That's impossible.  James Potter was on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

He is isn gryfindoor. Who ever voted for sltherin or otherwise is wrong. In the first movie it showed the plaque that said James potter:seeker and it was a gryfindoor plaque for when they had won the quidditch cup.

They changed it because the people who had never read the books wouldn't know what a Chaser was and instead of going to the trouble of explaing they just said he was a Seeker (which people already knew about). Hope that helps (and that someone didn't say it already... ::) ).
