(In Diagon Alley)
Dan walked into Flourish & Blotts early in the morning, ready to find another great story to immerse himself in. He was staying near Hogwarts for the summer, not ready to go home and meet his mother's new boy friend. He had barely accepted his father's death, and his mother had already moved on. He also felt like there was something here, something that drew him to the school. Like a magnet drawn to metal. He couldn't control it, there was just a natural pull.
On this day he wore a simple red t-shirt, jeans, and and green converse. He was comfortable in these clothes, just as he was comfortable around the books. He wandered among the books, looking for something to spark his interest. He brushed his bangs out of his eyes, and decided to climb the stairs to the upper floor of the shop. Books on plants, animals, spells, charms, potions... Nothing caught his interest. He just needed a distraction. Something to preoccupy his time. Dan depended on books. They had been his best friend for a while. Ever since he was young he had a hard time making friends. As a young child he had a stutter, and was no good at sports. Other kids shied away from him.
He was fairly alone in the store, and was still searching for a good book.
