Title: Lonely Loves Company too...
Post by: Crazy_About_You on April 25, 2011, 04:26:57 AM
((Open))

Zepha scuffed her feet on the ground, stirring dust, as she walked down the stone path that wound through Hogsmead. She had on a dark pair of old jeans, a navy blue shirt over a white cami, and white keds. Her gold braclet was clinking on her ankle and her tan messenger bag was slung over her left shoulder. Her short blonde hair hung in wavy chunks around her pale face, her bangs just barely hanging over her radiant green eyes. She wasn't exactly out to impress anyone and didn't care how she looked.

It was spring break, her last spring break. She couldn't afford to go home and didn't nessacarily want to, so she and a few other unlucky students were stuck strolling around the baisically empty campus. It was her seventh year, and she was seventeen, yet  she was still spending the break by herself.  She didn't mind though, it gave her plenty of time to study and think.

However on the third day of break she couldn't study for much more. Her eyes were sore from reading page after page, and the silence  was killing her.  She needed to get out and have some sort of human interaction; which is what lead her to this dusty path in Hogsmead. She walked along the street, smelling the smells and hearing the sounds of that were typical of Hogsmead. She wandered down the street, glancing into the shops and searching for a for someone she knew.

After walking around for about a hour Zepha'd seen a lot of faces. Happy familes, couples coo-ing over eachother, teenagers on break hanging with their friends; just none were familiar. As groups of people shuffled around she started to feel suffocated, and decided to slip into the bar; the one place where you could be by yourself and nobody would notice, nor care.

As she pushed open  the heavy door and the pugent smell of alchol and ashes hit her. She stood at the entrance  did a quick scan of the crowd. There were a lot of people in there, just none that she knew. She frowned and snuck over to a small table in the corner, one that was hard to notice if you weren't observant. This had been the spot that she retreated to a many of times when she felt lonely. She ordered a drink and slid down into the cool seat, letting the atmosphere soak in and relax her. Maybe it was the sound of peoples voices or the soft music in the background that made her feel comfortable. She smiled a small, almost unoticable, grin and pulled out a book. Yes, this little "outing" was deffinitly what she needed.

Jackie pushed open the door to the bar lightly, letting the various scents of alcohol and people hit her. She wrinkled her nose slightly. Blood smelled good. Beer was tolerable. Mix the two and they gave her a throbbing headache. She slipped in and out of people, pushing back to her corner booth. Zepha was sitting there.

She smiled, genuinly happy to see someone she knew. It beat sitting alone, mulling over life, which was what she had planned on doing. Instead, she slid into the seat across from Zepha, waiting for her to look up from her book. "I see you found my favorite seat." She said, glancing around briefly. "Good place to come and just be, isn't it?"

Zepha jumped once she heard Jackies voice. She looked up and smiled, "Its one of my favorite spots too." She set the book down and straigtened herself a little bit.
"It is actually." she thought about her reasoning behind coming in and nodded. "A bar is a place where you can come and sit by yourself and nobody will even think twice."

She laughed a little, "Maybe its not the best enviorment for a student like myself, but its a good place where people don't judge you.". She sipped a drink of her water and looked back at Jackie, "So what brings you here?".

"I came here plenty of times when I was a student." Jackie replied thoughtfully. She twisted a lock of hair around one finger and looked at the table. Tracing her finger over a spot on the wood, a ghost of a smile lit lifted her mouth. Under her hand was a small heart engraved into the table with the initials J + N. Yeah, there were memories built into this bar.

She shrugged. "I guess I just come here when I get bored. I abhor the smell. The people annoy me. And the drinks aren't really my type. But, it's like a second home." She said simply. And truly, this bar was a home to her. In her mind, a home was where your family was, and at some point, all the friends she considered family would meet her here at one point or another.

Zepha noticed Jackies hand moving on the table and saw the little heart. She started grinning and asked "So Jackie, whos Mr. N?". She loved romance, not so much for herself but for others. She loved seeing other people happy, when their eyes lit up for that someone special.

She could tell by the look on Jackies face that she had serrious memories here, mostly good ones, and that even though the people and the smell bothered her she still kept coming here because there was some connection. She had places like that too, where she felt drawn to because of some memory or somebody who used to be there.

Jackie closed her mouth, looking through Zepha rather than at her. Her love life was something of a tragedy. No happy endings in sight, for her or the people involved. She shut her eyes tightly, hoping to repress the painful memories that crept to her mind. Images of her and Nate flooded her mind: playing and laughing by the lake, visiting medieval villages together, when he finally confessed his love for her.   Then, the pain assaulted her: Andrew and Onde, trying to steal her away, her leave of absence to protect everyone she loved, returning to find her boyfriend with her best friend. It was useless; they took over her mind now.

The smell of his hair, the feel of his skin, the taste of his lips; they overwhelmed her senses. It was almost like he was still there. Jackie wished desperately he was. Every day she woke up, a slight tugging in her chest representing the missing piece of her heart. If there was anything she had learned during her days as a student at Hogwarts, it was that a broken heart never really healed. The pain of it just faded until it was a manageable presence at the back of your mind.

She cleared her throat. "His name was Nate." She said softly, visibly cringing at the sound of his name.

Zepha looked into Jackie, she could see the hurt in her eyes. She was good at reading people and could tell their exspressions oh so easily, and right now Jackie was hurt. She didn't have a happy ending with Nate, and talking about it was hurting her.

Zepha softly placed her hand on top of Jackies and gave her the most honest, open hearted look she could, "Jackie, I'm sorry I didn't know. You don't have to talk about it.". She looked into her eyes and tried to send her a message of forgiveness, for bringing back the bad memory.

She leaned back in her chair, feeling the atmosphere now shifting from a happy one to a somewhat gloomy one.

Jackie shook her head to clear it some. "Sorry." She apologized.

"It's just that I had a rough break-up with him. Long story short, I left for a while, came back and he was with my best friend." She explained, the pain flashing through her eyes once more. Most of the others knew about her hard separation from Nate. They'd also seen enough to leave her alone about it. It just wasn't something she talked about openly, or in much detail.

Jackie looked up at Zepha. "You have nothing to be sorry for. You're new here, I don't expect you to know anything about it. You were just curious, that's all." She said, gently.

"Okay, sorry again though." Zepha said, struggling for the right words.  She noticed people turning around, some just glancing their way, some full on staring.

Typical wizards, she thought always snooping through thoughts She shot them a glare of her own and grabbed her bag. "Come on Jackie, lets go for a walk." she said, grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the bar onto the street.

Once outside she let go of Jackie's hand and started walking. "Sorry, I just can't stand the thought of people snooping through my thoughts." she said with a smile. "And besides all the drunks were coming in." she joked. She sucked in a breath of fresh air and sighed. She was amused by the thought that just minutes ago she was completeley comfortable in there and now felt totally awkward.

Jackie shrugged, glad Zepha had gotten them out of there. She hated the fact that some people thought nothing of looking into your private thoughts. She kept her innermost thoughts locked away from prying eyes, but a lot of them were floating around in her head open for many people to see. It was to much effort and concentration to put into daily life to keep blocks on everything.

"So, Zepha." Jackie started. "You ever have major boy problems? Or has your love life been a good old mush fest?"

"I guess I don't have any, I've pretty much been staying single. So is neither an option?" Zepha hadn't been one to latch onto people easily, it took her forever to trust a friend, let alone let some boy have her heart. Confrontations were something Zepha avoided. She just tried to stay on people's good side and stay happy.

"I'm not exactly the..." she trailed off, strugglin with the right way to put this to Jackie. "I don't trust easily, let alone put my heart on the line." she said with a shrug. It was true, she didn't want to have the opurtunity to get hurt again.
