The wind whispered softly through the trees, giving a voice to the otherwise silent woods. High above, the full moon shone brightly down on the forest, illuminating the patches of ground that remained uncovered by foliage. It was a serene night; calm and relaxing in the most basic of ways.

At least it was, until the silence was broken by a sharp intake of breath followed by nearly indictable tears hitting crisp leaves. A small girl was sitting in a miniature clearing of the forest, wrapped in an oversized sweatshirt. Her blond hair swathed her face and highlighted her blue eyes, now shining with tears. She was curled in on herself, lost in a bought of misery she found herself spiraling into once every fifty years or so. Usually she had friends or family to help bring her out of this state, but here? She had no one really. Everyone she once cherished had left, moved on with their lives to do bigger and better things, while she was stuck here, unable to leave because of some sentimental reasons. That and the issue that she had nowhere else to go.

Jackie hugged her knees to herself, praying no one would show up and see her like this. Yet also praying someone would find a way to help her out of this state of near depression. She was good at repressing emotions, so much so that when she severed her relationship with Nate, she hardly cried. But they always came back. All of her emotions built up to a point where she couldn't control them anymore. They possessed her with a vengeance that she was helpless against.

She knew she must look weak and pathetic, wallowing in her misery here, but she had been strong for so long, she felt. She wanted someone else to have to do that for a while. But you have no one. She reminded herself, steeling her backbone.

Wiping at her eyes, she pressed her lips together, refusing to let another sob loose. Vampires could go without air indefinitely, but it was uncomfortable, especially when all she wanted to do was cry herself into unconsciousness. Jackie bit her lip. She bit it hard, so hard that it started to bleed. Her own blood tasted terrible, but she was too afraid that if she stopped, she would start to cry again and never stop.

What is wrong with you? She scolded herself. Snap out of it!

Jackie composed herself at the sound of movement around her. Her usually sharp senses were dulled at the moment and she felt oddly vulnerable. "Hello?" She called out shakily.

Living in the wild wasn't so bad. At first, it was difficult to get used to. Trying to find a shelter to be protected from the still bitter rain and harsh winds of early spring wasn't something Seth was used to. He had always had a home to go to. But he just couldn't go back to that place. Not after the divorce. No, Seth wasn't over Alice. But, each day he let go of the past a little more and began to move on. It was a process.

Tonight wasn't rainy. Tonight was actually really calm and warm. The moon, one of Seth's favorite things to watch at night, was out in full, casting a glow upon the forest floor. He wandered around, feeling restless. He couldn't bring himself to sleep yet. He just wasn't ready to.

He heard creatures roaming the forest, chasing each other, some doing their nightly hunting. But then he heard another sound. A human sound. It was a girl, calling out.

  "Hello?" Seth returned the call.

Jackie stiffened, recognition flashing through her at the deep, masculine voice, followed by relief. She knew that voice, but she didn't quite know who it belonged to. The haze of emotion in her mind still hadn't cleared. This person wouldn't hurt her, however, that much she could deduce from her faltering memories.

Forcing the rest of her tears to the back of her mind, Jackie wiped her face with her sleeve and stood. Her knees wobbled slightly, and she frowned at herself for being so weak right now. She was used to being physically superior to most anything she'd encountered so far. Why did she let her emotions get hold of her so tightly?

She could feel them slowly subsiding now. But they would come back soon. They weren't gone, rather the sudden need to find out who the voice belonged to taking its place.

It wasn't wise, creeping towards the voice with her senses dulled, but Jackie didn't trust her voice to be strong just yet. And she felt sure she recognized the voice. No one she knew would hurt her, right? She placed one foot in front of the other, hearing it reverberate in her ears much more loudly than she wanted. Suddenly, a flash of color to her right, made her turn just in time to see a deer coming crashing through the forest at her. She yelped shrily, diving out of the way at the last second.

This didn't make any sense. She was supposed to be the hunter. That was just a deer, and she typically ate deer every few days. She frowned again, brushing herself off, about to stand when she heard a noise behind her. Oh god... She had thrown herself right in front of another person. She turned slightly to see the face of said person.

Again that recognition hit her, but she still couldn't place it. Her memories were tangled with her emotions of sorrow and grief, unably to distinguish people yet. But she knew she knew this man. And when she said man, she meant it. He was big. Not huge, but definately taller than most. And that dark hair.. She studied the face of this person, trying desperately to place it.
