Harry Potter Books / JKRowling.com
July 7, 2007, 08:13:29 AM
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but what the hell, I'd mention it again.

Do you guys find browsing JKRowling.com very difficult? Like, having to dive through all the trash on her desk and whatnot? Don't you wish there was an easy way you could get at all that hidden information? Guess what, you can!

JKRowling.com has an official text-only version. It's not flashy at all (ie. It does not require Flash ;D), and has all the information there organised for you.

You can access the text-only version by going to her site and clicking the "Text-only" link somewhere at the bottom of the page, or if you want, you can follow this link: http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/en/

Other Books & Movies / 1934 Science Fiction
April 7, 2007, 11:54:28 AM
This is a really cool piece of Science Fiction written in 1934, called "Triplanetary". Get it on Project Gutenberg: Click Here

Excerpts from the book:
Quote"You never imagined such a thing as _white_ blood, either, but it all checks up. Someway, somehow, every particle--probably every atom--of free or combined iron in this whole volume of space was made off with."

QuoteThe horizontal, flat, fish body is not so bad, even supported as it is by four, short, powerful, scaly, flat-footed legs; and terminating as it does in the weird, four-vaned tail. The neck, even, is endurable, although it is long and flexible, heavily scaled, and is carried in whatever eye-wringing loops, knots, or angles the owner considers most convenient or ornamental at the time.

QuoteFor a moment the effect of the explosion seemed unimportant. A dull, low rumble was all that was to be heard of a concussion that jarred red Nevia to her very center; and all that could be seen was a slow heaving of the water. But that heaving did not cease. Slowly, _so_ slowly it seemed to the observers now high in the heavens, the waters rose up and parted; revealing a vast chasm blown deep into the ocean's rocky bed. Higher and higher the lazy, mountains of water reared; effortlessly to pick up, to smash, to grind into fragments, and finally to toss aside every building, every structure, every scrap of material substance pertaining to the whole Nevian city.

The Lake / The Beginning is The End
March 14, 2007, 06:44:28 PM
Well, the story goes like this: We're all sitting in a circle beside the lake, and we're playing this word game called "The Beginning is the End".

The reason why I'm starting this thread is because long time ago, I used to enjoy this game with some members whom we don't see very often anymore... Em, Ginny, Harry, Kiara, Fawkes, Lavender (Melanie), Pig... I want to relive the experience, as well as spread the fun of this to newer members... At the same time, old palz, if you people see this, please come back and join in.

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't heard of how this game is played, allow me to explain. This is a very simple word game, whereby every player will throw in any word based on the previous word. The new word must start with the last letter of the previous word. Here's an example:

First Post: Malfoy
Because the last letter is Y, the next post must start with Y
Next Post: Yarn
You know the rules now?
Third Post: Never
Forth Post: Remember

Ya know, something like that. If you've got any questions, just ask on this thread.

Alright, the first word: Canvas

«Harry Potter - Life After Hogwarts»

=Prologue=
This FanFic is set after Harry leaves Hogwarts. To fully understand this FanFic, you would need to have read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Also, if you do not own HP:HBP and are afraid of spoilers ;D, this FanFic isn't for you. :P

For those guys who were around about a year ago, you'd know that I wrote a FanFic along these lines too... But I pretty much blew that one, so here's another try. ;D

BTW, Pig, I really love Red Ruby, so don't mind me if I slipped a little bit of it into my story.

Note: I am trying to follow JK Rowling's style as much as possible, so don't blame me if you feel *very* confused at the beginning. :P ;D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
«Chapter I»
The Beginning of the Beginning
A huge eagle circled the sky as a tall, red-haired teenage boy cheered Harry on, who had his face screwed up in concentration. There was a loud crack, and a handsome lion was standing exactly where Harry was standing.
Ron gave a loud whoop as the eagle overhead swooped down and landed in front of the lion. There was another crack, and a teenage female with bushy hair erupted from the ground where the eagle was standing a moment ago. She too, was applauding Harry.
The scene faded away into blackness. For a moment, everything was black. Then, Harry felt his eyes open.
Harry Potter, 18, was sleeping on a couch in a darkened house. Loud snores, undoubtedly produced by the red-haired Ronald Weasley, filled the room. Even as Harry lay there, smiling slightly, he felt suddenly thirsty and sat up, looking around, before making his way to the kitchen.
This house was in fact a wrecked one, which explains why Harry, Ron and Hermione were all sleeping in the living room. The only two rooms in the house that were left intact were the hall and the kitchen. The rest of this house was destroyed... by Lord Voldemort.
Harry set down his glass of water a little harder than he intended to. In fact, Lord Voldemort lost his powers seventeen years ago under this very roof... The Potters' residence in Godric's Hollow.
Harry sat down on a chair as he thought about the dream he had earlier. It did really happen a few weeks ago, at the Ministry of Magic. Harry, Ron and Hermione were learning Animagi. Hermione could turn into an eagle, while Harry could turn into a lion. Ron, on the other hand, could turn into a bat.
The lights flared on suddenly and Harry found a wand pointing at his throat.
How is it?
Harry Potter Books / Another Mistake!
November 28, 2005, 12:46:37 PM
You need to meet the following criteria to understand the contents of this post:
1) You have read HP:PoA (Book)
2) You have watched HP:PoA (Movie)
3) You have read HP:HBP
As you remember in the third book (I'm talking about the book now, not the movie), you'd remember Hermione slapped Malfoy.
In the third movie (Movie and not book this time), Hermione punched Malfoy.
In HP:HBP, JK Rowling made a mistake by saying Hermione punched Malfoy, when in fact in her original script says slapped.
Just thought posting it here would be a laugh. ;D
Harry Potter Books / Aberforth - Hog's Head Barman?
August 20, 2005, 08:49:20 AM
We used to be guessing if Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, was the barman of the Hog's Head. We had ample evidence, but Book 6 seemed to have confirmed it.
Our old evidence were:
1) The barman was tall and thin
2) Hog's head had smelt of goats
I think I missed out something ;D
Our new evidence (Book 6, slight spoiler alert):
1) Dumbledore said to Tom Riddle that he was "friendly with local barmen".
2) Barman of Hog's Head had attended the funeral. (If you're asking "Who's funeral?", please read Book 6 and you'll know)
What do you think? :P
Harry Potter Books / Face-To-Face with JK
August 6, 2005, 08:55:53 AM
JK Rowling had invited two people to have a little chat with her on the day the HBP was released. These two people were the founder of Mugglenet and the founder of The-Leaky-Cauldron. They had a two-hour interview, and I found three pages of questions and answers. Read them at: www.the-leaky-cauldron.org and click the interviews section at the top left. I have not read the mugglenet version.
Harry Potter Books / jkrowling.com
July 23, 2005, 08:32:51 AM
Remember good ol' jkrowling.com? Well, the desk featured on the site which was 'specially tidied for visitors' makes navigation kinda difficult. I found a way past it. The very first page you see when you enter the site has a link that says something like 'text-only version' or something. Click on that and you'll have a much-more-friendly page, along with spoilers we never knew! CHECK IT OUT!
*SPOILER ALERT!*
*IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK 6 PLEASE SHOO!*
Ok, Good. What do you think about Snape, eh? I always knew he was up to no good, but I never guessed Dumbledore would die in his hands!
Harry Potter Movies / The New Cho
July 14, 2005, 02:57:50 PM
The identity of the actress doing Cho Chang has apparently been shrouded in mystery. Well, I've looked up. She's called Katie Leung, and well, what can I say about her? She simply fits the description from the book.
Here're my favorite pics of her:
Harry Potter News and Rumours / New Rumor?
June 27, 2005, 03:03:14 PM
My friend told me he heard a rumor that Ginny and Harry would start going out with each other in Book 6! However, when I questioned my friend about the origins of the rumor, he seemed reluctant to tell and changed the topic. This made me think that maybe the rumor was just a dud, but I thought of just posting here to see if any one of you had actually heard of this rumor.
I know there'd been loads of rumors about its release date, but I found this one on the Official HP site: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be released on November 18, 2005
Harry Potter Books / TYPO ERROR!!!
June 23, 2005, 08:43:58 AM
Finally, after years of reading the Harry Potter books, this is the first time I've spotted a typo error made by JK Rowling, and it happens to be inside her very latest best-seller the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)!
The error is on Page 710, Line 2 Word 5. The word should be "heard", but it's "hear" on the page! Note, though: Her books are still great! ;D
Harry Potter Books / Countdown
May 30, 2005, 09:24:49 AM
The date to the release of Book 6 draws nearer, and countdowns get more common, so here is one. Right now as I speak, we are 46 days, 21 hours, 37 minutes and 15 seconds away from the release!
