Title: A Snowy Trail (Sky)
Post by: Virgil Hendrix on December 30, 2009, 01:30:24 PM
The sun glazed through the white crystals falling from the sky, as it beamed down onto Virgil's pale face looking into the distance.

"Heh, I don't even know why I bother coming back here.  Its not like I have a chance." he mumbled to himself as he kept walking towards the swarm of snow covered buildings.  He looked around at them all, and the sight of them brought back memories of school; not all of them great.  He walked into the Three Broomsticks and sat down at a booth next to the window.

"So if I mix these two vials, I should have the antidote?"

Sky nodded to the second year girl who sat across from her at The Three Broomsticks. The girl had short shoulder length brown hair and glasses. She had been struggling with potions and Sky had offered to tutor her. A large second year potions book lay open on the table, flipped to the page containing instructions on how to cure boils. Yum.

"But be careful. You have to mix it at just the right temperature or else you'll just end up with a nasty mess." Sky said, pointing a finger to the caution mark in the book. "I think you're all set for your exam Sarah." She smiled and closed the book. "We'll review next week after the holidays are over. Go enjoy the rest of your break." Sarah grinned as she gathered the book into her arms.

"Thanks Sky. You're the greatest." She said and left the building. No kid liked tutoring, let alone over winter break, but Sky could already see the progress. She sighed and laid back into her seat. She let her eyes glance over the place. From the bartender, to the few students who stayed behind for break, to Virgil, to the other guests...wait! Virgil?

Sky sat up abruptly and squinted. Sure enough, it was him. Wow. She hadn't seen him in a long time. She felt her cheeks redden. She remembered the awkward breakup and how upset she had been. Amazing how much more grownup she was since then. Should she go say something? Would he be bitter or would he be friendly? Was she really that nervous?

She stood up and slowly walked over to his table, trying to think of something to say. But her mind was blank. She was just so surprised to see him. Finally when she reached his table, Sky managed to speak.

"Um...hello Virgil."

((Loooonng post lol. Sorry I had to go all of a sudden last night but I thought somebody was up.))

"I don't even know what im even doing here.." Virgil mumbled to himself as he heard a familiar voice coming from across the room.

He glanced around, looking from left to right in the seemingly empty three broomsticks, as he saw Sky walking toward him.  His nerves shot through the roof, as more thoughts of being in school shot through his mind like a bullet train.

"What do I do? What do I say?" he thought to himself, as a "Hey Sky." slipped  out.  Virgil was curious to see what Sky had to say to him, and see if she was the same person he knew back then.

Sky looked down at her feet awkwardly.  "I..uh..haven't seen you in awhile." She said softly. "How are you doing?" She glanced back up at him and had to smile. He looked the same. Maybe his hair had gotten a little longer, but he was the same Virgil she knew. Or was he?

"C-Come on, sit down." he said with a mild nervous stutter as he gestured to the seat in front of him.  "I haven't been up to much, just traveling, and learning a few tricks here and there.  I didn't really expect to see you here, after the graduation and all, so what have you been doing?" he said nervously.

Sky felt bad. She could tell he was nervous. Maybe she just go. But something made her sit down.

"Oh, just working. I'm the potion master's assistant back at Hogwart's." She made the salt and pepper shakers dance with her wand. "So what kind of tricks?"

"Thats actually why I came down here again.  I was wondering if I could get a job here or something." said Virgil as he pulled out his wand.  He pointed it towards the salt and pepper shakers as they transformed into birds and walked around the table.

"I could put a good word in to the Headmaster if you'd like. Though I'm sure he wouldn't need it. You're a good guy." She watched as the birds walked around the table and saw an old lady at the next table cover her food, mumbling something about sanitation.

"I was just about to head back if you would like to join me." Sky suggested, pointing out the window.

Virgil cracked a small smile as he said "Yeah sure, lead the way.  He pointed his wand towards the salt and pepper shakers again, as they changed back to normal, not before returning to their rightful positions.

Sky had risen and had gone outside. She had on a long black coat and dragonhide boots, so she was actually pretty warm in this cold weather. She led him to the snowy trail that went to the school.

"So what kind of job are you looking for?"

Virgil followed quickly behind Sky.  The snow parted around Virgil, as it seemed he was in a bubble of some sort.  "Charms I guess.  That subject has always seemed intriguing." Virgil said.

Sky stuffed her hands into her pockets, thinking.

"You know what? I think they're looking for a teacher. The one at the school is kinda sickly and didn't want to quit until he found a replacement." She turned, walking backwards to look at him.

"That'd be really neat if you got the job. Then we'd both be teachers. Well, I'll be one next year anyway."

Virgil looked into the white clouds before refocusing on Sky.

"Heh, really?  Well that works out perfect for me then." Virgil said with a grin.  He looked into the distance as the castle grew closer and closer.

"Yeah. It'd be cool to have you as a co-worker." Sky said, looking up to the clouds as well. The sky was actually quite blue, with a few gray clouds here and there.  They were getting close to the Hogwart's gate now.

"Yeah, the last time I saw you," Virgil said before stopping.  "Yeah, so how have you been?  You look the same too." he said looking away slightly.

"I've been pretty good actually. A little over worked, but I guess that's what happens when you get older, huh?" She said as she waved her wand over the gate's lock, the large metal gate swinging open once it clicked.

"After you."

"Yeah, your right." he said walking up to the tall metal gate covered in frost and ice.  "No, after you." he said as he gestured her to the gate with a smile.

Sky grinned and walked on through, waiting for him to enter before locking the gate. As they started up the grounds, Sky stopped abruptly, grabbing his wrist to stop him.

"Listen..I'm sorry for just...ending it like that. There was so much going on and I just...didn't know what I wanted." Sky looked at the ground, staring at her boots. "I just had to get that out."

"I don't know what I should say..." Virgil thought to himself.  "What do I say?" he kept thinking to himself.

He pulled her head up, and brushed the hair from her face before saying "It wasn't your fault.  I was immature then, so stop beating yourself up for it."

Sky felt her skin tingle at his touch, her cheeks warming despite the bitter cold.

No. She thought.

"I was immature too." She said softly. "I was a troubled kid who had her life screwed up for awhile."

There was no denying that Virgil still had feelings for Sky.  His life was never the same since he had left.  He slowly moved his head closer to hers and watched for her response.

Sky felt herself move closer, almost as if gravity had pulled her into the position. She could smell his sweet breath and found herself remembering the good times she shared with Virgil. She longed for his arms to be around her, for him to pull her close and protect her from the world. Before she could even think about what she was doing, she was so close to him, their noses were touching. It was amazing how familiar, almost natural, this was to her.

Virgil was steadily moving closer and closer with no control of his own.  The wind seemed to curve around the two, as the temperature seemed to hit a steep incline.  Virgil had been missing this feeling for too long.  Soon enough, their lips pressed against each other, and a jolt of electricity shot through Virgil's whole body.

Sky couldn't even remember why they had broken up nor could she understand how. She could feel the electricity surging through her. A wonderful feeling. She felt her heart race as their lips parted and her hands move to his hair. But then an image flashed through her mind and she had pushed herself away from him.

What have I done? She found herself thinking.

"Virgil...I have a boyfriend." Sky managed to say, catching her breath that she had lost from the kiss.

The word boyfriend rung through his head like huge bells.  What had he done?  "W-What?" he said as feelings of shock and aww shot through his brain like a gun unloading on an unwary target.  "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..." Virgil said turning towards the building.

Sky shook her head, turning around and mentally slapping herself across the face.

"I shouldn't of done that. I'm so sorry. It was my fault." She felt her throat start to ache and started walking again.

"We should go see about getting you that job." She said, already several paces ahead.

Virgil quickly followed behind and headed up the large staircase.  "Best to not say anything now I guess." he thought to himself.

Sky opened the door and inhaled a deep breath, exhaling slowly.

Pull yourself together. She thought. It was only a kiss.

But if she kissed somebody like Bucky, which she hoped would never ever happen, she wouldn't have the shaking of the knees, or the racing heartbeat(though it wasn't doing that anymore.).  She wouldn't feel like she was floating on air. The way Jason made her feel.

Oh Jason....

What would he think? Should she even tell him? Or just pretend that this never happened? Sky led Virgil to the Headmaster's statue, mumbled the password, and stepped aside. She'll try to forget for now.

"You can go on up." She said. "He should be in there. Just tell him you're interested and let me know how it goes." Sky sat down on the cold ground and relaxed against the wall.

Virgil looked up the large bronze winding staircase that seemed to go on for miles.

"I'll let you know when I get back." he said as he started his ascent up the large staircase.  Halfway up he stopped dead in his tracks and fell back against the wall of the staircase.

Thoughts of what to do rushed through his head.  He kept up until he reached the top of the staircase, and saw the headmaster sitting at his desk.  Virgil slowly approached the desk.  "Hello sir." he said as the headmaster looked up and the began talking.

Afterward Virgil swooped quickly down the stairs with a wide grin on his face.  "I got it!" he shouted enthusiastically when he arrived downstairs.

Sky heard Virgil approaching and turned to see a broad grin etched on his face. He had gotten the job. She found herself up off of the ground and embracing him.

"That's great!" She exclaimed, but then quickly released him and took a tiny step back. "Er...so when do you start?" She asked.

Virgil backed up a step too before saying "Uh.. I start next semester, which isn't that far away."  He looked out the nearby windows as some of the clouds were dissipating and the sun started to peek through.

"Looks like today is gonna be a good day." he said.

"Oh wow. That's pretty convenient." She said, walking over to the windows. She pressed her hand against the smooth, frosted glass and frowned.

A good day for him.

Virgil turned back around to Sky and said "You want to go somewhere and celebrate?" as he could tell she was still sad and needed a bit of cheering up.

"Anywhere you want to go, the choice is yours." he said.

Sky smiled and pulled her hand away before turning to face him.

"Sure. But you pick. You're the cause for celebrating." She ran her hand through her hair to make sure it didn't look to messed up from the wind.

"Um.." Virgil said as he tried to think of places to go.  It had been a long time since he was here and his memory of the places slightly blurry.

"I don't really remember all of the places here." he said looking out of the window again.

"Well there's a lot of places back in Hogsmead." She said, glancing back out the window in that direction. "There's the tea shoppe, Three Broomsticks, Hog's Head, Honeydukes. Yeah, let's go there. I can get you something sweet."

"Ok, lets go then." Virgil said as the snow started to fall again.  If you looked out the window, you could actually see a few of the frost covered roofs into the distance, even though it seems like a long walk.  "Something sweet sounds good right now." he said.

"I could go for some of Honeyduke's white chocolate cocoa." Sky said dreamily. She licked her lips absently and walked along beside Virgil, keeping a good distance so as not to bump or touch him in any way.

"That sounds good right about now." he said as he turned around to look at Sky to see she was trailing pretty far behind him, probably for the best.

"Especially with this cold weather." he said with a mild shiver.

She nodded.

"Yeah. I can't stand the cold, yet I'm always out in it for work and fun." Sky smiled. "Two words that never be put in a sentence together. Work and Fun."

Her boots made crunching noises in the snow as she walked, the sound kinda loud with the silence of the winter.

The wind picked up and brushed all across Virgil's face, pushing his hear every way possible.  "Heh, yeah.  Hey it looks like we're almost there, lets hurry up, this wind is killing me." he said as his pace quickened towards the building most likely housing central heating.

Sky sped up to Virgil's pace and followed him to the building, walking inside to feel a gust of warm air upon her red, cold cheeks. She sighed happily as she breathed in the sweet scent that filled Honeyduke's.

"Pick anything you want, alright? And I mean anything."

As soon as Virgil entered through the door, the sweet smell of all different types of candies, cakes and pies rushed through his nostrils.  A grin grew on his face as he sat at a nearby table.

"I haven't been in here in forever.  I almost forgot how amazing it smells in here." said Virgil.

"Yeah.  It's just great." he said as a waitress walked over to the table to take both of their orders.

"Um.. I'll have the.. hot fudge sunday I guess." he said as she scribbled something down on the pad in her hand.  "What about you?" he said looking at Sky.

Sky didn't have to think twice. She had her heart set on the cocoa.

"The white chocolate cocoa please, no sprinkles." Sky gave the waitress a polite smile as she added that to her order pad.

"It'll be out in just a moment." She said before trotting off to a couple in the corner.

The waitress quickly brought both orders to the table, then rushed off to give all of the other orders to their rightful recipients.  "That was fast." Virgil said as he looked down.  It was one of the best looking sundays he had ever seen.  He quickly picked up a spoon and started on it.

"Yeah it seems great.  Now I get to share what I know with all of the younger generations." he said with a grin as he pushed the empty dish infront of him to the side.

"So how is being a teacher?  Got any tips for me?" he asked curiously.

Sky smiled, tiliting her head a little to the side.

"It's really great, though sometimes I wonder if it's the job for me. I'm thinking about doing it for a couple years then going into something else." She paused to sip her cocoa. "Tips? Well...don't let them step all over you. Show them you mean business, but be cool. Be their friend."

Virgil shifted his arms onto the table as he said "Interesting.  I think teaching should be pretty cool, I mean helping other people learn things all wizards and witches should know."
