Aidan set down his shot glass, "Pour me another..." he said to the woman behind the counter.
"I think you've had enough, man." She said.
"The room's not spinning yet." He said matter-of-factly. "Pour me another."
"Look..."
"Just pour me another drink, d**n*t!" The woman looked at him for a long time and then poured him another one. She turned away to help someone else.
Aidan drank his drink just as quickly as the others, He became acutely aware of the people around him, watching him very closely. Ten minutes past and in the time he had ten more drinks.
"Can, I call someone for you?" The woman finally asked.
Aidan reached down into his pocket to pull out his phone. Before he could start pushing any buttons the phone slipped out of his hand and hit the floor. He watched as someone bent over and picked it up for him.
Ginny closed her fingers around the phone and stood up, raising an eyebrow at Aiden. She recognized him almost instantly, and instead of just handing him the phone, she sat it on the counter in front of him.
She could smell the liqueur and she made a face.
Was that what she had smelled like all those nights ago?
"Aiden." She said, sitting down next to him. She raised an eyebrow, "Enjoy making a scene?"
"Scene? What scene. I'm just a guy having a drink or to." He pushed his glass a little over to the woman behind the counter, "Another one...and make sure it's strong this time."
He looked at Ginny again for a long time, making sure all the words he wanted to say came out right, "Why are you here? Don't you have something better to do with your time then bother me? Like go check up on a studnet or two" He reached out and grabbed his phone
"Why I'm here is none of your business." Ginny shrugged, "But if you must know, I'm buying some champagne to celebrate with my husband."
She held up the brown paper bag that signified alcohol, and stepped around, coming into his view easier. The angle of the counter a moment ago had hidden the fact that she was pregnant.
"Who are you trying to call? Chances are your phone won't reach anyone near the school."
She had the feeling he was going to call Lavy.
"Well I was going to call, Lavy, but I'm not so sure anymore. She hates it when people get drunk. Says people lose control of themselves. I at lease know I drunk, but she still wouldn't like it," He paused, "No. I don't want her to see me like this."
Aidan looked down at Ginny's belly, "Is champagne really a safe bet? Seems more like you need some apple juice or something." He chuckled to himself, "Or grape juice. Alcohol is not your friend at this point."
Ginny scoffed, "I'm willing to bet that a single glass isn't going to hurt the unborn."
She smiled at him, her eyes twinkling with the slight humor, "Besides. I hate juice."
The red head shrugged her shoulders again, then et her smile fade. She tilted her head slightly, "Where are you staying? I'll walk you there."
He laughed, this time much louder, "Currently? The Tattered Cover. 'S a few blocks from here," Aidan stopped and shook his head. The vodka was starting to kick in now. His words were slurring,
"But she's waiting for me there so I can't go back. She'll see me like this." He motioned to his whole body, "Besides I doubt I'll be able to walk anywhere. The room is starting to lean to the left a little."
"Fine." She shrugged her shoulders. He wasn't one of her students, and the only reason she was even vuagly interested in what happened to him was because of Lavy.
"Just don't drink anymore. If you sober up some, she won't even notice."
"She's got the nose of a hound dog...enough about Lavy for a moment. She didn't tell me you were expecting. But she must know. How far along are you?"
He turned his whole body towards her now. He was planning on keeping her here as long as humanly possible. The rational part of his brain was telling him that he needed to stop drinking or he would end of something he would regret. Having Ginny there, talking to him and distracting him would help.
Ginny shrugged, "It's not really her news to share."
She had no clue if Lavy had heard.
She hadn't personally told her yet.
Hadn't seen her.
She paused, playing with the top of her bag, "About four months now. It's a lot easier this time around."
Not simply because she'd been pregnant before. But the circumstances surrounding it were simply easier to deal with.
"I can imagine. I don't know much, but what I do know was that it's not easy. I really do hope this one in much safer for you. And consider letting me take care of your kids anytime......maybe we should have this conversation later. When you know me better and I'm not so drink that I can't even stand. You'll probably be more inclined to believe me then."
He paused, "Are you here with anyone?"
Ginny laughed softly, "Someday." She agreed, shaking her head with amusement.
When he asked if anyone was with her, she shook her head again.
"No. Cody is at my parents, and I think Xaver is at home. Last I saw him, he was sleeping."
She smiled with remembrance. When Xaver slept, his true self showed on his face. His kind, relaxed, loving self. The part of him that she loved undyingly.
That harshness only appeared during his waking hours.
She shrugged, "It's rare I'm off somewhere on my own."
"I can see why. If you were my wife I would want to keep you close to, besides--" Aidan cut himself off. He was horrified he had just said that,
"Hold on...that came out so wrong, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I just meant that you're an attractive woman and any man..." He stopped himself again, "I'm sorry, I think am going to stop talking now."
Ginny laughed, "I know what you meant. Don't worry about it." She smiled, laughing lowly.
"If your half the person that Lavy has described to me then your husband is a lucky man..." He sighed with relief that that had at least come out the way it was suppose to sound....
Lavy sat in Aidan's room, pacing back and forth. She was starting to get a little worried. OK a lot worried, Aidan was the kind of person who was a bit anal about being on time. And an hour and a half had past since they were suppose to meet each other. She took another nervous glance at the clock. She would give him five more minutes and then she would go out looking for him.
Ginny smiled, "That what a few people keep saying, but I don't particularly believe them." She shook her head again, still smiling.
She looked up at the clock, thinking.
It was getting late.
"C'mon, Aiden. I'll walk you back to your place. Lavy'll forgive you." She smirked, "After all, she's done the same thing a few times herself."
"I know. And that's why she hates it....." He looked around the room. It was almost empty now and the rest of the costumers were leaving as well.
"I guess I'll have to face the music eventually. I'm just wondering if I want to be completely smashed when I do it or if it would be better to be just drunk. Smashed I won't be able to remember anything. I won't have to remember the look on her face when she sees me..." He continued talking, more to himself then to Ginny.
"Let's go. I doubt they are even willing to give you much more to drink." Ginny nodded towards the door, gripping her package tightly. Involuntarily, she shivered, feeling chilly.
Why was it that both of the times she was pregnant, it was winter?
She hated the cold, and she only felt colder now.
Aidan looked at Ginny and saw her shiver. He automatically pulled his heavy coat off the back of his bar stool and put it over her shoulders. If life hadn't taught him anything else, it taught him to respect woman. One because...well because they were woman. And two was because he had seen angry woman before and it wasn't the most pleasent thing to come across...
"You're probably right." Aidan looked over to the bar tender who was still eyeing him, "I might as well rip the band-aid off quick."
Ginny started with surprise when he put his coat on her shoulders. She raised an eyebrow at him, "Thanks."
It wasn't that she wasn't used to a guy doing that kind of thing for her. Xaver was always doing things like that.
She just wasn't used to some guy she hardly knew offering his coat.
"Get it over with." She agreed with him, nodding her head.
He sighed and stood up slowly, making sure he would fall over. He didn't, "Ummm....can I ask for a favor? And feel free to turn me down, alright? I just really don't want to do this alone. She can't kill me if there's a witness."
Ginny nodded again, "Sure." Suddenly she was beside him, wrapping and arm around his waist to help him stand steady.
"Lavy adores me!" She claimed, although it was a slight stretch of the truth. She chuckled, "I'm probably the best protection you'll have."
"She does. Whenever she talks about you it's like your the most amazing thing on the face of the world. She respects you so much. She listens to you."
Aidan double checked he was stable on his feet, before he started forward and out the door, leaning on Ginny slightly every so often when his vision would tilt to one side. It was cold outside but not so cold that the walk to his room was extremely uncomfortable.
Ginny laughed softly, "Respects me, yes. I know that."
Her voice dropped off as they walked, "But she doesn't listen to me as well as you think."
Ginny couldn't help but see Lavy as a sort of little sister. She'd helped the girl develop her powers. SHe'd taught her a lot.
Aidan shrugged and they continued in silence. They walked into the cozy warm lounge of the loge he was staying at and Aidan pulled his coat off Ginny's shoulder and tosses it onto a coat hanger. He stopped at the bottom of the steps.
"Oh, crap. Steps are not good for someone was drunk as I am."
Ginny sighed, "Don't worry about it. I may be pregnant, but I'm stronger than you think." She kept and arm around his waist, "Just hold onto the handrail while we go up, kay?"
She gave him an encouraging smile.
Aidan took another nervous look at the stairs and then back at Ginny. He tried to smile but it came out a grimace. He firmly planted his foot on the first step. He reached out for the railing a grasped it. He forced his body to the next step.
Ginny helped him up the stairs, aware of how much the small amount of physical exertion was wearing her out. She'd have to sit down for a bit after she was done with this.
"So, what are you going to say to her?"
"Nothing. What can I say? I'm know I'm allowed to do whatever I want really it's just...I hate seeing her hurt. The look on her face when she found out about Neo was enough for me. I know she hates it when people get drunk and I guess that's kinda a reason why I did it. She kind of hurt me. She doesn't really know. So, me, being stupid, decide that getting drunk would stick it to her," He scoffed at his own realization in the truth of his words.
Ginny stopped, staring at him with a strange expression.
"It doesn't work you know."
She blinked, then continued upwards, "Sticking it to them. It only hurts them...and if you truly care, you don't want to do that."
She seemed to be remembering something now. Something from long ago.
"Tell me about it. Tomorrow When my head is completly cleared I know I'm going to hate myself a little for doing this. I just hope she'll understand and forgive me later. The made it up the last step and Aidan pointed down the hall to his room, "That's were my fate is."
He took a long breath, "You're staying, right?"
"Long enough to assure there isn't a murder tonight." Ginny said, smirking softly. She nodded in the direction of his room and led him down the hall.
She pushed open the door and called out, "Honnnnnneyyyy! We're hoooome!"
Nothing like a bit of old fashioned humor.
Lavy looked over from the window to the door when it opened. She looked stressed until she saw who it was and once she did her worried expression turned to a weak smile, "Where have you been, love?" She asked, "I thought something had happened to you. You're always on time."
"I....I got held up." Aidan said slowly making sure none of his words were slurred.
"Oh, Ginny..." Lavy said, still smiling, "What are you doing here?"
(BUMP!!!!!!!!!!)
"Oh I was just taking him home" She pointed at Adien."Wait?" Said Lavy "Is that beer I smell?" "Of corse not dear!" Said Adien tring not to sound guilty." It IS beer I smell!!!" Adien knew what was coming now. He knew if Lavy found out he would have to find out how to convince her not."Of course its not!"Cried Ginny all of usudden.Adien gapped at her,Lavy gave her a death stare. Then Lavy said "Fine okay."Ginny was relived.Adien's head was burnig.WHAT IS HAPPINING? He thought."AHHHRRRGGGG!!!!!!"Harry ran in. "What is happining!?" He yelled. Then Ginny burst out"He's Drunk!""I knew it!"Shreked Lavy, unnecissarily."I'm sorry."Said Ginny crying.
