Curtis sat in the hallway, his back against the wall, his arms folded.
His hair was in his eyes, and he seemed to be almost asleep. He was actually watching every girl who walked past. He needed something to help keep his mind occupied. He had been avoiding Sarah for weeks now. As each girl walked past, he mentaly checked off why he didn't get up and woo her.
Too skinny...
Too tall....
Too short...
Too smart...
Too dumb...
"What are you doing?" Ginny asked him. She had been walking to her office and had turned to cornor to see him sitting against the wall. She was slightly confused at his thought pattern, something about the people walking in front of him.
Curtis practically had a heart attack when Ginny spoke to him. What he was doing wasn't exactly against any rules, but he had no clue if Ginny was one of those morally correct people. And he didn't know if she'd be offened by what he was doing. He looked her up and down, considering trying to get close to her. She was very pretty, after all.
"I'm not doing anything..."He told her.
Sarah was walking around the corner and bumped into Curtis not knowing it was him.
"Oh I'm so sorry." Sarah was know picking her things up. She then looked up and saw his eyes.
"Well I better get going." Sarah wanted to go cry she knew that he was avoiding her.
Ginny raised an eyebrow at him, hearing snatches of his thoughts.
"Yes, and I suppose you weren't looking at me like I was a regular student just now?" She questioned, not angry, just semi amused. And slightly confused to his way of thinking. He made no secret in his thoughts.
She looked at Sarah, who had just bummped into Curtis and smiled at her student.
"Sarah, wait, I graded your test."
Curtis didn't say anything to either girl. He couldn't look at Sarah, and Ginny had just hit the nail on the head. He couldn't outsmart the pretty red head, and besides, Sarah was right there. He had to force himself not to smile at her. He knew the only way they'd be able to stay away was if he was mean to her.
"Oh thanks Ginny." Sarah siad as she went back to grab it.
"Talk to you later during training." Sarah was now tearing up and trying to get them from falling. Sarah then went to turn around again.
Ginny nodded, "Alright. Tonight after dinner. Meet me in the Great Hall." She told her, nodding so that Sarah, who was obviously upset could make a clean get away.
Curtis looked at Ginny, clearing his throat, "Um. What's training?" He asked, intrested in it. If Sarah did it, he could at least try to get in the class. As much as he avoided her, he still had some strange need to be near her.
"Sure in great hall after dinner." Sarah was know starting to go around the same corner that she frist around. Then she sat down to cry.
Curtis's back stiffened as he heard Sarah start to cry. He closed his eyes and swallowed hard to kep himself from running to her. He opened his eyes and looked at Ginny, waiting for her to answer.
Ginny grew concerned and looked to Curtis. "You want to come? Fine, but you better put your best foot forward or your out of there. Excuse me." She pushed past him and went to where Sarah was.
"What's wrong, kiddo?" She asked, kindly.
"Ginny I like him so much." Sarah was now whipping her face.
"But for some reason he keeps avoiding me. What did I do wrong." Sarah was now looking at her friend not teacher.
Ginny sat down beside Sarah, pulling out a tissue and handing it to her.
"I don't know, hun. The mysteries of the heart are unknown even to me."
"I know that but why is it know all of a sudden he wants to be near me. I mean why would he ask to go to the training. He knows I will be there." Sarah siad as she used the tissue to whip her face.
"Maybe he just wants to watch out for you?" Ginny suggested, shrugging. She had no clue why Curtis would want to go. His thoughts had been so mixed up at that point.
"okay i guess well I better get to the libary since that is where I was headed." Sarah siad as she stood up.
Ginny nodded, "Are you okay for now?" Swhe asked, standing back up and streaching her arms above her head.
"Ya I think so." Sarah then walked around that same corner for the third time and heading towards the libary.
Ginny nodded after her and rubbed her eyes.
((Time skip....))
Ginny waited in the Great Hall after dinner for her class. Tonight it was just Sarah and Curtis with a few others. She wasn't sure what she was going to do yet.
Sarah had ran up to her room to put her thing up and change into some shorts, and tank top.
"Well it is this or nothing." Sarah siad as she walked into the Great Hall.
Curtis wore dark colored sweatpants and a white t-shirt down to the great hall. He had asked another student what to wear, and this seemed good enough. He walked in and immedietly went to a wall to lean against.
Ginny, who was in shorts and a t-shirt herself waited for all the students to come in. She gave Sarah an encouraging smile when she saw her.
Sarah sat down on a seat.
"So Ginny who else we waiting for." Sarah looked at ginny she saw where Curtis was but she was not going to look. Sarah then smiled back.
"Just a few more students." She said, smiling slightly. Just as she said that, some students walked in and Ginny nodded at them. They were the last she was waiting for.
"Alright guys, pick a partner. Hand to hand combat against your partner." She told them all, watching.
Sarah stood in the back trying to find someone to pick that was not Curtis.
"Ginny you have anyone."
"I'll be her partner..." Curtis spoke up, just loud enough for Ginny and Sarah to hear him.
"Um...if it's okay with Sarah, sure..." Ginny said, glancing at Sarah to see how she took this. She wouln't force her top be his partner.
Sarah then went and grabbed his arm and pulled him away from everyone.
"Curtis what is going on. I mean you avoid me for a week and know you want to be my parter." Sarah siad as her eyes started to tear again.
"You need a partner. Ginny has to be free to walk around and correct students, doesn't she?" He asked, his voice dull. He looked at her, his eyes showing nothing.
"Are you going to be my partner or what?"
"Fine." Sarah siad as she looked at him.
"What we need to be praticing." Sarah had her wand ready. She wanted to churl up and cry though.
"Sarah, hand to hand. Put your wand down." Ginny called out, walking around the students and helping them take fighting poses. No one was to start until she said go.
"Sorry Ginny." Sarah siad as she lowered her wand. She wanted to fight him anyways so he knew what he did to her.
Curtis spred his feet, putting his fists up. He wouldn't really hit her, only block and immobilize her if needed. She looked ready to kill though.
Sarah really did not want to fight him. She was afraid to.
"Well know all we have to do it wait for Ginny to say go."
"Ok. Everyone ready? Good. Now fight!" Ginny ordered, stepping back and watching everyone silently. She wouldn't interfer in any fights unless the students got too carried away.
Sarah walked up to him but was barly hitting him. She could not hurt Curtis she really like him.
She then threw in a kick but it would not of hurt anyone.
Curtis grabbed her foot and forced it down.
"You can't tell me your not mad at me." He told her, taking a step back, "I know you are. I'm giving you this chance to take out your anger. Take the chance, Sarah."
"No. Angry is what get people killed." Sarah siad as she then flipped him and got back up.
"Besides it is not angry it is being scared. I mean I liked you a lot and you keep avoiding me." Sarah then goes to kick his chest.
"I'm graduating. Did you know that?" he asked, jum,ping back from her kick with a frown. She wasn't gving it her best, he could tell. "Then we won't have to worry about me avoiding you."
"I know. Curtis I am graduating too but I would love to have that guy that I loved maybe right there with me." She was know crying when she when to punch hom in the chest before a low kick.
He took the punch in the chest, and didn't expect her to kick his feet out. He landed on his back, surprised more than anything.
"You don't love me, Sarah. Don't say that." He asked, slowly standing back up.
"Fine I won't I'm out of here. I'm not going to use this anyways." Sarah knew how she felt and she was not going to let him see her cry.
Sarah then turned out and walked out the door and to the main area and started at the house points jars crying.
Cho from the shadows was watching everything. She ran after Sarah worried about her. "Sarah!" She shouted after her.
Ginny watched Sarah run ut and calmly walked over to Curtis. In a split second, she had him laying on his back, his shoulder alread bruising where she had kicked him.
"Next time you are ordered to fight, don't use it for your own reasons." She told him.
stalks the shadows of the great hall, unseen by the others, but he knew that Ginny could sense him. Even tho he had begun to gain control over the more wild side of him he still distanced himself from all but a couple of people. Ginny, Cho, Sarah, pretty much were the only ones that he felt safe, or relatively safe enough to be around. Right now he stalked and watched, practiced being utterly silent and stealthy, the more he wasn't seen the more lethal he could be when he finally hunted down Fenrir and his kin.
Sarah finallyto tired to stand collased on the floor crying.
"Why am I training. I won't have no one to fight about or care for me."
"not true" devon seems to meld out of the shadows near Sarah. "I fight for my friends, my family, those i care about. You are my friend, and i would die before i see one of my friends injured or worse......expelled........" he exclaimed refering to something someone once said that was funny.
Sarah smiled.
"Well I'm a big girl and I don't think you have to worried about me being expelled." Sarah siad as she smiled at him.
"It just so hard I mean I really like cutris."
"whos cutris?"
Cho finally found Sarah. "Sarah are you okay?"
"no I like curtis so much. But because of you telling me he is a werewolf he is scare he will hurt me. I mean he avoided me all week and I like him." Sarah siad looking at her friend.
Curtis slowly stood, looking Ginny in the eyes.
"Don't tell me what to do." He told her, angrily.
"thank you guys. I think I just want to be alone right now." Sarah siad as she got up and started to walk away from them to the libary.
Ginny's eyes flashed, and she raised an eyebrow, "Or what, Curtis?" She asked, her voice low and menacing. Suddenly she turned and rolled her eyes.
"Fix things with Sarah, you idiot."
"Don't tell me what to do, Ginny!" Curtis shouted, letting out his frustration.
Sarah was in the libary. She knew that she could be alone there and that there were places to hide and cry. Sarah sat the crying not wanting to drawl and the moment.
Ginny just walked away, "Class dissmissed." She told the other students, walking out of the Great Hall and going to Sarah. She needed to talk to her now.
She was going to try to help, by telling Sarah she understood almost what the girl was going through. She found Sarah in the library and sat beside her.
"Um, hey." Ginny said, a bit uncomfertable. She was going to tell Sarah something about herself if she'd let her.
"hi there. I really want to be alone if you don't mind." Sarah siad looking at Ginny.
"I need to talk to you." Ginny said, softly, "I don't care if you cry. I cry alot too." She said, truthfully.
"fine. only because unless I hear you out I know you won't leave." Sarah siad as she cryed more and looked at her friend. Ginny was not the teacher at the moment.
"Well, I don't exactly know anything about love...after all, I got married way too young...and then got divorced...and now I'm in a very strange relationship...." She paused, trying to say this right, "You know how often I see the guy I love?" She asked, suddenly.
"no. Wiat you were in a marriage." Sarah looked at Ginny this was all shocking news to her.
Ginny laughed, hallowly, "Yes. I'm also a Queen...part time now...because I divorced him...but still a Queen..."
"oh I see so why you telling me this." Sarah siad as she whiped some tears away.
"Well, there's this guy I fell in love with not long after my divorce. Actually, I started falling in lobvbe with him while I was in the middle of my divorce...anyway, "Ginny was struggling to tell Sarah her own problems, "I fell in love with him. I've been through so much with him...and then he dissappears. I get to see him maybe once every three months...do you know that tears me apart?"
Ginny's eyes were getting tearful, and she played with her hands, "And the worst of it is that he loves me. He tells me every time I see him. But I never see him. I never know if he's alive or dead...or if he's found someone new. It's harder than anything I've ever had to do...and I've had to do alot of hard things...."
"i see so your trying to tell me that curtis might not be the one." Sarah siad as she looked at her teacher. She would be fine with that but she felt like curtis liked her back.
"No...I'm saying he might be the one...and you might have to wait a long time to find that out." Ginny said, thankful that Sarah wasn't asking anymore questions about her past or Xaver.
"oh okay. Well if you don't mind can I be alone right now." Sarah siad. She did not want to make Ginny mad but that was all she wanted.
Ginny nodded and stood, "I just wanted you to know...love is going to make you cry more than a thousand tears more..." She told her softly, before walking away. She wasn't mad or upset with Sarah. But now she felt meloncholy.
*thanks Ginny* Sarah thought that she should go talk to Curtis but she was not sure where he was so she headed back to the great hall.
Curtis was still in the Great hall, laying on the floor, loking at the stars that the cieling showed.
"curtis." Sarah siad as she walked in. "you think we can talk."
"I suppose..." He said, not looking at her.
Sarah sit near him but not to close.
"I'm going to back off okay. I mean why should I love some one. In about 5 months we my never see each other again." Sarah hated to do this but she had to. She was now crying.
"So I wanted to tell you. If you don't love me that is fine. I won't worry about it. I hope we can be friends though." Sarah swollowed hard and looked away from him. *Why am I lieing to him.* Sarah asked herself.
*Oh ya because this is the only way I can get over him.*
Curtis nodded, but didn't say anything.
"Curtis talk to me. I'm sorry I ran out on you like that but I was scared. I mean I can't fight one of my own friends." Sarah was crying harder and was now in a ball.
"I do love you. But I have to keep you safe. I'll miss you, Sarah." He said.
"what do you mean keep me safe." Sarah siad as she looked at him.
"I mean if you love me why you wanting to run.
"Because I'm not a good person, Sarah. And I can't change. At least, not for a very long time." He said.
"okay fine. But if you ever need to talk I'm here okay." Sarah siad as she got up and went to a sit.
