no in the 1st yr they took boats and i think that him not knoing his mom and not caring about her at that time cause he prolly didnt understand what happend and in the fourth movie credic dies and harry kinda cared for him in a friend kinda way

J K Rowling probably thought it up while she wrote the 5th book. Harry may have actually looked away when Lily died, so that could be another reason. ;D

maybe its just because j.k. didn't feel like explaining all of that or didn't know she was going to put that in the 5th book while she was writing the other ones. just my opinion

now I think of it, i think i remember something about harry not taking the "normal" way to school for some years.. the 2nd year he was with Ron in there car, flying.... cant remember how he got to the school in the 3rd year and most of the other years?.. hm... maybe he hasn't had a chance to see the thestrals before?... just a thought..

In his 3rd year, Harry took the train, I forgot his 4th year, and i think he took the train for his 5th and 6th years. ( In his 7th year, he didn't go to school)
