Loves Calling
Summery - Oliver Wood/OC - Set during CoS - Julia Gaines has always been there for Oliver Wood as a friend, ever since childhood, and he has always been there for her. But when one of them searches for more than friendship, can they overcome the odds against them?
A/N - This is my first Harry Potter fan fiction. I hope you all like it. I really love to write, and I've been writing for years, so don't think this is my very first thing I've ever written, it's just my first Harry Potter fan fiction. I've been reading a few, and I decided, Hey...I can do that too! So...here I am. Anyways, I'm going to try my best to make this one of the best things I've ever written, and I'm going to try and update as much as possible. Hopefully every few days. I know how hard it is to wait on updates when you really get into a story, so I'm going to try my best to update as much as I can. I'm going to try and stay a few chapters ahead of the updates in case something keeps me from writing so I can still update for you. I'm leaving for 5 days in about a week, so I want to be able to post an update right when I get back. Anyways, enough of my rambling. You came here for the story right? Some background info - This is set during CoS. Oliver is 16. I'm not entirely sure when his birthday is supposed to be, so I'll probably make up a date. My OC will be turning 16 shortly into the school year. Oh, and I'm not entirely sure if the dialog will be correct. I've been to England before, but I am definately no expert on how they talk, so please excuse mistakes. Well, here it is.
Chapter One
[/b]
The gentle wind coming through the open window blew the hair of a sleeping form across their forehead. From across the room, a slight creak was heard as a door slowly opened and someone quietly walked through. Julia Gaines grinned broadly as she watched him sleep for a few moments. She walked cautiously across the room, careful to make as little noise as possible. When she reached the bed she paused for a moment, as if trying to decide on what she should do. Her grin became evil and she jumped on the bed with a shout.
"Wake up Oliver!"
Oliver Wood had never woken up so quickly in his entire life.
"Julia Marie Gaines don't you ever do that to me again!" Oliver shouted, trying his best to sound angry at his best friend. Her grin washed away his anger the second he saw it.
"Is that the way to treat someone who was nice enough to wake you up so you wouldn't be late?"
"Huh? What are you talking about?" he asked, obviously confused. Julia just sighed.
"Hmm, let me think. I'm sure something important was happening today at eleven o'clock, and, if i remember correctly, it had something to do with a train," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Oliver's eyes widened when he realized exactly what she was talking about. He scrambled out of bed and started running around his bedroom, throwing last minute things into his trunk and checking every few seconds to make sure he had his broom and Quidditch plays. In a few minutes head everything he needed stacked at the door.
"Okay, I'm ready to go."
Julia giggled and Oliver narrowed his eyes at her.
"What's so funny?"
She stopped laughing only long enough to answer. "I do believe you've forgotten something important," she stated while trying to keep her laughter under control.
Oliver looked down and saw, to his embarrassment, that he was still in his pajamas. He looked at Julia and grinnned. "It would probably help if I changed huh?"
Julia only nodded as she left Oliver's room to give him privacy. She was still laughing.

An hour later, Oliver stood in front of his parents, listening to the same thing they told him every year. He glanced a few feet away to Julia, who, like him, was also getting a six year old lecture. She only looked halfway interested in what her parents were saying and when she saw him looking at her, she grinned and then rolled her eyes.
"Oliver, are you listening?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah. Go on."
His parents exchanged a knowing look and his mother sniffed.
"Oh, mum, don't cry. I'll be back before you know it."
She sighed and nodded before giving him a final hug. The train whistle blew and Oliver took a step back. His father embrassed him shortly and then patted him on the back.
"Have a great year son."
"I will. See you at Christmas!" he called as he ran on the train.
His parents gave him one last wave before he disappeared within. His mother gave another small sigh before the couple turned and walked back through the barrier at Platform nine and three-quarters.

[/b]
Oliver quickly walked towards the back of the train, the only place he knew would have empty cars. While he went back, he kept an eye out for Harry Potter. He had to talk to him about new plays. He didn't see him right off the bat, so he decided he'd look for him later. He found and empty compartment and slumped down in a seat.
Down the train, he could hear a game of Exploding Snap! going on. He sighed and sat up, reaching for his quidditch plays for that year. They were more diffficult then the year before, but he knew his team could do it. The Gryffindor quidditch team was by far the best in the school. They had lost the Cup last year only because of an unfortunate incident that had put their Seeker in the hospital wing throughout the entire last game. Olver sighed again at the thought of that and started to go over plays, making sure there wasn't a single flaw.
The door opened and Oliver quickly hid his plays. Two incredably shy looking girls entered the compartment and instantly started to giggle. Oliver hated the giggles.
"Um...er...hi...Oliver," one girl said shyly.
Oliver smiled at them politely. "Hi." He didn't recognize these girls.
"I was...um...just wondering...um...if I could...um...can I have your autograph?"
The other girl started to giggle again and Oliver inwardly grimaced. Oh, the giggles.
"Um, sure."
He was completely flabbergasted. No had ever acted like that towards him before. The girl instantly shoved a piece of paper into his hand. He grabbed his quill and signed his name quickly. He smiled at her again as he handed it back.
"Er...thank you."
He only nodded his head. He was still too shocked to say much of anything else. The girls left quickly, and the second they left the compartment they were in a fit of giggles. The sound of the girls had been gone only a few minutes when Oliver heard the sound of the door opening again. He almost groaned, but caught himself before he looked up.
He smiled when he saw Julia standing in front of him. His smile left when he saw the look on her face.
"Oh, Oliver! Can I have your autograph? You're such a hunk!"
Julia fanned her face and started to giggle uncontrollably. Oliver did groan this time. His cheeks turned a slight color of red as he glared at her.
"Kill it Julia. That's not cool."
"Well, I sure think it is. Got a fan club going Oliver? Can I join?" She grinned at him and sat down.
Oliver rolled his eyes and took his quidditch plays back out. He trusted her not to tell anyone. They sat in silence for a while. Oliver was picturing his plays in his head and Julia was watching him. He almost forgot she was sitting there until she made a small chuckle. He lost his concentration and glared at her.
"What?"
"Did you ever consider for one minute that there's things to life other than quidditch?"
He looked like he thought for a moment before he answered. "Not really, no."
He grinned at her and she just laughed. "You're too much Oliver. I'm going to go talk to Angelina and Katie. I'm sure they're not talking or even thinking about quidditch."
Oliver rolled his eyes and waved his hand at the door. "Go then."
Julia stood and looked at him for a moment. "You aren't going to spend all of your time on quidditch this year are you? There are other things to do you know."
"Of course I'm not. Quidditch isn't my entire life you know."
Julia gave him a knowing look. "Whatever you say, Oliver. Whatever you say."
Oliver stared at her while she walked out of the compartment and down the hall. "What was that about?"

That's only part of the chapter. The entire chapter is too big to put in one post, so I have to break it up into smaller posts. The other posts are right after this one, so just go to the next post and the story will continue from there. :)

Ok, here's Part Two

Oliver gave a contented sigh as he sat down at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall. He had definately missed this place. He looked down the table, hoping he could spot Harry. He never got to talk to him on the train. He looked at the tops of fiery red hair, sure that he'd see Harry next to one of them, but was suprised when he didn't. Both Harry and Ron weren't there.
Oliver got the attention of the Weasley twins and waved them over.
"Where's your brother? And Harry?"
The twins looked at eachother before they shrugged. "Search me," said George. "We haven't seen them since we were at the train station in London."
They didn't seem to be too worried about it, but then again, the twins were rarely worried about anything. Oliver just shrugged and watched as Professor McGonagall led a group of first years through the Great Hall. He sighed when he saw another head of fiery red hair. "Great, another Weasley."
A small chuckle next to him made him jump. He turned to see Julia laughing. "What is up with you today? Did someone give you a laughing pill or something?"
She grinned at him. "You seem so excited Oliver. And just so you know, this Weasley is nothing like the twins, so don't worry."
"And how would you know?"
"I talked to her on the train. She's really sweet."
Oliver just shrugged and watched the sorting. He clapped along with everyone else whenever anyone was sorted into Gryffindor. It wasn't suprising when the Weasley girl was sorted into Gryffindor also, and she was welcomed with loud shouts and calls from her twin brothers. Soon after the feast had started, the twins made their way down to him.
"Have you heard Oliver? Harry wasn't on the train. But he did manage to make it to Hogwarts," Fred said.
"What are you talking about?"
"He and Ron took my dad's car. They flew it into the Whomping Willow. Isn't it great!" George looked overly excited about it.
"Um, yeah, great," Oliver replied before returning to his food. He thought about it a few more moments though, and a thought hit him like a train.
What if Harry got expelled? He wouldn't have a Seeker anymore. Suddenly not hungry, Oliver pushed his plate away and thought about the circumstances sullenly. He'd have to make whole new plays if Harry wasn't Seeker anymore. Julia glanced at him curiously but didn't say anything.
The feast was soon over and Dumbledore made a quick speech before dismissing everyone. There was a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, but Oliver wasn't paying enough attention to care. He got up slowly and followed the rest of the Gryffindors to the portrait of the Fat Lady. Percy Weasley said the password which was "wattlebird" and the group went in. Everyone started to talk excitedly about the rumors going around about Harry Potter and Ron Weasley.
Oliver sat himself down in a chair and waited along with everyone else for the two boys to arrive. He wasn't looking at the entrance, but he knew when they got there. The room instantly erupted into shouts. Oliver tried to get over to Harry, but after a few moments decided it was just about impossible.
I'll just talk to him tomorrow, he decided. He quietly walked up to his dorm room. His things were already there. He changed quickly and went to bed. Today had been a very long day.

Two more parts after this one. :)

Ok, here's Part Three.
***
[/b]
Oliver woke with a start. He grabbed his watch and looked down. Five o'clock. He sighed and laid back down.
Five o'clock. Way too early. I need to go back to sleep.Sleep was not coming. He stared at the top of his four poster for a while and sighed once again. He wasn't going to sleep, not until tonight at least. He got up and started to get dressed, as quietly as possible so he wouldn't wake up his dormmates.
He grabbed his quidditch plays and started down to the Common Room.
At least I have something to do to kill time. He plopped himself into a chair by the fire and went through every play, making sure there wasn't a single flaw. What seemed like only minutes after he had come into the Common Room, a person sat down next to him, making him jump.
"Fred! What are you doing up so early?"
Fred gave Oliver a weird look and yawned. "What do you mean early? It's eight o'clock mate."
Oliver's eyes widened. "Eight o'clock? Wow. Where's George?"
"I'm waiting on him. The bloke is like a girl. He takes forever."
Oliver laughed. He knew how long it took George to get ready for anything. He should have guessed where he was. "I'm going to breakfast, see you later Fred."
Fred waved absently him while he yawned again. Oliver walked down to the Great Hall and took a seat. It would be another twenty minutes before the mail got there, and the Gryffindor table was relatively empty. Oliver sat at the most secluded spot possible and began to fill his plate with food. He was only eating for a few minutes when his head was almost pushed into his bowl of porridge.
He jerked his head up and turned to see who had pushed him. Julia stood next to him, grinning madly, with the Weasley twins behind her. Oliver had no idea which one had did it. It could have been any one of them. He glared at them all and mumbled a good morning before turning back to his food.
Julia's grin faded for a moment. She hadn't expected that reaction from him. Usually, he would of had some sort of sarcastic remark. She sat down and sighed. He probably just hadn't had a good morning.
Oliver really didn't know why he had reacted like that. He just wasn't in the mood for jokes. He glanced at Julia as she sat down, but didn't say anything. The table stayed quiet for some time, quite a feat when the Weasley twins are sitting across from you. The sound of rushing wings is what broke the silence.
"Mail's here," said Julia while looking up. A beautiful snow owl flew to the table and stopped in front of her. Julia grinned and took the package it carried. She took an owl treat out of her pocket and gave it to him. He ate it quikly, jumped on her shoulder, gave her ear an affectionate nip and then flew away.
"My mom sent me some stuff." She unattached a letter taped to the package and read silently. "Mom says hi Oliver and she hopes your well." She rolled her eyes. "Sometimes I think she cares about you more than me."
Oliver rolled his eyes also as a barn owl swooped down onto the table. He took the letter from him and gave him an owl treat. The owl flew away right when he heard a loud gasp.
"Ron has a howler," George said while looking down the table. Fred instantly whipped his head around to look that way. Both of their faces got pale. And about a second later, Oliver saw why.
"--YOU WAIT TILL I GET HOLD OF YOU--"
George and Fred were steadly turning whiter.
"--WE DIDN'T BRING YOU UP TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS--"
The twins glanced at eachother and laughed slightly. Oliver would of expected this to happen to them, but definately not Ron.
"--AND IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE WE'LL BRING YOU STRAIGHT BACK HOME."
The silence in the hall was deafening. Fred and George looked like they were about to burst if they couldn't start laughing. Soon the hall was filled with noise again, and the twins took that as their cue. Both of them busted out laughing, leaning on eachother for support. After awhile, Oliver got fed up.
"Give it a rest you two. It wasn't that funny."
"But that's the thing. Mum sent a howler to RON! Even we never got a howler!" George paused in his laughing only long enough to make that statement. Oliver sighed and read his letter. It was from his parents letting him know that they hadn't found anything that he might of forgotten. He smiled as he read his mom's reminder for him to be safe and have fun. She was always worrying.
"Letter from your parents?"
Oliver glanced at Julia. "Yeah. Letting me know I didn't forget anything."
"I guess you have a better memory than I do. I forgot a bunch, if you can't tell." She waved her hand at the large package on the table. Oliver laughed. Julia was very forgetful.
"What did you forget this time?"
"Just...stuff," she stated nonchalently. Oliver looked at her for a second and shrugged. If she wanted him to know, she would of told him.
Professer McGonagall showed up then with their schedules for the year. Oliver groaned when he saw that Gryffindor once again had double Potions with Slytherin. It never changed. He glanced at his watch before standing up. They only had fifteen minutes to get to class. Julia stood up next to him.
"I'm going to bring this package to my dorm."
"Okay."
They walked through the Great Hall together and parted ways after exiting. When they got to Potions class, Oliver made his way to the first empty table he saw. He put his bag on the floor and sat down. When someone sat in the seat next to him he turned, expecting to see Julia.
It wasn't Julia. It was another girl. He had seen her before, but when she smiled at him, he couldn't seem to recall her name.
"Hi Oliver. You don't mind if I'm your partner do you?"
It took him a few seconds to register what she said. "Er...no. That's fine."
She smiled at him again and Oliver smiled back. It was completely beyond him as to why this girl wanted to be his partner in the first place, but he definately wasn't complaining. He then rememberd that he didn't remember her name.
"Laura! Come over here," a red-headed girl from across the room called.
The girl next to him shook her head no.
Laura, Oliver thought,
that's a very pretty name. He sighed inwardly and started to look through his bag for a quill. He needed something to do to keep from thinking about the pretty girl sitting next to him.
A few moments later, Julia walked in the classroom. She scanned the room for Oliver and when she saw him her eyes dropped. Sitting next to him was Laura Preston. She said something to Oliver and he quit digging through his bag long enough to answer. It didn't seem to bother him that she was sitting with him.
Why is SHE sitting with him? Me and Oliver have been partners every year. Suprisinly to Julia, she felt like she was going to cry. She ducked her head down and sat at a different table behind them. Oliver didn't even notice her walk by. She sat at an empty table and put her head down on her bag. When she felt someone sit down next to her she glanced up slightly.
Julia couldn't keep the groan from coming out of her mouth when she saw Marcus Flint in the chair by her side. He sneered at her and laughed.
"What Julia? Aren't you glad to see me?"
"Hardly," she answered coldly. She glared at him for a second before looking back at Oliver and Laura. She felt something stir in her stomache as she watched them. She glanced back at her partner and groaned again. She already knew this day was going to be bad.
***
[/b]
Only one more part and that's the end.
-Hillary
Ok, LAST PART.
***
[/b]
Bad was an understatement. The day, for Julia, had steadily gotten worse. It was bad enough having Marcus Flint as your potions partner, but he had also ruined her potion by "accidentally" dropping in extra ingredients. Failing the first class of the year was not her idea of a good day.
In every class that day, Oliver had sat with Laura, which put her in an even worse mood. Oliver hadn't said a word to her since breakfast, and during lunch, she sat with Fred and George and he sat, once again, with Laura. She didn't really get what he saw in her anyways.
Oliver's day, on the other hand, had steadily gotten better. Laura was a very sweet girl, who was giving him her undivided attention. Who was he to not do the same for her? They sat together in every class, ate lunch together and walked together in between classes. He never once thought about Julia, until he got to the Gryffindor Common Room and saw her sitting at a table with books piled around her.
He sat across from her and grinned. "You're starting to remind me of Hermione Granger."
She looked up at him and glared. "I'm suprised you remember anything besides maybe Laura Preston." And with that she grabbed a few of the books and stomped up to the girls dormitories.
Oliver, completely shocked, stared after her. "What on earth was that all about?"
Before he had time to think about it, Fred and George sat down at the table, both grinning like madmen.
"What do you want?"
"Well," began Fred, "Rumor has it that you and Laura Preston have been spending an awful a lot of time together."
George nodded his head in agreement. "And, since we're the head of the rumor mill, we would like to know if there was anything going on. We'd rather hear it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak."
Oliver, once again, was shocked. He really hadn't thought of his and Laura's day as anything more than friendly company.
Maybe that's why Julia was mad at me, because of rumors about me and Laura. But that would mean she was jealous. He almost laughed at the thought.
Yeah right, Julia's jealous of me and Laura. Then he did laugh."You two are hopeless. There's nothing going on between me and Laura."
He looked around the room and spotted Harry sitting with Ron and Hermione. He was going to go over there but decided not to. He stood up and looked back at the twins. "I'm going to bed," he said, and walked towards the boys dormitories.
He sat in bed and stared at the top of his four poster. The only thing he could think of was Julia, and how angry she was at him. He still wasn't entirely sure why she was either. After a short amount of time, he heard everyone else come in the room. He listened while they talked, quietly because they thought he was asleep, and then went to sleep themselves.
After lying in bed for what felt like forever, Oliver decided that he wasn't going to sleep. He got out of bed quietly so not to disturb his dormmates and went down to the common room. He was suprised to see someone sitting by the fire. He was about to just go back upstairs when he noticed who that someone was.
"Why are you down here?"
Julia jumped and turned her head to see who had spoke. She sighed when she saw it was Oliver. "Couldn't sleep," she answered softly.
Oliver walked over to the couch she was sitting on and sat down next to her. "Me neither. Don't know why though. I woke up at five o'clock this morning."
Julia looked at him for a second and then back down at the book she was reading. There was an heavy silence between the two. Neither one of them could hardly stand it. Finally, Julia spoke.
"I'm sorry for being so rude tonight. I just had a bad day."
Oliver nodded slightly. "It's ok. It happens. Want to talk about it?"
Julia hesitated for a moment. She really didn't want to tell Oliver part of the reason why it was so bad, but she decided that Marcus Flint could make anyone's entire day bad, so she told him.
"I had to partner with Marcus Flint in potions."
Oliver's face twisted in disgust. It was well known how little he thought of Marcus Flint. And the fact that they were rivaling captains on the quidditch teams didn't help to lessen their hatred for eachother. Just the thought of him put Oliver in a bad mood.
"That's definately reason enough to have a bad day."
Julia laughed shortly. "Well, he also made it a point to ruin my potion, so I'm sure I got a failing mark in there today. The rest of the day was just...bad...I guess."
Oliver watched her for a moment to see if she was going to say anything else. When she didn't, he smiled at her.
"I'm sure tomorrow will be better."
"Yeah, maybe."
The two were quiet for a few minutes. Julia had started to read her book again and Oliver was quietly watching the fire. It felt nice to just sit next to her. He sighed and leaned back. He had started to get tired all of a sudden.
"I'm going to go back to bed," he said with a yawn. "Maybe I'll be able to fall asleep now."
"Okay. See you in the morning."
"Yeah." He stood and made his way back to his dorm room. Julia was holding something back, he was sure of it, but, like that morning, if she wanted him to know, she would tell him. He knew she would tell him eventually, she always did. At that thought, he got into bed and quickly fell asleep.

Sorry I had to turn this into so many parts. It's just a very long chapter. I hope you liked it. If you did, reply and tell me what you thought. If you thought it sucked, tell me. I think criticism is a very good thing. It makes writer's improve. Thanks for your time in reading. I'll be posting the second chapter as soon as it's done. :)

bump!
Thanks for the bump Ginny W!
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, although I wouldn't mind owning Oliver Wood. If the wonderful J.K. Rowling wanted someone to take him off her hands for a while, I would be happy to oblige. But, be as it may, she does NOT want someone to take anyone of her hands for her, so I still own nothing but my original characters. Pathetic isn't it.
Chapter Two
Throughout the week Julia acted very distant towards Oliver; but then again, he had been paying too much attention to Laura Preston to notice. Oliver was constantly with Laura. The only time Oliver wasn't talking to her, was when he was going over quidditch plays, and then, he wasn't talking to anyone. Julia tried her best not to think about it, but it was hard. She buried herself in school work, hoping no one would bother her and ask her what was going on.
That was how Oliver found her Friday night. She was sitting, once again, alone at a table in the Common Room, surrounded by books with her head buried in one. He watched her for a moment, thinking that this was very out of character for her. She never got into doing school work like this. Something was definately wrong, and he meant to find out what.
"Hi Julia."
Julia looked up sharply. She stared at him for a few seconds. Then put her head back down.
"Hey."
"Since when did you become such a bookworm?"
"Since there wasn't anything better to do."
He stood there for a minute, trying to think of something to say. Why can't I think of anything to say to her? I've never had this problem before.
She looked up at him and sighed. "Do you need anything Oliver? Or are you just going to stare at me all night?"
He thought for a short moment before answering. He knew he should chose his words wisely. "I need to talk to you later on okay? How about tonight, after everyone has gone to bed?"
She eyed him silently. She wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to him, but decided that she would have to eventually.
"Fine."
She looked back down at her books and ignored him. When he realized that she wasn't going to say anything else to him, he sighed and walked away to go talk tell the Quidditch team about the early morning practice the next day. He talked to Katie Bell, Angelina Johnson, and Alicia Spinnet before he approached the twins.
"Fred, George, we have practice tomorrow. Six o'clock."
The looked at him like he was crazy.
"Six o'clock?" Fred whined. "Why do we have to get up that early to practice? We're already better than everyone else."
"Yeah," said George, "we don't need anymore practice. Especially if it's at the crack of dawn."
"Well, we do need the practice. I want to get a head start on all the other teams. I know we're better than them, but we can't just beat them, we have to beat them by a lot of points to win the cup. Slytherin is always good. They will stomp Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. We have to beat all three of them by a lot of points or they could win."
Fred and George glared at him. "Fine, slavedriver. We'll be at practice. But don't blame us if we fall asleep."
Oliver gave George a warning look. "Where's Harry?" he asked while glancing around the common room.
"He went to bed," said George.
"I guess he's going to get a rude awakening in the morning," laughed Fred.
"Thanks." Oliver walked away, not really in the mood to continue a conversation with the twins. He decided to go up to bed until his dormmates came in. He knew the Common Room would be empty by then. He still didn't know why Julia had been acting the way she was. She couldn't of had a bad week. He laid down on his bed. He knew this was going to be a very long night.
***
Julia picked up one of the books on the table and moved over to the couch in front of the fire when the Common Room had finally emptied out. She really didn't want to talk to Oliver, but she knew that she had to. She had always been able to talk to him about everything, and he had always been there for her to talk to. But ever since Laura Preston had entered the picture, he wasn't there anymore.
She didn't know what to do without Oliver there to help her. She had become so accustomed to his company, that when he wasn't there, she was lost. She sighed and tried to read her book, but found it impossible. Her mind kept on wandering. Every time she started to focus, she saw Oliver and Laura sitting together in Potions class, or them walking down the hall together, or them eating lunch together. Every time she tried to think of anything else, she thought of them.
Stop it Julia. You're acting like you're jealous for crying out loud! she thought. But the thought suprised her. Maybe she was jealous. No! Of course I'm not jealous. That's rediculous! She sighed. It seemed to be pretty hard to convince herself that.
She heard someone coming and looked up. It was Oliver. He smiled at her when he entered the Common Room and walked over to the couch. She smiled timidly at him as he sat down. They sat in silence for a few minutes. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Why can't I talk? thought Oliver. And at the same time Julia was thinking the same thing. He sighed and turned to her.
"Look, Julia, I really don't know what is going on, but I wish you would talk to me about it. I mean, we're friends. We should be able to talk about it."
"I know Oliver, and I'm sorry for being the way I've been. It's just not been a very good week, and I'm taking it out on everyone."
Oliver stared at her for a second. "That's bull and you know it. You have never, not in all the years I've known you, buried yourself in anything and put up a wall between you and everyone else. What's going on Julia?"
As he asked the question, Laura instantly popped into his head, but he ignored it. There was no way Julia could be jealous of him and Laura. No possible way.
When he used the word friend, Julia felt an unfamiler sting in her stomache. Why did that word bother her so much? It had never bothered her before.
"I've just had a lot on my mind, that's all."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive. I'm fine Oliver. I just need some time to clear my thoughts."
His look clearly said that he didn't believe her, but he decided not to push it. He knew that she would tell him eventually. He would just have to be patient.
"Well, if you want to talk about it, I'm always here. You know that right?"
Julia's expression suddenly changed. "I'm sure you usually would be. I'm tired. Goodnight Oliver."
She stood up and left, leaving Oliver sitting there, once again, completely shocked by her actions. This was the third time she had done something like this. He didn't know what he kept on saying to make her react so coldly to him. All it did was confuse him even more to think about it. He sighed and leaned back. He would never get her.
When Oliver told Julia that he was always there, it keenly reminded her about how he hadn't been there at all in the past five days. She felt like crying when she walked up to her dorm room. She couldn't remember the last time Oliver hadn't been there for her. He had always been there, and now that he wasn't, and didn't even realize it, it was killing her inside.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! You rock so hard! Also, thanks for sticking the subject at the top! That is so cool. I didn't think this story was all that good. lol
To Meg-LOL. Of course us Wood Fans would write the best fics. Did you expect anything less ;) lol
The next morning Oliver woke up at 5:30 and started to get ready for Quidditch practice. At 5:45, he went to the second year dormitory and woke up Harry.
"What?" said Harry.
"Quidditch practice! Come on!" said Oliver.
Harry groaned. "It's the crack of dawn, Oliver. Are you crazy?"
"Exactly. None of the other teams have started yet."
Harry groaned and slowly dragged himself out of bed.
"Good man. Meet you on the field in fifteen minutes."
Oliver went to the changing room and got his Quidditch plays ready. When the entire team had entered the changing room, he carefully explained each one, taking a good twenty minutes on each. He tried to ignore the fact that his team was halfway asleep through the whole thing, and told himself that they got the gist of it.
"So, any questions?"
"I've got one," said George. "Why couldn't you have told us all this yesterday when we were awake?"
"Now listen," Oliver said. "We should have won the Cup last year. We're easily the best team. But unfortunately -- owing to circumstances beyond our control --" He noticed Harry shift uncomfortably, but continued. "So this year we have to train harder than before. Okay, so let's go practice."
Oliver looked over at the stands and noticed someone taking pictures. "Who is that? It could be a Slytherin spy."
"It's not," said Harry. "He's in Gryffindor."
"And the Slytherin's don't need a spy," said George.
"Why not?"
"Because they're here in person," he answered.
Oliver turned around to see the Slytherin Quidditch team walking acrosse the Quidditch pitch. "I can't believe this! I booked the field for today!"
He walked quickly over to the Slytherin Captian, Marcus Flint. "You can leave now. This is our practice time."
Flint grinned as he replied, "There's plenty of room for all of us, Wood."
Oliver looked like he was going to explode. "But I booked the field!"
"But I've got a specially signed note from Professor Snape. 'I, Professor Snape, give the Slytherin team permission to use the Quidditch pitch today owing to the need to train their new Seeker.'"
"You've got a new Seeker? Who?"
Draco Malfoy moved to the front of the team. "Look at these wonderful brooms my father donated." Oliver and the rest of the team gaped at the brooms. They were the new Nimbus Two Thousand and Ones. "They just came out last month."
Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley chose that moment to move across the field. Ron gaped also at the magnificent brooms in front of him. While Malfoy continued to talk about how his father was so good to buy them.
"At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in. They got in on pure talent," said Hermione.
Malfoy's face instantly got cold. "No body asked you, you filthy Mudblood."
The entire team was shocked. Ron jumped in front of Draco and glared at him. "You'll pay for that Malfoy!" he screamed before pointing his wand at him. A jet of green light came out of the back of the wand, hitting Ron in the chest and sending him flying back a few feet. When he stood, he opened his mouth and instead of words coming out, he threw up a number of slugs.
Oliver stared at him, disgusted. He turned back to Marcus Flint and glared. "Fine, train you're new Seeker. He needs much more training then we do anyways."
He turned quickly and walked off the field, the rest of his team, besides Harry who was helping Ron, following right behind him.
There's another part of the story right behind this one. :)

Make sure you read the part right before this one. You might get confused if you don't.
Throughout the next few weeks, Oliver was spending more time with Laura, who he was officially dating, and less time with Julia. He didn't really want to ignore his best friend like that, but every time he planned on talking to Julia period, Laura popped up and dragged him somewhere else, leaving nothing said between him and his best friend. Julia, on the other hand, decided that there was no point in trying with Oliver. Laura was with him everywhere. She had even begun going to Quidditch practices. Julia went herself, to every one, but stayed where Oliver couldn't see her. She had decided that ignoring him would be the best thing, and maybe he would realize that she was.
The two hadn't said a single word to eachother in almost a month. Oliver was constantly practicing and going over Quidditch plays and when he wasn't doing that in his free time, he was doing something with Laura. Julia, kept herself completely dedicated to her studies. She was starting to remind herself of Hermione Granger. It was about a week before Halloween before they were forced to speak.
Oliver, completely drenched from practicing in the pouring rain, was walking back into the school. Laura hadn't come to this practice, and he could definately see why. Not only had it been raining pretty hard, but it was also very windy. Julia went to every practice, raining or not. Oliver stopped dead in his tracks. Where did that come from? He shook his head and continued to walk towards Gryffindor tower. He was almost there when he remembered that he had left his plays in the changing rooms. They weren't locked, so anyone could get to them. He turned around and started to go back. When he turned the first corner, he connected with something hard that said "Oww" and fell over.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't know you..."
His words cut short when he saw exactly who it was he had run into. Julia sat on the floor glaring up at him.
"Well, are you just going to stand there, or are you going to help me up?"
"Oh! Sorry, really," he said as he gave her his hand and pulled her up. "I didn't know you were there. I'm really sorry Julia."
"It's ok."
She started to walk away before Oliver's hand on her arm stopped her.
"You're soaking wet Julia."
She looked over at him, searching for an easy excuse. "Well, so are you."
"But I had Quidditch practice. There was no reason for you to be outside."
He eyed her curiously as she began to blush. Julia never blushed.
"Um, well....er....I...uh...I had to do some...stuff."
She got even redder at her completely lame excuse.
"Stuff?" Oliver couldn't hold back the small chuckle.
Julia got even more red, if that was possible. "Yeah, stuff."
"What kind of stuff?"
"Why does it matter?"
"Well, what 'stuff' could be so important that you need to get drenched and catch a cold for?"
"Don't worry about it."
"I want to worry about it."
"Well, I don't want you to."
She stared up at him and sighed. He was too persistant for his own good.
"It doesn't matter if you want me to or not, I want to know."
She sighed once again. She could not tell him why she was outside. He sighed too. He didn't know why she was being like this. She was holding back a lot of things from him lately. Acutally, now that he thought about it, he hadn't even talked to her in who knows how long.
While he seemed to be thinking, Julia took that as her cue to try and walk away and keep from having to answer any more questions. Oliver noticed the second she started to walk away.
"Oh no you don't," he said as he grabbed her arm and started walking. "Since you seem to be so keen on getting wet, then you can go with me to the changing rooms to get my Quidditch plays."
"But...Oliver, I want to go and get DRY now, so you just go on by yourself."
"I don't think so."
Oliver practically dragged her the first few feet before she finally gave in and walked on her own. She walked slowly and kept her head down. She didn't know why he was so persistant about it, but she followed him anyways. She knew she would have to face him sooner or later. She would of rather chose later, but it would be better to face him now and get it over with then run off, get him mad, and then have to face him later.
They walked through the downpour to get to the changing rooms where Oliver started to look for his Quidditch plays. She heard him curse under his breath.
"They were here, right here. We're not leaving until we find them."
"No...you're not leaving until YOU find them. I'm leaving."
Oliver ran up to her and grabbed her arm once again. "No...you're not. We need to talk and you know it, so we're going to sit in here until we settle this."
"Settle what? I don't know what you're talking about."
"You do know Julia. Don't play dumb."
She sighed and sat down. She knew she wasn't going to get away, at least, not when he was watching her. She watched him while he started to look for his Quidditch plays. About five minutes later, he walked over to her.
"Found them."
"Good, now we can leave," she said, standing up.
"No, now we can talk."
Julia sat down again.
"What is there to talk about Oliver?"
"Why have you been acting so distant?"
"Me? Distant? Um, excuse me if I'm wrong, but I'm not the one that's so caught up in someone else that I can't even talk to my best friend."
"So it's Laura?"
"No, it's you."
"Me?"
"Yes, you. All you do, is spend time with her. You don't even talk to the twins anymore. I'm suprised the girl gives you time for Quidditch. The only time you're not with her, you're doing something for Quidditch. That's all you care about Oliver. I don't want to be at the bottom of your priority list anymore."
Oliver stared at her. He hadn't even realized what had been going on, and, now that he thought about it, he had been doing that. He couldn't remember the last time he had talked to twins except to tell them about Quidditch practice, or during Quidditch practice. He sighed.
"I'm really sorry Julia. I didn't even realize that was what I was doing. I promise I won't ignore you anymore."
"That's not just it Oliver. You can't promise that. Laura has you completely wrapped around her finger, and she knows it. I've seen the few times you've actually s tarted to walk over to me, and each time, she came up and pulled you away. She doesn't want me in the picture, Oliver, and she's doing a good job of keeping me out."
Oliver looked very suprised. "She's not like that Julia. She's not jealous of you or anything. I'm sure if I told her I was going to do something with you she would care."
"That's what you think," Julia mumbled. Oliver acted like he didn't hear it.
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
"All you ever do is bury yourself in books. I think you've checked out the entire library by now."
"I just really need to work more on my studies. My marks weren't exactly the greatest last year, and I didn't get as many O.W.L's as I should have."
She was rambling and Oliver felt like screaming at her. She was still hiding something from him.
"Julia, you're not telling me something, and you're not leaving until you tell me."
"I don't want to talk about."
"Well, you're going to. You used to tell me everything. What happened?"
Julia felt herself start to get angry. "What happened was you started to ignore me! What happened was you acted like I didn't exist! What happened was I didn't have anyone to talk to anymore! What happened was I lost my best friend!"
Julia had stood in the middle of this and was practically screaming in Oliver's face. He looked completely shocked. Julia took a deep breath and sat back down. Her face was violent shade of red. Oliver sat down next to her.
"Is that what you think? That you've lost me?"
Julia shifted her head so her hair fell over her face and she didn't have to look at him. Oliver reached over and turned her head by her chin and pushed her hair behind her ear. He rested his hand on her cheek before he spoke.
"I'll always be here for you Julia, no matter what Laura wants, or thinks, or does, I'll always be here."
Julia wanted more than ever at that moment for him to kiss her. The thought surprised her. Her eyes widened and she scooted away from him.
"I have to go."
She ran out of the changing room leaving a very shocked and confused Oliver behind.
