Title: Sebastian's life
Post by: Sabastian on December 12, 2003, 06:28:38 PM
                          Sebastian's Life

                       CHAPTER 1  AGE 12

Special thanks goes out to Kiara who, gave me the main idea for this story and helped me get it started.  I hope you all ike it.  here goes.

It was a rainy night, Sebastian looked out the window of the castle.  The rain beat upon the pane driven by the sheer force of the wind.  He had been waiting in this room for several hours now.  He wondered what trouble he would get into this time.  It wasn't his fault she always made him so angry.  Why shouldn't he have stuck her away.  She always bested him in their duels, It was about time he was able to best her, even if he did cheat.

The door to the room opened and in walked a very angry looking and wet, Lord Belgarion, his one Master.  The very person who sent him here to think about what he had done.  Sebastian stood and then bowed.
"Have you put any thought into why you put Kiara in the void, with out an escape rout?"  Belgarion asked in a gruff manner.
"Yes sir, I have."  Sebastian answered.
"Well boy, what do you have to say about it then.  You are but 12 years old and already you have irritated me to no end.  Why do you insist on fighting her so hard, she should be your friend, not your enemy, Kiara has done nothing to deserve this.  For your sake, I hope she breaks your spell and comes back, other wise, you'll be tried for murder.  You do realize this, don't you?"
"Yes sir, I do and that is precisely why I did it.  If I have to live at that orphanage much longer, I'll kill every one there.  Why can't I live with a real family?  Why do they hold me there?  I understand that there was a few people wanting to take me in and they said no, turned them away.  Why?"
"Have a seat Sebastian, I think it's time someone told you the truth about those who wanted to take you.  Perhaps then, you won't find it so hard to forgive the orphanage for turning them away."

Sebastian sat back down in his seat.  Belgarion took the seat opposite him and sighed a heavy sigh.  It was as though what he had to say was difficult.  Sebastian  had never seen his master have a problem with speaking about anything.  Belgarion always seemed to him, immortal.  He was Overlord of the Western hemisphere and a God slayer.  Nothing much seemed to faze him.  Suddenly, Sebastian saw him as a real person.

"Those people who came for you wanted you for one reason and one reason only.  What I am telling you, I shouldn't be, but I think it is best for the sake of all who live around you and the sake of your sanity to know."  Belgarion began.  "They were Wizards from England.  They work under a great Dark Lord named Voldem0rt.  Voldem0rt is trying to overtake the world, and your power has caught his eye.  If they were to have you, they could do anything, they would turn you into something horrid, something unstoppable and the Magic world we live in would be changed forever.  You must understand that we can not let that happen. "

Sebastian sat there looking off into the night through the window for a very long time.  He didn't move or even blink.  He just sat there, thinking about what his master had just told him.  Thousands of questions raced through his mind.  All ending in, why.  He finally turned to Belgarion and sighed.

"I understand, may I go now."  He asked instead of asking his questions.
"Are you sure?  You have no questions for me then?"  Belgarion asked.
"No sir, may I go?"
"Very well then, you are dismissed, I'll see you tomorrow, pray Kiara gets out soon, ---" He trailed off as Sebastian left his company.

Sebastian walked through the great stone castle of Riva.  The corridors now empty of courtiers and simple folk., looking for answer from the Great Belgarion.  The flames flickering on the walls now sent eerie shadows along the hall.  Sebastian pulled his cloak a bit tighter around himself as a chill ran through him.  All he could think of is why.

He stepped out of the castle in to the stormy night.  The wind blowing his cloak about.  He pulled up his hood, giving him the appearance of the Grim Reaper.  The streets were all deserted of people.  The lights from houses shown through the rain, making Sebastian think of the families inside.  Making him think of how they were all probably sitting around a warm fire laughing and talking about what ever had happened to them at the family fair earlier to day.  Making him want to be with his own family more and  more.

Sebastian had no idea who his real parents were, all he knew was that he had always been at the orphanage.  No one ever took him home like they did all his friends.  Now, he was 12 and this usually meant that he'd be staying there until he was 18.  No one ever adopted a child over 7.

His footsteps took him further away from the castle and down the cobbled streets of town.  The wind still howling and the rain stinging  the skin on his young face, hiding the tears running down his cheeks.  Finally, after walking a mile, he ended up at the doorstep of the Riva Orphanage, his home.

Sebastian opened the great front door with some difficulty, the wind trying it's best to keep him held in it's grasp, then walked in, soaked to the bone and depressed.

Sebastian walked the deserted foyer then reached the bottom of the stairs, leading to the boy's dormitory when the night keeper rounded the corner.
"Hello, Sebastian.  I trust Belgarion read you the riot-act concerning what you did to that Maul girl.  You need to learn control boy.  I can't have one of my kids arrested for murder, what will the town think?  Your on dish duty for the rest of the week and no magic!  I want those dishes scrubbed and sparkling before you go to bed each night.  You can start now."  She told him.  Glaring at him then looking at the water on the floor where he had entered the home.
"While your at it, you can clean up this mess young  man!"  Then she turned and walked back to her office and slammed the door.

Sebastian walked up the stairs and to his room, taking off his wet clothes and replacing them with new, dry ones.  Then he walked slowly back down the stairs to the broom closet and began work on the floor.

There was a clang on the widow and he looked out it.  He couldn't see anything with the rain beating down upon the pane so he stowed the mop back in the closet and went back to the door.

Sebastian opened the door slowly, trying to keep the wind from ripping it out of his small hand.
"Hello?"  He called out into the stormy night.
"Hello, is someone there?"  He called again.

There was no answer so he decided it must have just been a rock or other piece of debris carried by the wind.  He turned to go inside then was grabbed from behind.

The next morning, Sebastian woke up in his own bed.  He sat up in bed, still wearing the same clothes he had put on to do the chores his house master had told him to do.  His head was hurting and he couldn't figure out why.  When he swung his feet over the edge of the bed, he noticed that his feet were rather dirty, as if they had dried mud on them.  He couldn't remember walking out side last night.  Suddenly, he remembered opening the door to investigate a noise.

Sebastian quickly lifted his shirt and his fears were confirmed.  In the middle of his chest was a cut, running from the top of his chest to the bottom of his ribcage.   He ran his hand along it's length, sealing it up and healing as best he could, for some reason, it left a shimmering scar that would not go away.  He felt odd.  Something had happened last night, why couldn't he remember.  He suddenly realized he needed badly to change his sheets and his clothes before the staff came in and found the mess.  Instead of running about trying to find what he needed, he simply magiced it all clean.  Easier than physically doing it himself.

He walked down stairs to the dining hall and sat in his usual chair, the kids all looked at him as he sat.
"Sebastian."  Came the familiar voice of the night keeper.

Suddenly he remembered he did not clean the dishes last night, he began to panic, trying to come up with an excuse, for some reason, he didn't want to speak of whatever had happened last night.
"Yes?" he said.
"You did a good job on these dishes last night.  Are you certain you used no magic?'  She asked

Sebastian couldn't believe it, he did do them, or someone did.
"No, I didn't use magic."  He replied a little too easily.  It wasn't like him to lie like this.  Sure, he was a trouble maker and he was a bit rude at times, but lying was never his thing.

The Night Keeper, knowing his record for telling the truth let it drop then.  Sebastian couldn't believe it.  He had lied and gotten away with it.  Suddenly a new feeling arose in him.  A feeling of power, one of such intensity that he shuddered against it.  He looked about at the faces of all the boys and girls he'd lived with for some time now and suddenly, they meant nothing to him.  Nothing at all.  He smiled and ate his breakfast in silence, ignoring any attempt at conversation the other children might have tried to create.  Their questions about Kiara and his putting her into the void, seemed to be nothing more than an annoyance to him.  He stood, walked from the room and headed out the door.

Title: Re:Sebastian's life
Post by: Sabastian on January 6, 2004, 04:24:09 PM
He walked into the bright light of the morning sky.  The sun shining off his eyes, making the dark pools of his iris shine.  Soon, he found his feet carrying him towards the loading docks where, all the ships were moored at the docks, while huge men, smelling of day old ale, worked and sweated in the morning sun to unload or load their wears.

Since Belgarion had opened Riva to traders, there always seemed to be sailors about.  Not the normal Naval sailors of the Royal Rivan fleet but, gruff, odd smelling, old sailors who liked a strong drink and could always spin a tale of the sea better than the rest of the world.  Sebastian liked these men, they where gruff, rude, strong and perfect, in his book.

After a few more steps, Sebastian found himself standing out side the Port Bar.  Normally, children would not be allowed to enter but, Sebastian had made friends with the owner, Mr. Stiles, after rescuing his lovely daughter, Carla, from the water.  She had fallen in when chasing after her kite.  So, when he opened the door and stepped inside, no one moved to catch and throw him out.

There was an old Sea Captain sitting at one of the tables, eating yesterdays soup so Sebastian went and sat down.
"Hi, names Sebastian, I haven't seen you here before, where you come from?"  The boy asked.

The gruff looking man didn't look up from his meal, but grunted his welcome and continued to eat.  Sebastian sat back in his chair and looked around.  There was no sense in trying to force a conversation from the man, he seemed like the rest.  Sebastian knew that meant he'd have to wait until the sailor had a few ales before he'd talk.

The interior of the bar was dusty  and the smell of rotten straw, rising up from the floor was mixed with the putrid smells of both stale ale and piss.  Sebastian smiled, any normal person would have lost their stomach walking into a place like this but not him, he'd learned to put a spell upon himself before walking in, one that allowed him to breath fresh air instead of the stank air of the bar.

Sebastian got up from his chair and made to walk toward the bar when he heard the old captain grunt behind him.  Sebastian turned to look and saw the old man motioning him to sit back down.  So, with ut complaint Sebastian sat back down and waited.

"Names Grindock.  I come from England, brought a load of fancy looking Englishmen from there, they paid me good enough, but I think I'll high tail it outta here before they come lookin' ta gain passage back on me ship again."  Grindock started.

Sebastian sat with his elbows on the table, his chin cupped in his hands, they way many children do when they are raptly listening to a story.

"Ya don' wanna buy an old man a drink do ya?"  Grindock said with an almost toothless smile.  "I'll tell ya what it is about them Englishmen if ya do."  He added.

Sebastian grinned a little boys grin at he old man then he slipped a hand into his robes and came out with some money.
"This enough?"  Sebastian asked, knowing full well it would buy the man a nights worth of ale.

Grindock's eyes widened and his aged face too on what Sebastian thought, might be a smile.  Although, it was masked by the many wrinkles on his leathery face.

After they had flagged down the surly waitress and she had brought Grindock his ale and had promised to keep em' coming, Grindock settled back into his chair and began his story.  Sebastian once again, took on the child-like position of the good intent listener he was.

"Well, a' firs' it seemed ok, the young man who hired me paid me the 3000 galleons  an we was off. I dinin see me other passengers, they was loaded on when I was checkin' the charts to fine this place.  It wasn' till I got a chance ta eat me dinner that I ran into the one They called --"  Grindock scratched his head and took a drink from his mug.  "-- I can' fer the life o' me remember the old fellows name, Awe well, doesn' matter any how.  He sat down in a chair facin' me and I looked up at im and tried me best ta keep from jumpin' outta me britches, I tell you.  The man was evil lookin, almost as if he were the devil himself.  I'm tellin' you boy, he was evil.  I says ta him Hello in a right friendly matter and he just nodded that head of his, dinin say o word, juss nodded.  I ate me dinner as quick as possible then got outta there.  It wasn' until later that night I decided I'd skip town after I dropped them off here, I heard em'  I heard em' saying things I sure don' wanna hear any one say again, that's for sure.  What I will tell ya was that they was plannin' sumptin, sumptin evil. "  Grindock took another long drink from his mug then looked around as if he were worried about someone sneaking up behind him and slashing his throat.  "Well, what they was plannin' was ta take a youngin' from these here parts and turnin' him into sum sortta monster.  They said they would take him from his home and make him do things, terrible things.  The one that I told you about?  The evil lookin' one?  Well, he sounded angry at one of the others, then you know what he did boy?  Well, he used the Killin' curse on that one.  I'm tellin' you, I think That the one I was carrying over here was --"  Grindock's voice fell really silent. " -- He who must not be named."  You know who I'm talkin; bout'  don't you boy, I can tell by you're look.  That's why I'm scootin' outta her." Grindock finished as he took a final draw off his mug.

Sebastian sat up in his chair, his already pale skin turning a shade whiter.  Could it be that Voldem0rt himself had come looking for him like Belgarion had said?  He didn't know but suddenly he felt a real urge to run out of the bar screaming all the way to the castle.
"Hum, thank you for your tale sir, I'm going to be late for class --"  Sebastian laid another sickle on the table then got up and left quietly.

Sebastian walked from the bar in a brisk manner.  All his nerves told him to run, run straight to the castle and not stop until he was at the side of Belgarian, and safe.  As he stepped from the Port Bar and heard the door shut behind him, that's exactly what he started out to do.  His legs carried him fast and faster down the dock towards the streets of the Rivan city, when finally, he rounded the first corner to the cobbled streets, Sebastian finally slowed back to a walk.  His chest heaved in and out, regaining his breath and his eyes darted around nervously.  After about a block, he saw a stranger walk out from an ally.

Sebastian's heart stopped, skipped a beat then began to pound in his chest but, as the stranger approached, something else came over him, a calm.  A calm like none other.

"Come with me boy, your master wishes to speak to you."  The stranger said.

Sebastian had no choice but to follow this stranger.  His mind tried to argue but it gave up in the end and he followed the stranger back down into the ally.

They walked for about a hundred yards then came to a door.  The stranger opened it and Sebastian followed him inside.

The room the walked into was dimly lit with the smell of stale ld candles wafting through the air.  Sebastian wrinkled his nose at the smell but stood quietly where the stranger had told him to.

"Wait here boy.  I will get our master."

Sebastian watched as the small, fowl smelling stranger walked away.  Sebastian also noted his British accent.  He didn't know why but he wasn't afraid at all.  Everything in his mind seemed to quit.  He couldn't think any longer all he could do was stand and wait.

After what seemed a life time, the door to the opposite room creaked open.  A man that stood possibly 6 and a half feet tall walked into the room.  His eyes glowed a fiery red and his whole presence would have normal sent Sebastian in to a fit of terror.  However, Sebastian didn't feel a thing, not calm not fear nor even love for the man.  He stood there, watching him as he walked, cloaked in black robes to stand not one foot away from him.

"My son, I have found you.  There is a girl, one that you have already sent into a void but she will get out, you must make her destroy your living self.  Have no worries, you'll return, I have made sure of this."  The evil looking Wizard spoke in his unpleasant tone.

"Yes father, I will do as you ask."  Sebastian found him self saying.  He couldn't argue but when was he supposed to do it?  He dared not ask a single question, a little of that fear he wondered about was beginning to return to his senses.

Sebastian walked along the cobbled streets of Riva, he knew not how long he had walked or even where it was he was going.  Suddenly, he remembered the old man but couldn't remember his tale.  Sebastian turned down a street and walked up to the Rivan Castle to begin his morning trials with his master, Belgarian, not even knowing what had transpired between himself and Lord Voldem0rt
