Title: The Soulstone
Post by: Kiara Johnson on July 22, 2004, 07:23:41 AM
Kiara woke up and smiled, she had been home now for a year, Max lay next to her and even though she had been back this long, she still couldn't help but gaze at him as he slept, happy to be at his side.

Everyday she'd been back, there had been no sign of the change in her.  She supposed it was because of all the attention she was receiving from Max.  He seemed to keep her at his side every waking moment.  She didn't mind though.

Kiara turned and silently got out of bed, she headed to the drawing room and sat in a high backed chair, her eyes fixed on several books, lining the shelves in front of her.  Suddenly her eyes caught sight of a book she had long ago told Evan to keep to himself.  She got up, went over and plucked the black bound book from its resting place and brought it back to the chair with her.

She opens The Book OF Darkness with loving fingers then thumbs through the pages with great care, all the while, wondering what it was doing here.  She sighs and reluctantly closes it, still keeping it on her lap, her fingers drumming on the cover.

"Evan, why have you sent this here?  Is something going on?"  She asked in a quiet voice.

She got no answer, as expected but knew, there had to be a reason.

CHAPTER 1: The BOOK OF DAREKNESS

Several weeks had passed since she had found the book.  Max seemed to want it out of the house but Kiara stood her ground on this one.  She knew the key to retrieving her Soulstone was in there and thought that perhaps, that was just the reason Evan had dropped it off in her care.

"You should get going Max, your father said that you had to head the training for the new Aurors and will more than likely be more than a little miffed if you don't get there on time."  Kiara said, giving her husband a soft kiss on the cheek.

Max smiled at her, his ice-blue eyes showed just how much he didn't want to go back to work and be away from her.

"Get out of here Max.  I'll still be here when you get home.  Promise."  She smiled again.

"Ok, I'll see you at dinner then."  Max replied, giving returning her kiss then dissaperated from their home.

Kiara sighed; this was indeed the first time since she had come back that they had been separated for any length of time.  She shrugged her shoulders and began to walk around the empty house.

After about an hour of cleaning and rearranging, Kiara ended back in the drawing room, staring at the books on the shelf.  She ran a finger over the spines, her hand stopping at the Book of Darkness.  She closed her hand into a fist, and then stretched her fingers back out, taking the book from its resting place once more.  She carried it with her to the table and sat in the high backed leather seat then opened it.

This book, much like the Book of The Dead, intrigued her to no end.  The feel of it's pages alone, sent chills through her arms as she turned the pages.  She came across the pages she had read, a lifetime ago, on the grounds of Hogwarts.  The very pages that max read for her and the very pages that freed her from the hold of her Soulstone.

Kiara thumbed through a few more pages and began reading again, this time, her eyes followed the words, held them in her mind like pictures taken form a camera.  These words she read now, told of how to release the Soulstone.  A chill seemed to enter the room as she read, first, to herself, then; with out even realizing it, the words came slipping form her lips in a silent drone, almost as if she were in a trance.

The lights on the room flickered then went out.  Kiara looked up and narrowed her eyes, turning them back on again then, she continued to read, once again, slipping into that trance-like state, speaking in an old language, long forgotten.

When her words fell into silence and there was nothing more to read, Kiara closed the book, put it back on the shelf and continued her cleaning.  She didn't even remember why she had taken the book from its resting place.

Kiara shrugged her shoulders then went to the next room, to begin a cleansing of it as well.  She spent the entire day, cleaning the house and by the time max came home, she had fallen asleep on the couch, dinner setting on the table waiting for him.

"Hello Sleepy" Max smiled, leaning and kissing her cheek lightly.

Kiara opened her eyes and smiled back.

"Hey, I hope you're hungry hun."

After dinner, Kiara felling extremely tired went to bed early, max sat in the Drawing room, he looked at the bookshelf, all expression fading from his face.

Max stood and walked to the bookshelf, his hand reached out and pulled the Book of Darkness from its resting place and brought it to the table and sat, in the same, high backed chair as Kiara had much earlier that day.

His fingers thumbed through the pages, with much less tenderness than Kiara, but still with a great purpose.  His hands stopped moving an the page opposite the one Kiara had read earlier, his lips began to move, speaking the words written on the page, out loud.

Once again, just as Kiara had done, Max too, stood, put the book away and never even remembered picking it up at all.  He suddenly felt very tired and went to bed.

"You did well Lucius, getting the book into their home must have been difficult, but now..." Draco looked to his right at a rift in the room.  "Now, I can journey into the realm in which Max sent the stone.  I can then, hold Kiara's soul in the palm of my hand."  Draco finished, a smile spread across his lips and he stood.

"Who would have guessed that a simple book, would be the key to my wining."  Draco smiled once again then walked into the rift.

"Ya, a simple book, not so simple to steal from an angel."  Lucius said lowly then sat in his fathers' chair to wait.

"What do you mean it's gone?"  Kiara growled.

"I mean that its gone Kiara.  The book is gone.  Maybe Evan took it back."  Max replied then stopped, looking at her as she glared at him accusingly.  "Stop looking at me like that, I didn't take it."

"Sure you didn't."  Kiara growled back, not even knowing why she was mad, she just was.

She turned to walk from the room and Max grabbed her arm, stopping her.  Kiara stood, not trying to get away, but instead sighed.

"Look at me."

"No."

"Kiara, look at me."  Max reached out and turned her around.

"What?"

"Did you read the book when it was here?"

Kiara nodded her head; remembering how she read about the retrieval of the stone, but that was all.  She related it to Max.

He looked at her and nodded.

"That's the same thing I read.  Doesn't it seem odd that after we both read it, the book is gone again?"  He asked her.

Kiara looks at Max, her expression is mixed with fright and then with apology.

"I think I need to know if Evan sent it here or not Max.  I'm sorry, I need to call him."  She said, a bit quietly, knowing how much he hated the very sight of her Guardian angel.

"Ok Kiara, call him.  If there's something wrong, then we really need to know."  Max responded.  "But I'm staying with you the whole time he's here."  He added with a frown.

Chapter 2:  The Truth Hurts

Kiara sat and waited, she called Evan from where ever it was he rested.  She wasn't sure of how long it would take him to receive her call.  Max paced the floor/

"Where is he?  Why does he wait so long?  It used to be that you didn't even have to call him and he'd show up.  Why, now that we do NEED him, he isn't anywhere to be found."  Max said peevishly.

Kiara said nothing, just held the locket in her hand, and waited.

"What's wrong Kiara?"  Evan said, his voice coming form behind her.

"It's about time."  Max glared.

Evan ignored him.

"Did you send the Book of Darkness to me about a week ago?"  Kiara said, getting right to the point.

Evan looked taken off guard.

"No, Kiara, it was stolen from me about a month ago.  Was it here than?"  Evan asked.

Kiara nodded.

"I had thought you sent it here, for one reason or another but it's gone again now.  There is more too..." Kiara paused and looked at him, then to Max. "Max and I both seemed to read a passage in it and then, the next day it was gone.  It was the passage describing how to locate the banished Soulstone.  You don't think that..." She didn't finish, she didn't have to.  The look on Evan's face was answer enough.

"Well, have either of you had any laps of memory?'  Evan then asked.

Max looked at Kiara then at Evan and nodded his head, Kiara, the same.

"Then you both have read the words to open the rift, some one is after the stone.  Who ever it is, won't fond it an easy task, but if they are determined enough, they will eventually posses it."

Kiara looked upon the Guardian Angel and noticed something different; she had stopped paying attention to his words and started wondering if Max had noticed the change too.

Evan's normally golden-blonde hair had darkened and his features seemed much less innocent looking than before.  Kiara thought that perhaps, like her, he was changing to the Demon form of him.  She had seen that form once before and didn't like it. She looked then to Max and back to Evan again, hoping her curious expression went unnoticed by the two of them.

"We all know who's after it Evan, how could you leave something like that unprotected."  Max growled, bringing Kiara back to the conversation.

"I have been preoccupied Max."  Evan growled back.  "It is non of your business what or why I do what I do."  He finished, a low growl escaping his throat.

Kiara looked between the two, but stayed out of it.

"But it is my business when something of that nature concerns my wife.  You are supposed to be her guardian, why can't you just do your job."  Max retorted.  "If the stone is held by him, then I stand to loose everything.  Kiara will become what we most definitely don't want her to become..."

"NO!  Draco is not the one who will change her Max, you know that as well as I.  It is her marriage to my father that will do that.  The Soulstone is nothing once she turns.  It will be nothing because her soul will die."  Evan hissed.  "Look, I have told you what you needed to know Kiara."  Evan turned to her.  "There is nothing I can do about it.  I am sorry, I am not permitted to play the games of the mortals any longer, and all I can do is tell you what I know.  The book can still be found again and the Soulstone put back.  This can go on forever and ever, but the one thing you two seem to have lost sight of in that there is still the Devil to deal with and he has not set aside his plans to walk the earth again.  I fear that it will not be much longer until I can no longer help either of you."  He paused and looked almost sadly at Kiara.  "I am leaving and will not come the next time you call.  You no longer have a guardian angel, his father has bound him and there is no telling how much longer he can fight what he is.  Like you, I am changing."  Then he paused again and started to leave but stopped.  "You will have another visitor with in the next week, please except his help.  I know how jealous your husband is and how he tends to hold grudges against others, but please Max, except his help.  He is the only one who can help you now."  Then, Evan was gone, leaving both Kiara and Max staring at the spot he once stood, both more confused than ever.

After a long period of silence Max, still angry turned to Kiara.

"I told you to get rid of that thing when I saw it.  Why do you never listen to me."  He said in a low, almost accusing manner.

"What?  Do you think that I am happy about this max.  Evan wouldn't answer me when I tried to ask him..."

"Don't you see what we are fighting Kiara, don't you get it.  If Draco actually does retrieve your Soulstone, he will control you in the direction needed by the Devil.  If that happens then..."

"Stop right there Max.  Don't you know how I feel on this?  Don't you realize what it does to me every single day, Knowing that what we truly fight is me?  How do you think it makes me feel to know that one day, I will even turn on you, and my children?"  She cut him off.  "What happened with the book, I can admit, was my fault for not listening to you.  However, it is not my fault that I am who I am.  There is nothing I can do to change that.  Even Evan is changing, and I think it has everything to do with who I am.  I was given a choice you know..." she trailed off, looking at him.

"What do you mean, given a choice for what?"  Max answered, his voice less angry now and more curious.

"Never mind Max.  I came back, and we are together, that's all that matters now.

Max turned and looked at her. Her emerald eyes seemed sad, but no tears came to them.  He realized, for the first time since she had been back that, no tears ever seemed to come to those eyes any more.  No matter what the case, she never cried.  He wondered and now, he needed to know the truth of what happened up there, when she had let herself be dead.

"You came back, you make it sound as though you thought about not doing so. Is that what you are trying to say?"  Max said, his voice calm, almost frightened to hear the truth.

Kiara's emerald eyes looked deep into the ice-blue pools of her husband, there was, once again, not tears and the sadness that was there before, was now replaced with something else, something totally unreadable, a feeling so deep, it could not be explained, but Max felt it and it made him shiver on both sadness and rage.

"I was given a choice, one that I knew I had to make.  I couldn't let you die.  That is why I came back.  I couldn't stand the thought of you dying because I was too afraid of what would happen to me.  I knew, the moment I set foot on the earth, I would start to change, no matter how hard I would try to stop it, I would eventually become something that you would have to hunt down and kill.  I had to come back because I love you.  I also know that we can fight this together, but if, for one instant, you have doubts about me, I may falter.  If for one instant, I think that you find me less the lover that I used to be, I would turn to anger, that anger is what I cannot let out.  I have to remain separate from feeling Max.  I have no choice in the mater."  Kiara paused and took a steadying breath.  "Yes, Max, I almost didn't come back."

Max was still, he didn't move or even breath for a moment, then, he looked way.

Yes, Kiara almost didn't come back but it wasn't because she had doubts about their love, but was afraid of herself.  But still, she also seemed to have doubts that he would be able to keep her away from her anger.  That hurt more than anything right now.  Even though he knew she loved him more than life its self, she was afraid of him.

"Kiara, I would never doubt your love.  It's evident in everything you do.  Every look you give me, holds me up, every touch, tells me that you want to be here.  Thank you for telling me the truth."  He said, finally.  Then went and sat with her.

"You already have doubted me Max, you doubted me by asking that very question."  Kiara thought to herself, but then turned and smiled at him, giving him a light kiss on the cheek.

"Are you hungry?"  She asked.

CHAPTER 3 THE VISITOR

The next week went by quietly with Max and Kiara spending as much time as they could, between Max's work and constant visits from the kids and other family or friends, trying to find out where the Book of Darkness was.

Kiara was now setting out dinner and Max was due home at any moment and there was a knock at the door.

Kiara flinched; her nerves wound then laughed at herself and went to the door.  When she opened it, she froze, no sound coming form her lips and a look of curiosity written plainly on her beautiful face.

"Hello, Kiara."

Kiara stepped aside, to admit him, but still said nothing as she watch the silvery-haired Sorcerer walk in to her home.

"Looks like I am just in time for dinner, good, I 'm starving."

"Come in..." Kiara said finally. "Moloch."

"So, you can still speak, I was beginning to wonder."  Moloch answered, his red eyes looking at her, and a half smile creping across his lips.

Kiara laughed at herself again, she knew they'd be expecting someone, sooner or later but when Moloch showed at her door, she almost passed out form pure shock.

"I'm sorry, that was rude.  Have a seat, Max will be home soon and I've just about got dinner ready.  You are, of course, more than welcome to join us."  Kiara answered him formally.

Moloch sat in a chair and watched as Kiara walked from the room and into the kitchen.

When Kiara turned to head back out to the dining room, Moloch was standing in the doorway.  He had some how slipped dint with out her knowing, this unnerved her a little and she almost dropped the plate she was carrying.

"Here, let me take that."  Moloch said, taking the plate from her and walking into the dining room he sat it on the table.

Kiara let him take it and followed him.  When he turned, he frowned.

"I needed to talk to you before Max got home.  You realize that things are beginning to come to a head here, do you not?"  He said in his low, almost animal-like voice.

"Yes, I realize that Moloch, but what do you want with me now?  I thought you wanted me dead?"  Kiara asked curiously now, the initial shock wearing quickly away.

"I do want you dead Kiara, but only if you change completely.  I lost my chance to kill you a long time ago.  But that is not what I'm here for now.  I am here to tell you why, I have been the one charged with keeping you form the devils side."  He started, motioning for her to take a seat.

Kiara shook her head, once again, someone telling her to take a seat right before they lay a heavy load on her.

"No thanks, I'll stand."  She said, narrowing her eyes, knowing what was to come next and trying not to get irritated by it.

"Suit yourself."

He said it and Kiara nearly laughed.

"Go on Moloch, tell me what you need, Max will be home very shortly and if this is something you don't wish for him to know then, you'd better hurry."  Kiara told him, a brow beginning to rise.

"Very well.  I wanted to let you know why, I was sent to you.  Why, so many years ago, I hated the very sight of you."  Moloch paused and began to pace the room, his hands clasped behind his back.  "I, was supposed to be your Guardian Angel Kiara, but I refused to become an angel, I had a lust for the chaos inside of humanity and was then given a different task.  They gave guardianship to Evan in my stead.  Don't blame him for his actions; he's still very young.  I made a mistake when I denied you.  I was reborn as your keeper, instead of your angel."  He laughed sarcastically.  "A demons keeper, imagine that.  I was angry with you for being what you were.  I know it was not your fault, but still, I was angry because even though I wanted nothing to do with what was going on in the mortal world, I was still to be bound to it by a girl who had no clue as to who she was and no one would tell her. I want to help you now though.  I don't want to see the Devil walk the earth any more than the rest of humanity.  With Evan now gone from your side, I have taken up his position, my rightful place.  Trust me Kiara, having a Demon as your guardian will not be too pleasurable, but at the very least, you know now, that you and that angry husband of yours, will not be alone."  He finished, taking a roll from the table and eating it.

"You, my guardian but doesn't that put a bit of a damper on your task?  I mean you vowed to kill me if I turned..."

"Yes, I did, but it seems that even that has been stripped away form me by, them."  His lips curled with distaste for those over him.  "It won't be my task if you do indeed turn, and that brings me to the point that Max doesn't need to know yet.  He will be the one charged to kill you if you marry the Devil and turn on the world you are charged to keep safe.  Max, will be the one to kill you Kiara."

Kiara gasped.

"No. They can't do that to him."  Then she went silent as Max walked into the dining room.

"Moloch."  He nodded.

"Max.  Good evening, I trust your day was well.  I hope you are hungry as it seems Kiara has made you a wonderful meal."  Moloch greeted formally.

Diner was more stressful than ever.  After explaining Moloch's new place, Max was more than a little angry to find that the one being that had almost killed him so easily, had become Kiara's guardian, Max was quiet.

"So, what about Evan then?  Will we ever see him again?"  Kiara asked, despite the knowledge that she was sure, Max didn't care.

"Yes Kiara, you will meet him again but be assured, that the next time you meet him, he will not be happy to see you.  He's more Demon now than angel, his fathers power had proved too much for him, and what with his sins as an angel, falling in love with a human, his human, it really wasn't too hard for his father to take control over him." Moloch answered.

"Then what I don't get, Moloch, is that if you are to be her new guardian, who's charged with seeing to it that she doesn't change, or rather, what if she does?"  Max asked finally breaking his silence.

"That is something that you will find out in time Max Johnson.  As for who is charged with keeping her as she is?  That remains the same.  It, as always, is you.  You must keep her form turning, even now; Draco wonders the plains of fire to retrieve the Soulstone.  You know that when he does, and he will posses it, he will waste no time seeking you out and bring you to his hold."  Moloch finished, looking at Kiara with a strange sort of look.

Max looked between them, he knew there was more to what he was told but he figured, as Kiara had figured many times before, he'd find out soon enough, So, instead of pushing the point he smiled at the two of them.

"Want a drink Moloch?"  Max asked, referring of course to an alcoholic drink.

"Certainly Max, thanks."  Moloch answered.
Kiara shook her head and left the two of them to talk.  She had too many things on her mind to even care about two, supposed enemies, getting drunk together in her house.

She stepped out side and looked up into the stars again, gazing at what she once longed for.

"Why do things change so quickly?"  She asked to no one in particular.

"Because life moves on rather we want it to or not Kiara, that's why." A voice answered her, but she didn't know who it was and let it go unanswered, right now, she didn't care.

LOOKS that way hun.  But that is ok with me.  So long as I have atleast one reader, that is all that matters.  :-*

RETIEVAL OF THE SOULSTONE

Draco walked along the fiery plain.  The phoenix home was hot and full of surprises.  Not the kind of surprises one welcomed but instead, the ones that nearly loose your life for you.

Draco's robes were torn and burnt, his normally neat blonde hair in great disarray and he had several burns on his hands and cheeks.  In all, he looked quite the sight but he continued on, his desire to control something in his life was great.  He wanted to just once prove that his father had been wrong about him and the rest of the Wizarding community as well.

All his life, people saw him as the spoiled little brat of Lucius Malfoy.  Little did they know the truth of the matter and little was his desire to let it be known.

For the first 15 years of his life, Draco had only one problem.  That was the constant beating and other wise abusive nature of his father because it seemed that he, Draco, couldn't do anything right in his eyes.  Then, during the summer just before his fifth year at Hogwarts, she showed up.

Kiara, the daughter of the Dark Lord seemed to be able to do no wrong in his fathers' eyes, at first.  Then, he was promised a high position as the Dark Lord promised her hand to him.  That lasted almost a whole month, then Max stepped in, how he hated the very thought of his name.  Max Johnson had stolen his one chance at becoming what had been promised him.  That, was the one thing he had to do now, show them all, show them that he could best Max at something and that something just happened to be Kiara.  He would have to make her his, one way or another.

So, as he trudged along the fiery path, he cursed the name of Max to every extent, knowing that no matter what happened on his way to find the stone, even if it meant his death, he would find it.

Draco jumped aside as yet another fountain of flames arose from the ground.  This one just barley missed him and did, catch the hem of his robe alight.  Draco cursed then pointed his wand at the burning robe and muttered a freeze spell; the fire went out.

"Where in the bloody HELL is that stupid stone."  He growled as he continued on.

He had been wondering now for a week.  He had checked every nook and cranny and every phoenix nest he came across; that was the cause of most his facial burns.  Evidently, the phoenixes did not like to be disturbed.

"Kiara, where are you?"  He asked out loud.

Then, in answer to his question, a bright flame appeared right in front of him, inside, was a golden trinket box.

Draco shook his head.

"Figures."  He laughed.  "All I had do was call her and she'd show."

Draco walked around the flame, not wanting to put his hand into it and not sure exactly how to acquire, that which he sought.

Finally, after quite some thinking, he simply reached his hand into the bright flame.  To his relief, he was not burned.  He took a hold of the golden box and pulled it out of the flames.

This story leads up to the ideas in EVIL KIARA.  lol, you just be patient doll.  :-*

A triumphant grin spread over his face, his ghostly-blue eyes sparkled with joy as he opened the box and gazed, for the first time at the dark red stone, lying quietly inside.  He reached in and gently took the stone from its resting place, dropping the golden box to the ground and then closed his hand about its smooth surface, gently rubbing his fingers over it.

"Hello Kiara, it's been all to long, I can't wait, to see you again."  He said quietly, his normal devilish smirk, coming back to his face again.

Kiara sat up in bed, gasping for air, a horrified look about her.  She turned to Max and poked him awake.

"He has it."  She said quietly.

"Ok."  Max replied.

There really was nothing else he could say.  They both knew he'd retrieve the Soulstone sooner or later and now, they would just have to deal with it.

Little did they know however, Draco would have more power over Kiara than anyone previously possessing the stone.  He had found out how to use it to its full extent. But that is another story.

Ok, this one is finished, I have begun the new one, and will start posting it soon enough.  Thanks to my readers and hope you enjoyed.  The question here, is, what happens now?  I am sure that at least one of you will know a littel as to what will happen.  ;)
