Cory sat on her bed, in the dark, with the curtains shut. No one would look up here for her, would they?
She pulled back the curtain and reached to her bedside table for some parchment and a quill. Replacing the curtain, she now lay on her stomach. Using a book, she flattened out the parchment and then inked up her quill. This is what she wrote:
Dear Cassie,
I miss you. A lot. Hogwarts seems vacant without your huge laugh and your comforting company. The bed beside mine is perpetually made and it scared me. You never made yuor bed, and now that it is it just underlines that you're never coming back.
I love you and miss you,
Cory
She rolled up the letter and tied it with a length of pink ribbon, calling to her owl Nefertiti. Really, the owl had been Cassie's and was devasted when she died. She'd flown away that night and come back two weeks later. The owl had clung to Cory's shoulder, cutting her sharply, and had refused any food or water until Cory had taken her as her own.
Now, Cory held the letter out and Nfertiti placed it in her beak.
"It's for her, Nef," Cory said softly. The owl flew away, off into the darkness.
Ginny's laugh was heard out the window and she was tackled by one of her wolves. She rolled over and pinned it before standing an jumping around like an idiot.
"I win!" She cheered.
Cory rose abruptly.
"What was that?" she whispered to the empty bedroom.
"I win!" a voice shouted, along with cheerful barks and howls. It came from outside. Cory stuck her head out the tower window.
"Oy! You!" she screamed.
"I have a name, so don't expect me to answear to that!" Ginny calld back, rubbing the wolve's head.
"Well, what is it, then?!" asked Cory angrily. She did not want to deal with this girl right now.
Ginny's hand stilled on the wolves head and she looked at the girl leaning out the window.
"Don't take that tone." She said, just loud enough for Cory to hear.
"Tone? What tone? I'm not using a tone! I just came up here for some peace and there you are romping about with yuor wolfy friends," Cory raged.
Josh ran outside and next to Ginny."Whats going on?"He said with curiousity.Josh looked up at the girl in the window and then back at Ginny."Romeo and Juilet? The only problem is that your both girls."He smiled
"Shut up, Josh." Ginny said, smacking her younger brother in the forhead. She looked back up at the girl and raised an eyebrow.
"Really now? Now, if your so angry, come down and do something about it."
"I'm not about to fight you over some noise you're making. Just--just quiet down a bit, alright?" Cory asked, quietly as she could for someone was shouting. Her eyes stung with tears, and they dropped down to where the girl and her look-alike were standing.
"Hmmm"Josh was now watching them argue back and forth.
Ginny smiled, graciously.
"Now, see? That's all you had to do was ask. That wasn't so hard." She said, turning back to her wolf and petting him. He ran off into the forest and she sat down on the grass.
"Better?"
"Thanks," Cory said, and wiped at her teary eyes. "I'm sorry, it's just that-" Her throat constricted as she willed herself not to cry anymore.
Ginny smirked suddenly and snapped her fingers, transporting the girl so she was now in front of Ginny. She smiled.
"What are you sorry for? You asked, and that was all there is to it." She said, watching the girl.
"By the way, I'm Ginny Weasly."
"Hi, Ginny. My name's Cory," the girl said, free of the tears now. "And this is..." She motioned to the boy standing next to Ginny, looking thoughtful.
Ginny nodded, "My little brother Josh." She said, smiling.
"Cory, huh? What year are you in?"
"Fifth, what about you?" Cory asked. Now that their argument was overwith, she noticed this girl really was nice.
Ginny smiled.
"I'm supposed to be in sixth." She said, thinking then nodding to confirm the thought. Yeah, she was about sixteen, so yeah, the sixth would be about right. She smiled again.
"Supposed to be?" asked Cory curiously. Was she held back? Or did she just not go to school here?
She smiled.
"I quite school to become the Head of Student Affairs. I basically plan alot of the stupid junk that goes with you students, like school dances, who your roomates will be, and I keep files. Plus, I'm in charge of the forest." She laughed.
"Pretty good for a sixteen year old, huh?"
(mind if i hop in?)
then out of nowhere, some boy shouted, "OI!!!! PULEEEEZ keep it down!"
(Not all all, but don't ind my charactors meaness. It's how she is sometimes.)
"Oh make me, idiot." Ginny shouted back, scowling.
"Bugger, who was that?" Cory asked. Someone had shouted rather rudely (and not unlike herself) for them to be quiet. She looked around, searching for the source of the voice.
a head popped out of the boys dorms. "who's.....oh." he said, after he spotted ginny and cory."sorry ginny..." he said in a rather embarrased tone. "sorry i yelled, and who are you?" he said politely looking at cory. "i'd shake your hand, only we're hanging out windows that are more than 100 feet away, so it's not possible."
"I'm Cory Kiely. Me and my sis-- Nevermind," Cory corrected painfully. She was so used to pointing out Cassie by her side, and now that her sister wasn't here Cory wasn't quite sure how to deal with herself.
Bolt, who had a feeling what she wanted to say, but couldnt, said,"you have, or had, a sister, huh? what happened to her?"
"A good idea would be to not ask outright, and I hate it when people shout out windows, it's rude." She waved her hand, and Bolt too appeared on the grass with them.
"i guess your right, i shouldnt have asked that flat out. sorry....." :-[ he said more embarrassed than ever. Anyway, so you did have a sister then? and please dont say that it was rude,Ginny, i know." he said, now polite once more.
"I- Yeah. Yeah, I had a sister. She died a couple of months ago," Cory said quietly. "She was murdered in the shed behind our house. I found her." She found herself wiping her eyes once more, telling herself and her emotions not to cry in front of these people who barely knew her.
Ginny nodded, and saw the tears, but offered no words of comfert. She herself had delt with thousands of deaths, and though each one hurt deeply, she had taught herself to let it bounce off of her.
"It--Its ok. i had a brother. h--he, too was murdured." he said chokily. "he was my best brother, my best friend, and my best teacher." then Bolt stared at the ground, feeling down.
Ginny stood then, still not saying anything. Her face was covered by a shadow, so they couldn't see her expression. She walked away from them, then, just a few steps.
then bolt suddenly stopped crying. "can you bring me back up there? im going to go to bed. im really tired. unless you want me to stay, ill go."
She waved her hand, making him transport to his room. Other then that she didn't move.
"thanx" he said from the window. then he went to bed. but he couldnt sleep. since he had nothing too do, he went back to the window. "watever i kant sleep. pleeze get me back down there."
(my character has two minds, sorry)
(It's okay. ^-^!)
Ginny once again waved her hand, allowing him back on the grass. She began to walk towards the frest now.
"going somewhere?" bolt said after her.
She continued to walk, wrapping her arms around herself.
'Xaver...'she thought to herself, wondering what had happened to him. She hadn't seen him in a long while, and she couldn't tell where he was.
(oh goodness just leaving us here are you? not to offend you lilovo. where is she anyway, ginny?)
"ya thats nice of her. leave us in the cold." he said in a very sarcastic voice. 'oh crud.' he thought. 'now ginnys gonna get mad and....'*shudder*
(Her username is inactive, which means she probley deleted herself.)
(or she never really activated her account. :' thats sad, she just left us! without her, i guess this one is ver then, right?)
(I'm ba-ack. Sorry, thi guy was like stalking me, so I deleted myself.)
Cory had stood, dry-eyed, as the scene unfolded in front of her. She made no noise, no motion to sympathise with the boy. He'd lost someone, and Cory could tell Ginny had as well. The boy couldn't seem to make up his mind, whether he wanted to sleep on his greif or share it with the girls. Ginny was also retreating, so Cory didn't know what to do with herself.
(oh i see. ok. do u know his username? we could get him.)
"Ginny? are you just gonna leave us? rather rude. (gosh and you said i was rude ginny!) umm, so what are you doing next week? im not going to do anything cause well, i dont have any friends, except ginny, so, did you wanna hang out? not as a date, just as friends....."
(darkstar1024. I've reported him)
"Sure. I guess. That'd be cool! Oh, yeah, what's your name?" Cory asked and laughed. She was going to hang out with this guy and she didn't even know his name!
(Just ignore people like that. If you hide your e-mail and don't put up any MSN, AIM names or so forth, there's no way the can contact you. I get people all the time asking if I'm Bonnie Wright...)
Ginny ignored him, rather harshley. She was being rude, and she knew it, but being how she was she didn't care at the moment. She had to get away.
(well are you bonnie wright? jp.)
"oh im sorry. im bolt (i konw its a weird name, but i was tired and coulndnt think of anything else). and you are?"
"I'm Cory. I like your name, Bolt. It's very original." Cory smiled, and then her grin faded. "D'you know what's the matter with her?" She nodded at Ginny, who was now walking far in the distance. cory would have comforted her, but had a feeling there was nothing she could do.
"hang on, i'll be right back." then he half ran up to ginny. "hey whats up with you?" he asked, hiding his curiosity with concern.
She stopped and narrowed her eyes at him. She turned to face him, keeping her arms around herself. her eyes went dark, and she looked a bit annoyed.
"Nothing is wrong."
"look, i dont mean to be rude. its just that you like started to git wierd when we mentioned our dead relatives. and friends tell each other stuff. they help each other out." he looked genuinely concerned now.
"So? Ask around and see how many people I tell everything to. You'll be hard pressed to find people that I tell anything to." She said, narrowing her eyes again.
"ok then. ill see you around." then he turned heel and walked back to cory. "uhhh shes a bit mad right now...." then he tried to climb the wall to his dorm. but the only problem was, the tower was more than one hundred feet tall, so hed have some difficulty.
Cory watched the conversation--argument, really--go back and forth adn witnessed Bolt give up and jog back. She nodded at his words, and when he attempted at climbing the wall to the castle, she said, "Bugger, why don't you take the stairs?"
( hahaha)
"ummmm oh ya!" bolt said going red. "haha. i knew that."
"Oh, yes, and you were just testing me, right?" Cory asked with her friendliest smile. She's heard that before, from somewhere... But where?
Cassie. Cassie used to say that whenever she messed up. Gods, how Cory missed her sister.
Her eyes were once again full of tears. She wiped at them and they stopped welling up, almost as if on command. She smiled again.
He must think I'm insane...
"oh please dont...." bolt said as her eyes started to tear up. "oh please no..." oh whatever. cry it out girl."
"No, I'm okay. It's just...like, a random-type thing that happens. Like a spasm; some people twitch, I cry. It's because everything reminds me of her, you know?" Cory whispered the last part. She'd never told anyone that.
"oh ok. like.... nevermind. ok." and they proceeded to the castle steps toghether.
