When she opened her eyes form the blink she had started in the Ministry, she was now standing on the main road that ran through Hogsmead still holding his hand and though she was glad to be rid if the seclusion of her office and the sounds of the ones who's just recently frustrated her, she still did not smile.
"Thank you Max." She said quietly. "But I doubt they will ever truly trust me." She finished and then started walking along the road.
Max gave her a kiss. "I know..."He said."But they'll have to,"He said, looking rather determined.
Kiara closed her eyes slowly as his lips pressed against her cheek, feeling and welcoming his tender kiss that warmed her every time though still, it did not bring a smile to her lips. When she opened her eyes this time, they were shiny with tears being held back with determined force. "You can't make someone trust anyone..." She told him. "I will have to prove it, if they will allow me to." She replied taking a deep breath, holding it and then allowing it free slowly, making her tears draw back to where they came from.
Max held her."I know I can't help in every situation,"he said. "But that won't stop me from trying."he looked at her again.He brought her into the three broomsticks."My point is, you're all they've got."he continued.
Kiara took a deep breath just before they walked through the door and then growled slightly again. "Ya, well I know that and you know that but they won't listen to me, they still think that I am controlled, they think..." She bit her lip with her upper teeth and took another breath to steady herself, she didn't want to finish that sentence at all and so she didn't.
"I know you don't want to hear this,"He said, after he had ordered the butter beer."But maybe they'll have to learn the hard way,"He sat back down with the butter beer's. "I don't want it to happen that way, either..."He then sighed."Maybe we'll just have to deal with the problem ourselves."
Kiara say with him and looked over at him through quiet eyes. "No, I didn't want to hear that at all." She told him in a flat tone. "But maybe you are right, though I think that perhaps I am feeling so inclined at this moment to let the fools go chasing shadows and demons for a while before I decide to lend them a hand in ANY way." She finished with a slight spark of anger in her tone once more.
They really hurt her when they said as much to the point of trusting some outsider more than her own word and she was now slightly jaded as well as upset and becoming angrier the more she thought about it.
"They didn't listen to dumbledore either,"He continued. "If it's any consolation," He took a sip of butter beer, then opened hers. "So, they aren't inclined towards listening to reason,"
"No, no they didn't now did they." She remarked and then took a long drink form her butterbeer without even really noticing that he'd just opened it for her and then sat it back on the table with a loud clunk.
"Well...." She sighed then, looking back up at Max. "What then?"
"How about we send them in the 'Wrong' Direction?"he said. He took another sip."If you really want to send them to the right place." He then looked thoughtful."Could they even handle him?"
"Handle him?" Kiara actually laughed at that statement, though it was not a mirth-filled laugh but instead a very jaded and sarcastic one. "They couldn't handle him if he was tied up and hanging from the rafters of a house." She replied and then laughed that same laugh again. "Max, honestly think about it..." She said in a quiet voice. "I could barely handle him myself, and even now, he STILL grows stronger, he's got forces behind him now that feed his power and lust for destruction, no they can't handle him." She ended in all seriousness.
"exactly.So why on earth would they want to find him?"He asked."That would answer why they refused to believe you." He looked at her."Because they do..they know you're right."
"Ok, but then WHY on earth would they tell me that I was not to be trusted? How asinine and stupid are they?" She raised her voice.
"False bravado."he stated, and took another drink."Standing up to you is as close as they think can get."he sighed."I'm sorry they're doing this to you kiara, I really am..."
Kiara closed her eyes for a moment and took yet another deep breath, letting out slowly. :It's not your fault Max." She said in a small voice. "It just, well after everything I've done..." She kept her eyes closed. "It hurts... " She opened her eyes and allowed a tear to fall. "All I want to do is help and.. " She fell silent.
"I know..."he nodded."but they haven't been listening to either of us since my father fell ill."he sighed again."You know, they wouldn't tell me why they refused to listen to me, and now I know."
Kiara raised a brow at his comment. She hadn't known they refused to listen to Max too and once more that angry look began to creep into her emerald orbs as she sat there staring at her husband. "What are you talking about?
"It's all been paper work lately."he told her."At first I thought it was something else..." he sighed."Then they flat out told me they weren't sure they could trust me on field."
"RrreALY." She said dangerously. "So, just because..." She growled again, her emeralds eyes sparking instantly to life. It was one thing to put her down and treat her that way, but a whole new story when they were to begin to do the same to Max, now she was growing more and more angry again and this time, it was unlikely Max would do anything about it as her natural protection of him began to take over. "Not Trust you are they now..." The table began to shake.
"Kiara, you know I appreciate it,"he said, lightly."And I know you'd do anything for me..."he continued."but theres something else I need to tell you."
Kiara set her jaw and picked up her drink and brought it to her lips then swallowed hard and fast the remainder of its contents before settling the bottle back on the table with yet another loud clunk
"Go on..." She said with barely controlled anger
He looked down. "Its my father, Kiara."he said."He's not getting any better."he then took a deep breath,"And they're not sure he will."
Kiara was totally silent for several long moments after Max's statement before she slid over to his side and put an arm around his shoulder. "They are wrong, he will get better Max, he has to..." She said though she knew that the Doctors of the wizard's hospital were seldom wrong when they made a statement like that.
Her voice moved on again to soothing and warm, holding in it a bit f hope though, despite the rising fact that Max was more than likely going to loose his father, as well, she the only real father figure she'd ever loved.
Kiara kissed him on the forehead and then lifted his chin with her index finger so that she could look into those icy orbs of his. "I love you." She told him and then laid his head on her shoulder, wrapping her arms around him. "What do they even think caused it?" She asked, she had been so busy discussing her own father with the Ministry who, perhaps had been keeping her busy on it on purpose that she had not known what the doctors had been searching for in Max's father, the current Minister of Magic.
"They're not sure." he answered."He wants me to take over, Kiara."he looked at her."He told me he'd be sure of it."
Kiara stalled for a few moments before she answered him. "And that means, he ... how?" she asked
"I don't know."he said simply."If I did, I'd tell you."He sighed."I'm not sure if I'm ready...I was hoping to have him alive if I ever did take over."
"Max, you're ready if anyone is ready, you are." She told him in all honesty. "Your dad is on to something here, and he KNOWS that they will never listen to you o rme for that matter if someone else gets that position." She continued. "Besides, you want some jerk in office that is too scared to jump?" SHE finished.
"I just..."he looked overwhelmed."what if my dad can't do it?" he looked at her. "people have been campaigning for the last year."he looked down again.He wasn't his usual confident self."They might cry foul play if i become minister so suddenly."
Kiara sighed and then kissed his forehead lightly. "Max, the PEOPLE would be happy if you were to take your fathers place, the only ones who might be displeased are those who are trying to take over a position they are no where NEAR equipped for." She told him in all honesty. "Really, take a look around you my love, see the looks on all the faces, the concern for what they don't know, the lost expressions... you are the only one who would handle bringing my father to justice, anyone else would simply continue blocking my way to him, as well, procrastinating to do anything about his lackeys due to their fear of failure. The people KNOW who we are, they KNOW who you are and they KNOW you will get things taken care of in a much swifter fashion than the rest." She finished and took a breath. "As far as your father not being able to do it... we could start right now if you want, we can start asking these people in this place what they think." She told him and straightened up, her emerald eyes poised on his own icy orbs.
Max smiled."You are amazing, you know that?"he shook his head a bit. "alright..you're right I'll try."he kissed her again.
Kiara smiled back, though it was a sincere enough smile, the times were still grave and there would be a battle to win and they both knew it. She knew that the Ministry would fight against his taking over, or at least the paid ones would out of fear for seeing their fat coin purses grow thinner. They had to develop a plan to make the others stand up for what was right a plan to bring around those held down because of the fear of loosing would bring them to their own knees, good honest people who's lives would depend on them winning, the ones who stood to loose it all.
"I know dear." She told him in response to his telling she was amazing. "But only because I have you to hold me together." She finished and smiled again.
