It was a warm day out and Nellie was laying there in the grass. She didn't know what else to do today. So she thought she would waste time and do nothing. One thing was that she didn't know anybody at this school, and it was a nice day out. She started to feel her skin getting red from the sun. A sun burn. She didn't mind. She laid there with her eyes closed. Not thinking. Nothing. She was doing nothing. But breathing. That was one thing she had to do. Or did she? She started to hold her breath. As she did her face started to turn a light shade of pink and then from pink to red. From red to purple. She let the air out and her face turned back to the normal color again.
She laid there as the time moved on. So fast to her. She opened her eyes and looked up at the sky. Wondering, wondering about things that would happen tomorrow, a week, okay a month. If anything would change. Would she get new friends? Would she get any friends at the matter? She didn't know.
She shut her eyes again and then began to softly sing.
Six o'clock in the morning here and its atfer dark for now I'm waiting for the moment she said you would come around. And I am feeling sorrow for all the things you had to Steal and borrow bring back the days we had before tomarrow relapse and the collapse into yourself once now.
She sang soft. That is one thing she loved to do, and she didn't have a bad voice. A very good on at that.
"You sing well." From about five feet away stood a small, dark haired boy. His ice blue eyes were watching her with intelligence far surpassing his perhaps five years of age. The way he held his body, the way he looked, it gave a creepy sense about him.
But then his features shifted, into an adorable baby smile, and he tilted his head to the side.
"My mom likes to sing too. But she won't do it when other people are around." He told her, taking a small step towards her.
The child wore jeans and a navy blue t-shirt. He appeared normal, except for the way his eyes seemed to take in everything around them. As well as the fact that for a kid just out of toddler hood, he spoke amazingly well. He bent at the waist, a sort of bow towards her, as a way of greeting.
"My apologies Signora, had you not wanted anyone to hear, but I am drawn to music. I like it."
Alex decided to rest under the peaceful shade of the trees. He approached a tree when he heard two unfamiliar voices.
Nellie opend her eyes and looked at the small child standing there. She started to get scared because he just came out of nowhere. But she clamed herself.
She opend her mouth but nothing came out. She shook off the nervous thought.
"Thank you."she said to the boy.
She looked back at him and got a better glance at him. Was he really a little boy? He spoke amazingly well. But once he smiled she could guess that he was a little boy. She had to smile back, and she did.
She sat up and looked around then back at him.
"Oh, no, no it is fine. I don't care if people hear me, and I to am drawn to music. I bet your mom as a very lovely voice."she said to him and smiled.
"I am Nellie Ann Brookehart. Nice to meet you"she said to him.
The black haired child smiled, bowing again, "My mother does indeed have a beautiful voice."
He paused, and then nodded at her, "I am Xexes Xian, but I prefer being called Cody, if you don't mind." He smiled again, slipping his hands into his pockets and studying her intently.
"What year are you in?" He asked after a moment.
He smiled to himself seeing that it was little Cody and another new girl he had never met before. He tried to hide in the darkness of the shadow and rest for awhile.
Nellie smiled back at him and and crossed her legs.
She looked at him then at the forest she thought she heard something in the wind. Was someone out there? Watching them? She didn't know. But hoped if someone was out there they would come out. She didn't like the feeling that someone was watching her. She didn't like that feeling. To Nellie it was creepy.
She shook it off and then looked back at the boy, "Then Cody it is."she said to him and smiled once more.
The was a short but then again long pause.
But Cody broke the silence, "Oh I am in my 5th year at Hogwarts."she said to him.
Cody nodded, looking up at the sky, rocking back on his heels. He seemed to be thinking deeply. he was silent, not moving as he looked up.
Then, quietly, "What house?"
He looked back at Nellie, tilting his head slightly. His smile was gone, but his facial expression was not harsh. He was simply not smiling.
Nellie looked at the forest again, being in a daze. Her eyes and mind far off on somthing in the distance.
She looked back at him and smiled again. She always had a smile on her face.
"Oh Griffindor."she said to him.
Cody looked towards the forest, noticing how she kept looking that way. He too felt that someone was watching, but the difference was that he didn't care.
He was used to being watched.
He nodded again, "That's where my mom was when she was in school. Her whole family's been in Gryffindor." he told Nellie. He was quiet for another moment.
Then he sat down, facing her and smiled.
"Do you know my mom?" He asked, "She's a teacher here."
She looked at him and smiled, "My hole family has been in Gryffindor to"she said to him with a smile smile this time.
She sat though the quiet moment again. She was use to people being quite. She didn't mind. That is all she heard at home anyways.
"Thats why I thought I have seen you before. Its your mother Ginny?"she said to him.
Cody smiled, nodding his head, "Yes." His eyes lit up, "I'm surprised you knew that. I don't look like my mom at all." He shook his head for emphasis.
"My dad's genetics simply overpowered hers for the most part." He shrugged, as if it was to be expected.
He leaned forward, "Have you taken my mother's class?" He asked with interest, "Not many students have, but I would recommend all do."
Cody suddenly flopped backwards, folding his arms behind his head and closing his eyes even as he continued speaking. His black hair fluttered around as the gentle wind blew.
"Signora, do you realize that not everything is as it seems here at Hogwarts?"
She looked at him and smiled, "Well then it was a lucky guess."she said to him and laughed a bit.
She looked back at him and smiled, "I don't look like my mom or dad. So I say you are lucky to look like one of your parents"
She looked back at him, "I do think I have. She is a very good teacher. But I haven't taken one for awhile, I will have to go back very soon."she said to him and smiled again.
She looked at him, "I have realized that."she said to him with a nod.
"What I mean, Signora, is that on such a nice day as today, bad things are usually taking place. People who seem nice when you fist meet them are sometimes rather cruel. And children are not always simple children."
He spoke quietly, his eyes still closed, and didn't move otherwise. Then he opened one eye, looking at her with ice blue sharpness.
Cody's eyes held an intelligence that seemed higher than most adults. He seemed to know what her answers would be, not because of telepathy, but because he had figured out what her answers were likely to be. He was a genius, by all definitions.
She looked at him and nodded once more, "Oh I see what you mean."she said to him.
She looked up to the sky and watched as the sun really started to shine. Sun. That was all she needed a bigger burn. Great she thought. But she didn't mind.
She started to draw in the dirt. Rather good to. It wasn't the comman paper and pen, but just as good. She was just doodleling something she alwasy did, along with singing.
She chould really draw anything.
Cody watched her draw in the dirt, his interest high. He loved drawings. Miss Sarah and Miss Sky had drawn pictures for him before, and he had them pasted up around his room. Nellie wasn't bad at drawing either.
Cody himself could do no more than draw a stick figure.
He'd never really tried, though.
Just as he was about to sit up, though, a shadow fell over the two of them, and he turned his head to see his mother. Ginny stood about five feet away, watching the two of them with a small smile. She nodded at Nellie, "I'm sorry if my son has been bothering you." She said, shaking her head of bright red hair.
"He loves to know the students, though."
Nellie looked up at the now person standing behind them. She smiled sofly, "Oh no he hasn't been bothering me."she said to her and smiled once more.
She new the face in an instant. It was Ginny. Well she looked back down at her drawing and then back to Cody then to Ginny. She didn't know what to say. Was it past hours? She might of forgot what time it as she had been there for a very long time.
She looked back at Ginny and smiled once more, "It is good to talk to someone."she said with a nod.
Ginny smiled, and surprisingly sat down, next to her son. She reached over, smoothing his black hair as she folded her jeans legs beneath her.
"That's good. He can be a bit annoying sometimes." She teased Cody gently, only as a mother can do.
"Hey!" Cody half yelled, looking at his mom and pouting. Ginny simply laughed, and nodded at Nellie.
"Don't worry. You aren't in any trouble." She told the girl with another smile.
She looked at her and Cody and smiled. She sofly laughed along with the voices her heard in the air and around her.
She looked up at the sky then at Ginny, "I am Nellie Brookehart."she said to her.
She looked back at her as she said she wasn't in trouble, "Oh!, that is good. Thank you."she said to her.
Ginny shook her head, still smiling, "Don't thank me. You have done nothing wrong." Absently, she reached out, touching her sons hair once more, a thoughtful expression upon her face. Though her actual thoughts were guarded and hidden, woven beneath an impenetrable blanket that was the top most layer of her mind.
On the oppesite side of the spectrum was little Cody, his thoughts open and honest, his feelings true to the color. Anyone with the power to see auras would see an exciting blue green pulsing from him, a sure sign of peaceful playfulness. He seemed content, not overly excited. His eyes narrowed as his mother rubbed his head, and then sudden;ly he jumped up.
"Momma! Watch this!"
And before Ginny, or Nellie, could say a word, he began to sprint. He did a flip, landing on his hands and pushing off, his feet spiraling into the air as he twirled. Just as it seemed he would land on his face, great black wings appeared from his back, unfurling and catching the air so his body evened out. Instead of gliding down, he beat them once, twice, and zoomed off, straight up. He seemed almost like a gymnast, the speed and grace of which he moved were natural, not trained.
His instincts.
Once high up, he circled the area, and then dove down, landing at a run and doing a somersault to keep from stopping too abruptly. He managed to land just in front of Nellie, where he stood and smiled. He swept into a low bow, his wings spreading out as he did so, catching in the sunlight to show of the tints of red the black feathers held.
Before Cody did so Nellie answerd Ginny, "Oh."she said to her glad.
She watched Cody in awe. Wow. Was all she coould think. Her mouth hung open and all she got out was a 'Whoa'. What he did with the flying and fliping was amazing. She had never seen anything like it before, and his wings. They were beuaitful. She saw some of the red. With the sun giveing off the right amout of light, and the way Cody was. The picture was in her head now, and whould never go away. Now she wanted to draw it. She saw it so now she wanted to draw it.
Maybe later though. She thought.
"Whoa."she said once more.
Cody grinned, and in a soft voice he spoke. His words were carefully spoken, as he was still in a half bow, "Xerxes Codium Xian, Fallen Prince." He spoke his unofficial title with a huge grin, giving his mom a sideways glance.
Ginny simply pursed her lips and shook her head. He had gained many of her tendencies, and apparently grandstanding was one of them. Though, his father had a flair for showing off as well.
They had all rights, however. The family was not only attractive to they eye, they were powerful. Physically, mentally. Emotionally.
Cody's wings folded as he stood straight, and he winked at Nellie.
"Was that good?" He asked her, his cheeks flushed pink from the exercise.
She was looking at Cody but her hand was gliding across a pieces of paper. She was drawing what she just saw, and was doing it really good. That was one talent she was very good at.
He winked and she just laughed normally. She looked back at him and smiled, "That was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life!"she said to him and laughed once more. Her and still drawing.
Cody grinned, "Good." He told her, nodding as he said it. "Though I need to work on my landing...I don't like somersaulting." He shrugged.
Ginny shook her head, "You are such a show off, angel." She told him, her voice full of affection as she said it.
She smiled at them, "It looked fine to me, but then whatever you think is what you need, or something like that my mom use to say to me."she said with smiled a little.
Cody nodded, "The somersault uses too much energy...I don't want to over exert myself."
He sat down, plopping onto his backside with a "oomph".
Ginny shook her head, "For all his powers, all his graces, he's still a child when it comes down to it." She chuckled at the look Cody shot her.
He folded his arms, as though pouting, but the truth was he didn't mind.
She nodded at him, "I know what you mean. I use to tumble."she said to him.
She crossed her legs and looked at them.
She saw Codys face and laughed a little bit.
