"So now what?" Seth whispered to himself as he stared out the common room window. He wore a black sweater that seemed to show just how muscular he was. He had his sleeves rolled up and his jeans had holes in them. He sighed. There was a blizzard outside and there was nothing to do. Students weren't permitted outside during this strange weather for fear they might get sick or disappear. The forest is most dangerous during a blizzard. He leaned against the windowsill and put his face against the window, ignoring the cold chill.
Stacey skipped into the common room, a huge smile on her face. "Hey, Seth." She greeted casualy. She walked over to him. "Chocolate?" She asked, holding up an unopened piece of white chocolate. Her light brown hair had snow in it, bt it was quickly melting. She shrugged of her coat, still holding out the offered piece of chocolate out.
Seth looked at her, his face still stuck on the window. He smiled a little. "Thanks." He said and gratefully took the piece of chocolate. White was his favorite. He took a small bite and grinned. "Mmm...my favorite." He sat up and leaned against the window, his back against it. "So what are you up to?" He asked her.
Stacey giggled and shoved a small piece of white chocolate in her mouth. "Hmm, nothin` much." She answered. She sat on the window ledge, her long legs easily reaching the ground. Her right hand shook slightly from all the sugar in her system. She began to tap her foot quickly. She couldn`t help it, her body was full of energy. "It`s a killer out there." She said, refering to the weater outside. "Almost made me drop the candy..." Her voice trailed off thoughtfully.
Seth smirked and ran a hand through his ever growing brown hair. "Yeah. I'm thinking about sneaking out." He said thoughtfully. "I need out of this bloody castle or I'll go insane with boredom."
Stacey gave him a serious look. "I wouldn`t try that if I were you. The wind `bout pushes you against the ground." She raised an eyebrow. "Unless you know the way, of course." Her voice indicated she knew more than she was saying.
He laughed lightly. "Oh I know hundreds of ways around this school. I'm a wolf. I track scents." He finished his chocolate with a quick bire, showing his canines.
Stacey smiled, but the smile wasn`t merry, it was challenging. She liked Seth, he was like a brother she wanted to compete against. She pulled two two-foot daggers from her waist and modeled them for him. Her eyes were bright green with mischeif.
"Daggers." Seth said simply. He glanced at them and then walked upstairs to his room. He then returned after a moment with a four foot long sword that was wrapped in a black sort of ribbon. "My heritage." He said with another small smile.
Stacey nodded. She made her eyes the darkest black as she threw the daggeres into the floor. Their sharp points stuck in the stone floor, making them stay upright. She pulled two normal daggers, a jaged dagger, and seven Blink-Blades out. She stuck all of them but the tiny Blink-Blades into the floor.
Blink-Blades were short blades with no handles. They were deadly sharp, though they didn`t look it.
She looked at Seth with her head tilted, wondering what he would say. She set the Blink-Blades on the window sill beside her.
He set the sword next to the dagger, comparing them. He ran his finger tips along the dagger, slicing his finger and watching the blood drip slowly to the floor. "Two fatal weapons different in size. I wonder which is more deadly?" Seth said. He looked at Stacey, his emerald green eyes bright.
Stacey smiled, he eyes shoting bright blue. "The weapons may not matter, mabey it`s the person using them." She suggested playfully. She scooped up the seven Blink-Blades and threw them one-by-one to the wall. One all of them left her palm, a star pattern no bigger than someone`s hand was drawn in blades. She turned back to Seth.
"Perhaps." Said Seth. He looked out the window again, putting his hand against the glass. This girl made him curious.
Stacey tilted her head. "What?" She asked, her eyes becomeing a curious shade of purple. She suddenly wanted to kow how old Seth was, she didn`t know why, but she aslo suddenly felt embarassed to ask him.
Seth smiled. "Nothing. You just...intrigue me a little is all." He looked out the window still.
Stacey felt blush rising in her cheeks. she looked at the ground for a moment, still somehow scared of asking how old he was. "Intrigue yu how?" She asked curiuosly.
He shrugged. "You seem intelligent. And you also seem like an adventure girl. I don't see girls like that everyday." He laughed. So many stupid girls who prefer make up over adventure in this school.
Stacey smiled as she started putting her knives away. She shrugged. "The only reason I got these is becasue I`ve been attacked to many times," She explained, "I`ve been kidnapped four times in this forest alone." She slid the last dagger in it`s sheath. You couldn`t see any sign of the knives now, not even in her jeans, where six blades were kept.
"I see..." Seth nodded. "Say, what year are you in anyway?" He asked. She seemed pretty tough and looked sort of young.
"Fifth," Stacey answered automatically. "You?" She asked, glad she finally had an excuse to get his age.
"I too am a fifth year." He said. Of course... he didn't look like a fifteen year old. He looked more like a twenty two year old. He was very tall and muscular and his voice already very deep with..well...you know.
((lol))
Stacey smiled. "Cool." She said softly. She looked down at her right hand as she sat in the window again. The silver ring glowed in the faint light. Her smile bacame more loving as memories of past days flooded her mind.
Seth looked at her hand. "That's a very pretty ring." He said to her gently. "Is it a gift?"
Stacey twisted the plain silver ring around her finger. "No, I made I actually." She explained. She knew the ring was just a plain silver band, the bast thing about it was the way it shone in dim lighting; Seth was probably just being kind when he said it was very pretty.
"Well you did a nice job. But it needs something." He thought for a moment. "I have just the thing. But you'll have to wait until I make a trip to Gringotts to receive it." He said.
Stacey looked up to Seth. "Seth... I can`t, I... I gave an identical ring to someone, my... friend." She said. She bit her lips, scared for what he might say.
"Very well." Said Seth. He smiled at her. It didn't really bother him. It was just an offer. Nothing more. He put his forehead to the window.
Stacey sighed softly; this had happened too many times. "I`m sorry." She whispered, she seemed to be saying that a lot lately. She pressed her back against the cold glass in the window.
He looked at her suddenly. "No no no. Don't be sorry. You didn't do anything." He gave her an assuring smile. "Just ignore what I said earlier." He laughed. "Do you like pie?"
Stacey was still unsure, this had happened to her before, and none of them turned out quite like this. "Um, yea, I guess." She said slowly. She felt her eyes turn grey; she hoped he wold`t notice.
"Good." Said Seth. "Pie makes the world a better place in my opinion." He crossed his arms. "Well I hate to have to leave, but my Potions class is in ten minutes, so I have to get going." He took out his wand and tapped his sword, sending it on it's way. He looked at her thoughtfully.
"It was nice to see you again.." He said before he exited.
Stacey nodded and watched him go, she waited until he was almost to the door. "Hey, do you want to hang out with me, and a couple of my friends?" She asked shyly. "Friday night?" She chewed her bottom lip as she waited for a reply. "We`ll be at the Three Broomsticks, Jason, Alice, and I. It`s an open invitation." With that she disappeared, glad that there was a vampire upstairs allowing her to use their powers to escape qickly. She hoped she would see him Friday night.
Seth was about to answer, but in a dash...she was gone. He glanced around the common room. She wasn't anywhere to be found. He shrugged and walked outside. He'd tell her yes the next time he saw her. It's nice to make some new friends.
On Friday night, Stacey hurridly made her way to the Three Broomsticks. Alice and Jason were already there, waiting for her, she just hoped Seth wasn`t there yet.
She burst through the door wearing a long-sleeved red shirt with tiny black penguins al over it. In addition to her silver ring that she never took off, she had a silver shain around her neck. There was some kind of charm on it, but it was hidden under the edge of her shirt.
She sighed with relief when she saw that he wasn`t there yet. Alice and Jason sat across from each other; they didn`t really know each other that well, but they were friends. Alice was wearing a metalic silver shirt and jeans with a black jacket. Jason was wearing just jeans and a long-sleeved tee shirt. Stacey went over to sit by them. Alice had a botle of red liquid in her hand, but her eyes were almost black.
"Hey guys," She greeted quietly, too nervous to say more.
"I apologize for being late." Seth said as he walked up to the table. He was dressed in a charcoal black hoodie and torn dark blue jeans. His hair was messy, but it looked good the way it was. He looked at Stacey. "Hello Miss Stacey." He said with a friendly smile. He turned and held out a hand to the strangers. "Hi. I'm Seth."
Stacey smiled as Seth came in. Alice smild too making sure her soft black hair covered her eyes. Jason took Seth`s hand and shook it. "Jason, Alice." He said, tiltng his head to her as he spoke.
"Why don`t you sit down?" Stacey offered, immediatly sitting down by Jason.
Seth quietly took a seat on a chair and looked down at the table. He noticed various carvings in the table from immature students. The restaurant felt warm, so he pulled off his hoodie, revealing a white t-shirt that seem to sculpt out the muscles on his torso.
Stacey bit her lips and looked away as Seth took his jacket off.
Alice turned towards Seth to say something. Her eyes got blacker and she turned away. She quickly put her hand over her nose and mouth. "Excuse me." She whispered and she was gone; she had used her vampire powers to jump over the group.
"So," Stacey said, "I guess I`m the only one here who can`t technically read minds."
"I can't read minds." Spoke Seth quietly. He smiled a little and pulled a black string from his shirt, dropping it to the floor. "I must say, I'm glad I can't."
Stacey smiled. "Lucky you."
Alice was sitting at the bar as far away from Seth as possible. She was choking down a bottle of bright red liquid; blood.
Jason sat next to Stacey, but slightly leaned away from her. "So, what year are you?" He asked Seth, sizing himself up to the boy.
"Fifth year." He replied in the same quiet tone. "Yourself?" Seth looked from him and then to Stacey, giving her another small smile. He felt a little awkward here, but he wouldn't let her see it.
Stacey smiled back to Seth and quickly looked down at the table.
"Seventh." Jason said in a satisfied tone. His dark eyes shone with happiness.
Stacey started to twist her ring around her finger, a habit she had started recently when she got nervous. Her eyes were bright pink, if that wasn`t bad enough.
Seth nodded. "You'll be sad after this year, I presume?" He couldn't help but notice Stacey's eyes as he talked. Pink. They looked nice.
Jason pondered a moment, knowing this kid didn`t know what he was. "Yea, I`ll be sad to go." He said quietly. Right on cue, his right hand flew to his left arm. He clutched it there, then Stacey stood up, he left quickly, going over to the bartender for ice.
Stacey cleared her throat as she sat down. "He`s a Death Eater." She mouthed, not wanting to say the words out loud. Her eyes were now hot pink and she shook her bangs into her face to cover them.
"Oh..." Seth mouthed back. He studied her for a moment. "Are you alright? You seem...strange. Could I get you something?" He offered as he felt slightly worried about her. She was hanging around with a death eater for goodness sakes!
Stacey looked up to him. "No, I`m fine. He`s not an active one, he`s a spy." She explained, sensing his double meaning. "Besides, have I not proved to you that I can take care of myself?" She asked, flashing a Blink-Blade before quickly puting it back up her sleeve.
Seth simply smiled and looked out the window, his leg bouncing up and down in a cadence.
((Could you rephrase that please?))
((HAHA. Sorry. HE...))
(( =] ))
Stacey listened as she heard Seth tap his foot. "Just out of curiosity, what did you mean yesterday when you said something about my ring?" She asked shyly.
Seth looked over, taken out of his trance. "What? Oh, about saying it needed something?"
Stacey nodded slowly and bit her lip. She felt her cheeks turn bright with blush. At least her eyes couldn`t get any pinker...
He pulled a small sapphire from his pocket and held it out to her. It sparkled as the light reflected off it from the window, a blue light on the wall. "I just thought this would go with it. It would certainly compliment your ever changing eyes." He looked at her eyes, figuring out that she was very nervous. "This was my great grandmothers. I have no use for it, so I figured that I might as well give it away to someone worthy..."
Stacey stared at the sapphire. "Seth, I could never... I`m so sorry I made you think that..." Her voice trailed off as she tore her eyes from the beautiful gemstone. " couldn`t ever hurt Aiden like that again, it wold kill me." She explained lovingly as she remembered that apinful time that was only about a month ago.
"I understand. And I knew you'd still say no." He pulled a chain from his pocket and his wand. He poked it at the Sapphire to make a small hole through it and stuck the chain through. He handed her the chain, silver, and smiled. "You don't have to wear it, but I want you to have it."
Stacey shook her head. "Seth, I can`t. I love Aiden. Taking it will make me feel like I`m cheating on him." She saod softly and sincerely. "It really is a beautiful stone, you should keep it for someone special." Her eyes changed to soft grey.
Seth couldn't help it, but he felt a knot in his stomach. "You are special. Not like that...okay?" But in their conversations, Seth had felt kind of attracted to her. He wanted to know her more. She was, indeed, special. He reluctantly took the chain and put it in his pocket. "I have to get going. It was a pleasure to meet your friends." He said, a small back on his face. He slipped on his hoodie and got up from his seat.
Stacey looked down at the table and covered her face with her hands to hide the tears.
Before Seth could leave, Alice blocked him from the door. Her eyes were now their normal, bright reflective blue. "Hey, sorry about that earlier. I hadn`t fed in a while. I`m Alice." She said cheerfully holding out her hand. She had heard his and Stacey`s conversation, but she didn`t tell him that.
Seth held out his hand, surprised that she had appeared so quickly. "Um..hello Alice." He said. "I'm sorry, but I have to go...I-have something going on." He lied.
Alice shook Seth`s hand slowly. "No you don`t." She said. "I`m a vampire, remember?" She didn`t know if he knew that or not, but he would now. "Please, don`t go. We can leave here if you want." She said, her eyes flickering to Stacey. "But I would really like to talk to you." She added, turning the full force of her eyes upon him.
Seth sighed. "Okay. Let's talk." He said to her, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Alice nodded and lead him outside. "How old do you think I am?" She asked curiously.
Seth followed her outside, the cold, bitter wind nipping at his face. He didn't mind it though. It appeared to be snowing. Small flakes of snow flew into his and Alice' hair, some melting right away. He listened as she asked him a question.
"How old do you think I am?"
Seth looked at her, thinking about his answer. She was a Vampire. She said earlier that she hadn't fed in awhile. So he shrugged. "I dunno. 672?" He guessed.
Aice laughed. "Close 203." She said smiling. The cold and snow didn`t bother her, she barely felt it. Her body hadn`t really felt heat or cold in two centuries. "Are you afraid I might eat you?" She asked, her voice slightly teasing. She swung her arms at her sides.
Seth chuckled. "No. I trust you." He said, shifting his weight on his legs to keep warm.
Alice smiled. The snow in her hair was now more unmelted than melted. "Ask me anything." She said agter a thoughtful moment. Her bright reflective blue eyes glittered as she looked up to him and they caught the moon.
"How about you ask me something?" Said Seth with smile. He didn't notice the unmelted snow in her hair, but he noticed her eyes. Her very pretty blue eyes. Like sapphires.
Alice tilted her head. "I`ve asked you enough questions, you ask one. Anything." She figured he would ask something about her diet or history or something.
Seth put his hand to his chin, thinking. "Hmm." He hummed in concentration. He grinned and looked back at her. "Do you like the sky better when you can see the clouds or the stars?"
"Definatly the stars." Alice answered immediatly. She loved to stare out into space, identifing the stars and constelations.
Seth nodded. "I'm a 50-50 guy. So now ask me something." He said.
Alice thought for a short moment, her eyes glittering furiously. "Chocolate or vanilla?" She said with a crooked smile.
"Chocolate." He said before she could finish. "Definitely Chocolate." He laughed lightly and ran his fingers through his hair.
Alice smiled. "Me too. your turn." She responded.
"Why the random interest in talking to me?" He asked quietly. "I'm nobody."
Alice shrugged. "I`ve been alive for two centuries. It takes a lot to surprise me, and Seth, you have surprised me." She said softly, inching towards her shy self again.
"I've surprised you?" He asked, surprised himself. He looked at the ground. "How do I surprise you?"
Alice shrugged again and looked down. Her cheeks became light pink. "I don`t know. You do smell rather tasteful." She said, she thought that sounded incredibly stupid. But it was true, alice had yet to meet someone who`s blood smelled better.
"Well..that's a..plus." He said awkwardly. Then he laughed. "You may not feel the cold, but can be go back inside? I'm going to get frostbite." He asked, pointing to the door.
Alice looked up and smiled. "Of course." She said. "I forgot that not everyone is immortal."
Seth opened the door and let her enter first. "Ladies before men." He said, using his manners.
"Vampires still count?" Alice commented, but she walked inside anyway.
"Vampires are people too." He said to her. "Shall we sit with them or at a table?" He asked, eying Stacey.
"We can sit at a table." Alice said quickly. She could feel that Seth wasn`t at great terms with Stacey right now.
Seth knew what she thought. "I don't want to take you away from your friends." He said slowly. He wasn't mad at Stacey, but the feeling of rejection just hadn't disappeared yet.
Alice glanced back to Stacey for a second, reading her thoughts. "No, she still feels really, really bad."
"I don't want her to..." Seth muttered. He sighed and sat down at a booth by a window. He put his hand to the window, the cold going through his palm and up his arm. "So your a vampire, and I'm a wolf..." He said in a low voice.
((Wow, that sounds like New Moon...))
Alice nodded. "Sounds about right." She said, sitting down across from Seth. She rested her elbows on the table and her chin on her hands.
((Hey, I didn't make him a wolf for that purpose. It was already in his bio. :) ))
Seth leaned back, putting his arm down on the table and looking at her. He didn't say a word, he just stared into her eyes as if he were...searching for something.
((I know, but still...))
Alice tilted her head. "What?" She asked catiuosly. Her eyes shone faintly in the light coming through the grimy window.
"Your eyes..." He said. "They are very pretty. Almost--mesmerizing." He said. He then shook his head, his hair moving back and forth, to get out of his trance. Then Seth's face reddened.
Alice looked down at the table, tracing the grain with a finger. "Thank you." she said softly, wondering if Seth had heard her. Her cheeks reddened.
Seth nodded quickly and looked back out the window in silence. What was he doing?
Alice smiled down at the table as she heard Seth`s thoughts. She didn`t say anything though. "No one`s... every said anything about my eyes before." She said, glancing quickly up at Seth through her thick lashes.
He looked back at her. "Really?" He said. "I don't understand how somebody can ignore something so beautiful." He said, his throat getting dry.
Alice looked up, startled, at Seth. Her bangs had fallen and covered most of her eyes. She felt her breath quicklen, even though she had no need to even breath. She swallowed, a lump forming in her throat.
He merely shrugged and tapped his knuckles together nervously.
Alice pressed her lips together and quickly looked out the window, her face hot and bright pink. Her eyes glittered more as the moonlight hit them. She half-closed her eyes, trying to keep them from reflecting the light.
Seth sighed.
"Perhaps...I should head back home." He said after a moment of silence. He smiled at her and felt that Stacey's rejection was nothing now. This girl...wow. He already had a crush.
Alice looked back to Seth, her lips still pursed. She didn`t really want Seth to leave, but she was really.... blown away by him. She looked down at the table again, fully back into her old self now.
He stood up from the table and waved to her. "Goodbye." He said. He started for the door, stopping as he opened it half way. He looked at her. "Come with me?" He asked.
Alice sighed silently and stood up. She walked over to the door and Seth. "Sure" She said, her voice hoarse. She looked down as they got outside so her eyes wouldn`t reflect anything.
((Alice?))
((Oopps, yea, Alice.))
Seth smiled and started walking through the snow.
"I do know a faster way.." He said.
Alice stared at the ground. "Faster way where?" She asked, completely confused.
"Well..home. Or wherever you want." He grinned. "Jump on my back."
Alice narrowed her eyes. "I could get us wherever faster, I`m a vampire, rememeber?"
"Oh...true." Seth sighed, his moment gone. "Where do you want to go?"
Alice sensed that she had ruined whatever he had planned. "Wherever you want to go." She said softly. She looked back to the ground, mentally kicking herself.
"I know this seems creepy and weird.." Seth started nervously. "But I'll go anywhere. As long as I am with you. I barely know you. In fact, we've only just met." He looked at her. "But when I looked into your eyes, I felt like I've known you my entire life." He looked at the ground and continue trudging through the snow, not knowing if she had run away yet or was about to yell at him.
Alice froze as Seth spoke. The cold breeze blew her hair aginst her cheek. Her lower lips trembled ever so slightly as she felt tears fill her eyes. "That... was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me." She said in a low voice.
Seth stopped but didn't turn around. He didn't say a word, but he was smiling. He felt his face hot against the bitter air, but it didn't matter.
Alice looked at the ground and clenched her hands together, not realizing that she had stopped breathing. She smiled at the ground, perfectly okay that Seth hadn`t turned around yet.
Seth could hear nothing but the howl of the wind. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs and stinging his throat. He began walking again, slowly.
Alice follwed Seth, slowly. Her footsteps were almost inaudiable over the wind.
He closed his eyes, picturing him running off in his wolf form, blending in with the snow. Invisible.
Alice looked up, seeing Seth`s thoughts. She noticed she wasn`t breathing and took in a deep breath of the frigid air. It would sting a normal person`s throat and lungs, but she didn`t feel a thing.
Seth dropped down into the snow out of nowhere, quiet for some time. Then he flipped onto his back and started to make a snow angel.
Alice lowered herself into the snow. she crossed her legs and put her elbows on her knees. She watched Seth silently, not knowing exactly what he was doing.
He looked at her. "I could smell the tears...." He grabbed some snow and threw it at her. "Have some fun!"
Alice was flat against the ground in a split-second. A huge smile covered her face. "You know, it`s kind off impossible to have a snowball fight with a vampire.
Seth smiled and sat up, piling snow on her.
Alice wrinkled her nose and was suddenly standing up, holding an armful of snow above Seth. Not a single flake of the snow Seth had thrown had touched her. "Surprise." She said, dumping the snow over him.
He had made some weird noise as the snow fell on top of him. He quickly brushed himself off and had a handful of snow in his hand. He stood next to her, face to face, and shoved it in hers.
Alice was behind Seth now, holding another arm load. "Surprise again." She said, throwing the snow on him.
He turned around suddenly and moved to the side, quicker than she probably thought he could move. He grinned and held out his hand. "Truths?" He said. His hair was soaked as were his clothes.
Alice smiled and took his hand. "Truths." She said, shaking his hand firmly. Her eyes glittered as the moon shone on them, blocked by nothing.
He held her hand for a moment. It was cold, and his was warm. But together...it felt just right. He finally let go when he had realized what he was doing, his arm falling limply at his side.
Alice stared into Seth`s eyes as he held her hand. She looked away quickly when he dropped it. She cleared her throat and put her hands behind her back.
He looked at the ground, then back at her, getting just a little closer. The wind howled again.
Alice looked at Seth through her lashes. The wind blew her hair into her eyes again, but she didn`t move it.
Should he? He wondered. Or was it a bad choice?
Alice quickly looked back to the ground, having heard what he just thought. She wondered if he was still upset about Stacey, if he was waiting for something. The wind blew more hair into her eyes, blocking them from the moon, so the stopped glittering.
Seth shrugged and leaned in to kiss her. He didn't care. She could hate him if she wanted. But this felt right. He pushed her hair out of her eyes and gently touched her lips with his.
Alice hesitated, but raised her hand to his cheek. Her fingertips just barely grazed his skin.
He closed his eyes and felt her icy touch on his skin. He smiled in the kiss and felt his knees shake.
Alice closed her eyes slowly and her other hand found his. His skin felt hot in her own icy skin.
He put his arms around her and tilted his head, thinking "Oh my gosh...I did it."
Alice laughed quietly, hearing his thoughts. She gently squeezed his hand.
((Are they still kissing?))
((I dunno.))
Seth took a step back and sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be doing this. That was dumb."
Alice dropped her hands, letting go of Seth`s. "No, it`s okay. I..." Alice paused, unsure of what she was trying to say.
Seth looked at her, his face a bright shade of red.
"Would you like to maybe...go out to dinner sometime?" He asked, his emerald eyes gleaming with hope.
Alice bit her lip as her face stretched into a smile. "I`d like that." She said softly.
He grinned but kept his cool.
"Excellent." He said. "How does tomorrow evening sound?" He asked.
Alice bit into her lip to keep from giggling. But why was she giggling? She never giggled. And yet here she was, hding a giggle.
"Sounds great."
Seth waved to her and then ran off, changing into his wolf form as he sprinted. He was a white wolf and blended perfectly into the snow. Except for his eyes. He howled as he ran, excited...happy.
As soon as she knew he wouldn`t hear, Alice broke into a fit of giggles. She sighed. He hadn`t said where to meet her.
~~~~~~~~
Alice stood near the road to Hogsmead. She was wearing jeans and a fitted black tee shirt. Her short black hair blew around her face as the wind whipped around. She stared at the ground, not sure where Seth was.
Seth came walking down the Hogsmead walk way, hoping that she had come here. He had forgot to mention when and where they were to dine. He wore a black dress shirt, two buttons undone, and a pair of jeans, torn at the knee. A typical clothing item for him. His hair was stylishly messy but the wind kind of made it less stylish. He looked around for her but found nobody. He walked further, about to give up, when he found her. He walked up to her and smiled softly.
"Hey. Sorry to keep you waiting." He said apologetically.
Alice turned with a smile to face Seth. "Hi, it`s okay. I wasn`t waiting long." Her voice sounded reassuring. "So, where are we headed?" She asked, changing the subject.
He looked towards the direction of the school.
"Well..." He said. "I kinda have something special planned...but it's not here. It's actually back at the school..."
Alice nodded. "Okay, we should probably get going then, this weather is getting worse." As she said that the wind picked up and became cooler.
She turned her back to the wind, facing the school. Her hair blew forward and covered her reflective eyes.
Seth turned and started walking.
Alice followed Seth, completely oblivious to what he was doing, whatever he was planning. There wasn`t anything jumping out at her from his mind; she had tried to be less perceptive when it wasn`t necessary. But she was curious.
"Would it give anything away if you said where we were going?" She asked hopefully.
"It's not that special, but I didn't want this to be at some stupid place like the Hogshead. So try to be surprised even though it's cheesy." He said, not giving away anything. He kept walking, grinning.
Alice laughed. "Come on, can`t you give me a hint?" She begged.
"Nope!" He said, running off. The school would be getting close soon.
Alice sighed happily and ran after Seth. She quickly caught up with him. "Where are we going?" She asked again.
He ignored her until they made it to the school. Then he walked to the side of the school where a broom lay. He got on and motioned for her to hop on.
Alice rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Seriously, a broom?" She asked, but she climed on behind him. She put one hand on his shoulder instead of wrapping her arms around his waist, that would be kind of weird after last night.
He rolled his eyes and rose the broom to the roof. He jumped off as quickly as he had gotten on and held his hand out to her.
Behind him was a well positioned arrangement of props, an attempt to look like a fancy diner. There was a small table with two metal chairs that had black cushioned seats. A candle flickered on top. There was music playing from Magic 105.7. Okay, so it was definitely cheesy. But he tried. He gave her a look that said "Maybe the Hogshead would be better...."
Alice smiled and took his hand, gracefully jumping off of the broom. She looked at the arrangement and looked back at Seth. Her look said "It`s not that bad." She smiled at him, the weak sun making her eyes glimmer.
He led her to the chairs and pulled one out for her.
Alice sat down, also gracefully. Her moves were seemed slow, but were had an unnatural air about them. She smiled as she waited for Seth to sit down.
Seth took his seat and handed her a menu he had made listed with all sorts of food. He had talked to the Elves to let him get food from the kitchen.
"So what will it be?" He asked. He didn't even know if she ate.
Alice hesitated as she glanced across the menu. She heard his thoughts wondering if she ate. "I... don`t eat your food." she said softly. "If it would make things easier, I could." Human food to her tasted like nothing more than dirt.
He laughed and gently took her menu, tossing it behind him.
"I guess we're pretty different huh?"
Alice pursed her lips for a moment. "Yea." She answered softly. 'Different' was putting things mildly.
Seth nodded and looked at the table.
Alice looked at the table for a moment before standing up and clearing her throat theatrically. "May I have this dance?" She asked, holding out her hand.
Seth looked at her, astounded that somebody like her would ask to dance. But he shook his head.
"I..I um..don't...dance." He said quietly, putting his hands in his pockets.
Alice dropped her hand. "I could show you." She offered. "Really, it isn`t that hard if you learn the steps." She wondered why he was acting like this...
Seth could kick himself. He didn't dance because he couldn't. When she had offered to show him, he had to say yes. He wanted to make her happy. Her stood up and grinned. Then he took her hand and put his other on her waist. "That's all I know." He said, blushing slightly.
Alice smiled and put one hand on his shoulder, holding his other hand in the air. "Waltz or slow tango?" She asked lightly. The sunlight reflected off of her eyes.
"You pick. I like the Waltz though." He said.
"Waltz it is." Alice announced. "First, the easy part. Picture a square on the ground." She said, looking down the the rough surrface of the roof.
Seth pictured a square. "Er...okay." He said.
Alice smiled and gently squeezed Seth`s shoulder. "Hey, you don`t need to worry, it`s really easy once you learn." She said, then she looked back to the ground.
"Okay, first you go to one corner at a time and bring your second foot back to the first. Like this." She too a small step back with her left foot and then brought her right foot back, too. She pulled Seth along with her.
"Um...Okay." He mumbled. He did as he was instructed. Accidentally stepping on her foot once or twice. But after a few measures, he got the hang of it. He smiled.
Alice pretended that she didn`t notice stepping on her foot, she barely felt it anyway. "Okay," She said, still going around the square. "Now you take diagnal steps." She led him to her back right, his forward left. "Then one side of the square." She stepped to her left, his right. "And diagonal."
Seth nodded and once again, did as he was instructed.
Alice`s smile got bigger. "Great. Now twirl." She let go of his shoulder and took a step back, twirling under their arms. She stepped back and put her hand back on his shoulder, doing more diagonal and straight steps. "And dip." She instructed.
"And dip." He said as he dipped. He grinned then let her go.
"Geez. This is harder than I thought it would be." He wiped his forehead casually.
Alice smiled. "See, you can dance. You just had to learn how." She encouraged. Her eyes glittered as she looked up into the sun.
He grinned and then looked up at the sun too.
Alice looked down at the rough surface she was standing on, something had caught her eye. She bent down to pick it up. It was a small, glittering rock, it looked something like a diamond. She cradled it in her palm.
Seth stared at the sky for some time, ignoring what Alice had found.
Alice`s eyes widened as she realized it was a diamond. She flattened her palm out, letting the sun hit it fully. It glittered and sent light bouncing off of it. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing cam out.
Seth looked over at her. At the diamond in her hand.
"Woah. That doesn't happen often."
Alice nodded, her probing eyes on the gem. "Do you... know how this got here?" She asked.
Seth shook his head. "I haven't a clue. "
Alice stared at it for a moment, her eyes large. She stood up slowly and held it out to Seth. "Can you tell if it`s real?" She asked.
Seth looked at it. It looked real. "I...I think so." He said, studying it.
Alice held it out for him to take it. "I have to use for it, you can have it." She offered.
"I don't want it." Seth said. He laughed. "Guys don't wear diamonds. Unless your a muggle and wear them in your teeth..."
Alice laughed quietly and looked at the diamond. "I guess, but I don`t know what to do with it. I`m surprised one of us didn`t trip on it." She slowly put it in her pocket.
"Yeah." He smiled and sat down on the edge of the roof.
Alice watched Seth sit down and a short minute later she sat down a few feet away from him, her eyes sparkling again.
