Title: A Question in Mind (New site ideas)
Post by: Sky on February 19, 2009, 11:13:31 AM
Hiya!

Well I am starting my own site here soon and was wondering if you have any suggestions.

It is entitled "Land of Literacy" XD ((LoL for short. I know the name is odd))

And it's basically a site for rping and writing stories.

My ideas are that people with good RPing skills will be allowed into certain boards while people who half "donkey" it will only be allowed into a few boards.

Example: I could have password only boards for the advanced and leave the rest to the others.

Does this sound a little mean? Or is it okay? I figure it's a good way to get people started on good literacy while having fun.

But it's also just a site meant for hanging out and talking.

Ideas are loved!

It is ok to do this, however, how are those who do not know how to r/p so good supposed to grow and learn if they are not allowed to do so with those who are good at it?

Well I thought maybe if I put the main boards off limits, they could post in the other RP boards to practice. Then when they have improved, they could be granted access.

But the idea may be scratched because people get angry and leave.

I tend to think that newbs to the writing scene should always be welcome to rp with the pros' it is the best way to have them grow in their writing style and such.  I encourage beginning writers to write with the rest, and in the past, though indeed it can become frustrating, I have brought up many a new writer this way.

And is pisses people off a lot less. lol

Besides, if say a couple good writers want a rp to themselves, they can always say (Invite only) in the topic of thier thread.  :P

True. Thanks!

I don't mean to sound rude either to anyone.

I just hate it when people ruin things with their bad grammar and obnoxious story lines.

I shall figure this all out. It'll be awhile before the site is opened anyway. It's pretty!!

Much good luck! Creating and beginning a board is only HALF the vicious battle. Getting people to stay and having even more people come is the hardest challenge you will face, in my opinion. But don't worry too much about that until you have the board ready for members.

I'm sure if you have any more questions, Kiara or Harry can help. They've both created and maintained boards longer than anyone I know. Me, not so much.  ;)

Thank you Kiara and Ginny! I've had a lot of experience making boards, but you are definitely right. It's harder to maintain and to have people stay. I just started making a board in school because I was bored and study hall is no use half the time.
I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions? Or ideas for the site?

You should listen to Ginny and Kiara though, I just a nobody at school... I'm also a newbie. lol, been on club penguin longer than this, and they don't listen to me! THE ICEBURG DOESN'T TIP BUT THEY STILL TRY! ooooo, sorry got off topic there, oopies, ignore that rant. but listen to Ginny and Kiara.

What you could do, was having a password protected board for better rpers, but, you could lay out finished Rp's in a section of it self, for newbies to browse! And of course, there has to be some boards where you don't need a password and everyone can Rp normally.

I think I'm going to go with that.

And I don't recall this forum having passwords?

No, others I've been to, before this when I was trying to find a proboard. Before coming here, I roleplayed with my cousin who has roleplayed with me before. Maybe I should post it, its cool. But I put in Harry Potter's time. I like your idea.
