Here you go guys...now we can recommend books without getting off topic!!!
I'll start with my recommendations.
Anything Jane Austen:
well, I made a list somewhere in the Gryffindor common room of JA's books.
Anything by any of the Bronte's, but I recommend starting out with Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights
Shakespear's cool most of the time, I like R&J, but Julius Caesar was BORING!!! Don't read it until you have to, because you'll eventually have to.
Ann Rinaldi, for those of you who are nerds like me and like historical fiction... ;)
The Witch of Blackbird Pond is a good book, I first read it in fifth grade and then again in seventh, so I guess I should read it again now that I'm in tenth....hmmm, I'll have to think about that!
The Three Musketeers.....one word....HILARIOUS!!!!
There you go, there are my recommendations!!!! Someone please let me know if you are planning on reading any of these books, so that way I can bug you about it!!!!
Oh, and another one, Johnny Tremain....that's a good book, historical ficton again!
I got a siries I would recamend.......The Bailey School Kids they are funny, misteruois, and more.
I would like to recommened:
The EverWorld series~ This is sooo awesome! But really confusing... there are 11 books so far, but they are really short. By K. A. Applegate.
The Wild Magic series~ I've only read The Realm of the Gods, and that was the last book, but it was really good! By Tamora Pierce.
Mermaid Summer.. can't remember who it's by...
Ella Enchanted and The Two Princesses of Bamare~ terrific stories! Both by Gail Carson Levine.
Ummm... I can't remember the name of this one book... it was about Merlin and fishing... I'll check the library at school tomorrow.
And I forgot the name of his other one! I can remember the covers, but not the titles... sorry! Most of the books I listed were from 7th grade while in Reading (although I love reading, the class FOR reading sucks!)
I also recommened the Harry Potter series.. heehee ;D
Oh, I noticed you put Ella Enchanted!! I have it, but I haven't read it yet, but I have read Just Ella, which is very good, and is also a sort of spin off of Cinderella, except it's more of a sequel, and things don't always turn out the way you would expect them to.
Just Ella? Is that by Levine?
Nope, it's by...I can't remember...but I'll go look because I have the book, and tell you later.
okie dokie :)
it is by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
Okay! Thank you!
Here's another book that I recommend:
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
I must also recomment Artimus Fowl, even though I have only read 4
pages of it. But from what I read, I liked it! ^_^
A few books I recommend are:
Walk Two Moons
The Chinese Siamese Cat (childrens book, but still good!)
Broken Sky (American anime - has a lot of action!) &
Dinotopia (very creative!)
And if you're up to it,
The Mists of Avalon
The Journey to the West (very looooooong-haven't finished it yet myself)
The Hobbit (if you haven't read it yet) &
The Lord of the Rings (hopefully you have read it!)
And those are my recommendations! (sp?)
Dinotopia... that sounds very fermiliar (familiar). Oh yeah! That new mega series on tv!
Did you ever finish the Mists of Avalon?
Dinotopia is a serices of stories/books that have really cool pictures too! And yeah, that right!
They are coming out with a movie of it! ^.^
No, I got half way through Mists of Avalon cuz I wanted to read
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings! :)
I read the Hobbit and I couldn't stand it, although it could have been because I was in seventh grade and hadn't gotten to the point where I would 'appreciate" it yet. Like To Kill A Mockingbird...I did not like that book, but I respected it.
I got Ella Enchanted in bookclub... I tink... was that the book that came with the pretend saphire necklace?
???
ummm... I didn't get one
Hmmm... I dunno! ??? ;D
I got Just Ella today while getting last minute Father's Day stuff! I'm gonna start reading it tonight! ;D
Good 4 u! ;D
;D ;D ;D
It's really good! I'm almost done! I recommend that book to everyone! But it doesn't have any magic in it.. :( that's okay! It's a good book any way!
Hmmm, I'll try to remember 2 look 4 it in these expensive bookstores over here... ::) ;) ;D
I'm so happy you are reading Just Ella!! It is really good. I liked it a lot. I originally got it for my sister, but I read it before I gave it to her...I couldn't resist! :) During my absence here, I did read Ella Enchanted, and it was good, it kept me very entertained!! I liked it a lot! Let me see...Some more I have to recommend are...
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Ann Bronte and also Agnes Gray. I've gotten into my Bronte kick, and these two books were really good! tToWH is about a woman in the 1800s (Bronte's time) who left her husband and started her own life...it sounds kinda boring, I know, but it tells the whole story of why and new people she met, and it is actually pretty darn good! I loved it! Agnes Gray is about a governess trying to support herself because her family is poor. It talks of her experiences with her different students, which was very entertaining. You can never go wrong with the Bronte's!!
Let me see...I started the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and from what I read, it's good, but I haven't read very much...
Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, is very good, but very very very PG13...like almost on the verge of it. Think Moulin Rouge people! LOL. But it is good. I'm having to read it for school next year.
Well, I think that just about covers it.
Keep the recommendations coming!!!
Um............................................................. What about...... Harry Potter? I dunno....... O! What about The Beat Goes On? It's for school, but it was good! Sad, but good. It's about a girl with AIDS. :'(
Hmm... I haven't read any other new books. I need to hit Waldens real soon..
There's 'Afternoon of the Elves' by Janet Taylor Lisle. It's really strange, but really good. I love that book, although it's for... I dunno.. younger ages.
Also 'The Pigman'. Don't remember who it was by, but it was a good book. We read it in English.
Lol! The Pigman! I remember that! ^.^ That was, interesting. ^^;
Erm...good books...I'm a big manga reader, so....um....I finish the first book to 'A Serice of Unfortunate Events - The Bad Beginning'. It was cool. :) But I guessed the main plotline for it... Bah well, pick it up if you get bored! ;)
:oGengi and Shui- classmates? :oWoah! OK... Woah! :DCool.
Yeah... in 3 whole classes, but she just HAD to go into Adv. art and leave me with Rick/John and Dominic :P that was scary.
*laughs* I'm sorry Shui! Well, I had my fill of Rick in 5th and 6th grade... o.O;
But yes, I don't see how you came out of there alive...watch you'll get them again in High School... ;D
;DSo....... What's Adv. Art? :D
Advanced Art Class. :) ;D
You had him in 5th and 6th? No wonder ur so messed up! lol J/K!!
Oh that's mean! ¨_¨ Lol! ^.^ I do hope we get the same lunch period! :)
And I still don't have any books to recoment to everyone, but I do have manga! ^_^ You can get these at book stores too!
Graphic Novels
~ Dragon Ball (not Z!) - Very funny!
~ Card Captor Sakura - One of Clamp's best!
~ Fushigi Yugi - ^_^ a good mix of everything
~ Sailor Moon - very interesting
There are some more, but you would have to watch the anime serices to get them (ex. Tenchi Muyo & Cowboy Bebop.). :)
Yeah... I seconed the DB thingys. They're so funny! *cracks up*
I still need to pick up one of the Fushigi Yugi's... hm.
Yes you do! ^^ The 6th book is out now! ^_^
cool!
:)
la la la la la *bored out of her mind* :-\
That's not good! I know! I'll intertain you! :D
*a stage pops up and her clothes turn into a tux with a cane and a flat-topped hat.*
:D
*starts to tap dance cheesily*
:D
:o :D ;D*rotfl hysterically* Lol!!!!! ;DNow, THAT's entertainment!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
;D ;D ;D ;D;;
*fans hat and try to do a complicated sort of jig and fall on her face* ^.^()
*snort* Now thats what I call entertainment! hahaha ;)
;D;;;
grrrrr.....I got the hobbit to tell you the truth I'm not big on LOTR, it's true, it's kinda boring!
Ok... i have a few books up my sleeve:
A Walk to Remember- Nicholas Sparks :'(
(this one made me cry, jsyk
Where the Red Fern Grows- I forget :'(
Fahrenhiet 451- Ray Bradbury
The Cronicles of Narnia- C.S. Lewis
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy- Douglas Adams
(This one is great. Actually, it is the only required reading book i have ever liked besides...)
The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood- Rebecca Wells
Ok, thats enough ranting for one night.
oh, except for:
A TALE OF TWO CITIES is evil. >:( I pity the fool that has to read it (think Mr. T there) lol. I cant stand long winded books
Also IVANHOE, good story, bad book. Sir Walter Scott spends 30 pgs. describing 2 guys walking down a road. ;D
I've read "Where the Red Fern Grows"! i_i I cried a lot at the end! ;_;
You really got to have pacients to read LOTR. :) I read it all! o.o 'Twas very good! ^__^ Lotsa detail and character developement. I recoment to everyone!! :D
Legolaaaaaaas *__* :-*
thanks for the entertainment Gengi! I am no long bored! :D
Ah yes.. Legolas... *swoons while drooling* lol
I also read 'Where the Red Fern Grows'. I didn't cry, but it was very sad... it was a required book in the 6th grade I sink.
The His Dark Material Trilogy By Philip Pullman
(ya know, The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass)
Great books!!! :D
hmm haven't heard of that...
Me either.... o.o
Hello Everyone! I'm back from my vacation. While I was gone, I have picked up a couple of books that I'll tell you about. But first, I just want to say to Sway, that I've read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, for school, and my class was the last class to read it because it was put on the banned reading list for my school district the year after. It was very different though. I like Ray Bradbury...but I think that if you're going to read him...start out with his short-stories so you can get the feel for the type of crazy and wild....uh...ideas he comes up with.
Okay, so, while I was on my trip, I read....
1. The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
Oh my goodness!!! Such a great book!!! I loved it. It's one of the first suspence fiction novels ever written....I think the second. The first was also written by Wilkie Collins. Anyway, it's a great story filled with all the great components of a great novel; suspence, intrigue, deciet, romance, and great characters. I loved this book. I reccomend it to everyone.
2. Walden by Henry David Thorough
Don't read this book until you are forced to. It's not even a book...it's a bunch words put together that keeps your attention just about as well as an educational science video. (science really isn't my thing) Henry David Thorough is a genius, yes, but that doesn't mean that his genius is easily appreciated. I recommend this book to philosophers, but if you're not a philosopher...then I don't even have to warn you against the book because as soon as you read the first sentence you'll put it down and never want to pick it up again anyway. In case you're wondering...for me, it's required reading for school.
3. A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
Okay, I know I said this was a good book on a previous post...but I finished it, and looking back on the whole thing, I didn't like it. Throughout the whole book I was hoping it would get better and that Hemingway's thoughts would have strayed a little bit away from...um...well, like I said before, think Moulin Rouge. But it never got better. It ends ubuptly (did I spell that right) and without any morals...any that were clearly stated or made any sense to me, anyway.
4. The first four chapters of my history textbook for next year....
The only part of my review that may interest you is....I found it ten times more entertaining than Walden.
Talk to you all soon!
KAELI!!!!!! HIIII!!!!!!!! WELCOME BACK!!! MISSED YOU BUNCHES AND BUNDLES! *big hug*
Glad your back! Hope you had a great time ^^
EEEE!!!! ^__________^ WB KAELI!!!!![/glow][/size]
';D ;D :D :D ;D
I hope you had a great time! :D
some books I would like to recomend are:
1) When the wind blows, pop goes the weasel, and roses are red, all by James Patterson.
pg-13
2)Also, the Redwall series by Brian Jacques
these are really good, they may seem odd in the beginning, because it's about a bunch of mice and moles and whatnot that live in this brick building called redwall abbey.(I know i probably sounded like a rambling drunkie, but oh well)
oooooooooooohh!!!!! SneakyPeeves, were the only ones who know of the His Dark Materials series! i'm at the beginning of the last book. I will also recomend them, for they are also good.
You might try The Belgarade series by David Eddings
Myth Inc. By Robert Asprin
Also all Piers Anthiny
1.)artemis fowl(all three)
2.)Pendragon(reading two...)but i suggest you read the whole series
Also another series is Unicorns of Balinor. Verry good stories.
And of course there's the infamous Harry Potter series. lol. ;)
