Sam Smith was skipping class, again. He had most of the week, just because he felt like it. He sat Indian style on a windowsill in the Slytherin common room, his forhead pressed against the glass while he watched what went on below.

Nothing was really going on down there, just a couple of birds pecking the ground for worms or something. He looked at blue bird that seemed larger then the other birds. It also seemed to have an attitude since all it had to do was fly over and the others would scatter. It reminded Sam of himself, when he was home.

Barry, his best friend at home had taken over his job as leader of their friends, while Sam was stuck here. he didn't like school at all, and he wondered why he had listened to his mom. Despite him not listening to anyone else, he always listened to her. She had told him he might as well do something with his life, when he had gotton the letter.

Sam's breath fogged the window up so he couldn't see out. He sat up, waiting for the fog to clear.

LavyBrown

Lavy stepped into the common room and noticed Sam. "At it again I see." she said sitting down at a table.

"At what?" He asked, his voice level. He didn't turn around but wiped at the fog on the window. He looked at his hand for a minute then placed it against the wall beside the window. He concentrated and his hand, up to half way between his wrist and elbow, took on the appearance of the stone wall. He moved his hand to a close-by green tapastry and his hand turned green. He pulled his hand back and it returned to normal.

"Besides, who're you to care?" He demanded, turning at his waist so he could see her. She looked familer, had he seen her before?

LavyBrown

Lavy laughed. "Your funny, I'll give you that, my names Lavy Brown. I'm suppose to get you to go to class, but I'd rather not. And yes you have seen me before." she said as an after thought, reading Sam's mind.

"And I'd rather you not read my mind." He said, narrowing his eyes. He was a gutsy kid, and this wasn't an act. He didn't know anyone at the school very well, so he wasn't aware of how little he actually knew. He wasn't scared of any of the others around here, and certanily not afraid of one kid.

He looked Lavy up and down, then turned back to the window. Okay, one girl. But, he'd never had to fight a girl before, he wasn't sure if he'd do it.

LavyBrown

"It's not my fault your thinking so loudly." Lavy said standing up. She walked over to the fire place and waved her hand over it, causing it to burst to life then thought for a moment.

"I'm guessing you don't remember me."

"Nope." Sam said, moving so his feet touched the top of the window and his back was on the sill while his head hung down. he looked at her upside down and grinned.

"I think you might look better this way." He said, forgeting he wasn't talking to someone he knew. he laughed and watched her to see the reaction she'd have. he wondered if she'd get mad, or if she'd laugh. He also wondered what she looked like when she laughed. After all, sometimes a girl could be extremely pretty when she laughed, and that's how he'd know if he'd get to hate her, or be her friend.

LavyBrown

Lavy did laugh. "Well that's not the first time I've heard somthing like that and it wouldn't be the last. But anyways, I'm suppose to make sure you stay in class."

"So? Where I come from, they have a truant officer to do that. Think I ever listened to him?" Sam asked, grinning as she laughed. He continued looking at her upside down. "Besides, who put you in charge of students?"

LavyBrown

"I'm only in charge of a small amont o sudents, and you just happen to be on the list." Lavy said with a shrug. She walked over to one of the chairs and sat down in it.

"So who can I talk to about this? I don't want some gilr younger then me being able to tell me what to do." He said, swinging his feet over his head a bit to far and doing a semi-flip off the two foot high windowsill. He landed, hard and sat up, shaking his head and looking at her for an answer. He smiled at her, an actual smile instead of a grin.

"Just kidding. I don't mind."

LavyBrown

Lavy smiled and shock her head. "Don't underestimate me, I'm lot more powerful then you are, and that I know for a fact."

Sam smirked now.
"Hey, I said I didn't mind. No need to start a fight, " He stood up and walked to her, placing his hand on her head, as though she were a little kid, "small fry."

He grinned and left his hand there, laughing slightly. She was younger then him, but he hadn't met many other people, so why not hang out with this girl?

LavyBrown

"Umm... okay then." Lavy said standing up, but not even moving Sam's hand. "Well since I can tell your not going to class, no matter what I say, and I'm not in the mood to make you go, what is it that you want to do?"

He ruffled her hair, then put his hands in his pocket and thought.
"Don't know. I don't do alot around here, in case you can't tell. I mostly sit around and watch." He said, thoughtfully. He hadn't done much since he came here. In fact, he was even a bit bored lately. one can only do nothing for so long.
