"I want to know as much as I can about you." Seth whispered. "I already know enough about changing."

Alice nodded, looking at the ground.

"Well, when I was human, I was rich. My father founded a small town near France. Um, the vampire that attacked me was a family friend. The one that saved me was a rogue. He... he was like a father to me. He helped me through everything, all of the changes. His name was Markus, and he was killed. After that I kind of just wandered around for a hundred or so years." She said slowly.

[Sky]

Seth watched her, listening intently to her tale.

"And what brought you to Hogwarts?" He asked.

"It had been a long time since I had learned anything interesting." She shrugged. "I still haven`t learned much." Alice looked up into his eyes.

"Whatever I came here to do, you`ve changed my mind about a lot of things."

[Sky]

Seth squeezed her hand.

"What kind of things?"

He looked into her eyes, then out over the edge of the mountain, where the ground was miles away.

Alice looked to the ground again.

"I thought I would always be alone, a monster that no one would care about. I though no human would ever--could ever-- care about a vampire. I never thought that I would meet someone like you." She whispered.

[Sky]

Seth smiled. "You aren't a monster." He whispered. "You are a goddess. And I'm not that special."

Alice stared into Seth`s eyes with a hard gaze.

"Seth, I am not a goddess. I`ve killed people. I`ve torn people away from their families and tortured them. One of the most famous vampire stories is the one about how we came to be-- we followed Gabriel out of heaven to live our immortal lives on earth. You are special. You can live. You can do anything you want with your life." She said slowly, trying to keep her voice level.

[Sky]

"But I can see that you're a good person. I don't care about what you did in the past. That's the past." Seth pulled her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"The term "living" is over-rated. You don't need to breathe air to live."

Alice shook her head and put her hands on his shoulders.

"Can you really call me living? Can you look at me, at what I can do, and call me normal. Can you see me resist the smell of your blood and call me human?" Her voice was soft and slow, and there was a tortured note in it. He didn`t understand. He hadn`t lived as a vampire. He didn`t have to deal with the struggle that came with it.

[Sky]

"Alice, I didn't mean--I wasn't trying to--." Seth sighed as he stumbled on his words.

"Why won't you just change me now? Why do we need to be married first? I want to go through this experience with you. I want to understand what you've been going through."

Alice was quiet for a moment, looking down.

"I want you to at least have some human memory. I want you to remember something good. I want you to be ready, Seth." She said, looking up into his eyes. "I know you say you are, but I need to be ready, too. I don`t know if I can, yet. You trust me too much to doubt me. What if I can`t do it, Seth? What`s going to happen? You`ll probably die."

[Sky]

"I have plenty of human memory. And the day that I met you will be that good, no, amazing memory." Seth smiled and then laid down on the ground.

"You`ll probably die."

"Then I die." He said simply, yawning.

Alice`s eyes were suddenly staring into his, and her fingers were tight around his wrist.

"Do you know what that would do to me? I couldn`t live to see you die, d*mmit, that`s why I decided that I would change you. I don`t know if i can live in a world where you don`t exist." She looked away, her hands in her lap.

Seth took her hand and gently motioned for her to lie beside him.
"I hate being the weaker one. The male is supposed to be the protector. The one that keeps his mate from being in any harm." He said quietly, staring at the sky.
