She came to with her good hand tied to a chair with what seemed like steel bindings cutting into her wrist. She winced as she tried to move her hand and they cut in further. As she got to stand up, she realized her feet were tied too. Jackie sat down, shoulders slumped and head hanging in defeat. He had too many ways to get her. Too many possible ways to find her, but no way to kill her.

She closed her eyes and felt a small lump in her pocket, good, it was still on her. That fool hadn't thought to check her. She bet he was probably still searching her father's house for it. Her mouth twisted into a grim smile as the thought that they would never find it dawned on her. She hoped it would be true.

The door rattled and flew open with a bang. Jackie instinctively jumped, sending a sharp pain through her bound arm. She immediately relaxed her arm causing the minimal amount of pain possible. Then forcing herself to look up, she met his eyes, evil, malignant and piercing. She cringed in her seat.

He strode into the room and laughed. "Good evening miss, Dawn." He crowed, triumphantly. "And how are you today?" He asked happily, taking her chin and turning her face up to his.

Jackie scowled and snapped at his face, her teeth grazing the tip of his nose. He jumped back and slapped her hard, sending her face to the side. She groaned slightly at the red mark on her face, but showed no sign of pain. She would never give him the satisfaction he craved.

He smiled and looked at her again, almost pleasant. "Now, where is the locket?" He asked, but Jackie just looked at him. "You wish you knew." She hissed angrily, glaring again, but a bleep on a warlike walkie talkie from his pocket interrupted them.

He lifted it to his ear and listened as someone hollered something from the other end. He frowned as he slid it back to his pocket. "I'll be right back." He said, pacing out of the room.

She waited until he was gone and then began fidgeting her feet. She struggled and twisted until one was free, and then the other. She backed up and ran at a small pipe on the wall, turning so it hit her binding at just the right angle. The metal cut into her skin again as it fell off. She made no sound, but just bit her lip and doubled over on the floor holding her wrist.

After she collected her wits she quietly looked around. Window? No to loud... Door? No... guards were there... Then she saw the vent, she was definitely small enough, so she hurried over and ripped off the cover easily. She clambered in and ripped off the wretched cast, flexing her arm that was now almost healed. She was glad about this side affect of being a vampire, but none of the others.

A minute later, she was a good 20 feet down the vent when she heard angry screaming from the other room. She hurried and took a turn so they wouldn't know which way she went. Then she frantically scrambled on into darkness.

ok since your begging..

It was moist and she had no idea how long she had been hiding. There was nothing but dark, and she didn't have a watch or light. She slowly crawled on, her hands becoming the tiniest bit sore. She stopped for a moment, bending them back and forth to make sure she could still use them. Then she pressed onward, looking for an escape.

Only minutes later she almost hit her head as she jumped in the vent. A breeze of fresh air had wafted through the vent to her nose. Jackie scrambled quickly to the sound, taking no more time to be careful, but such was a mistake because the next thing she knew, about a centimeter behind her, a bullet broke through the bottom of the vent, creating an ear shattering bang.

She frantically made her way to tiny beam of light now shining through the end, as more bullets pronounced their path behind her.  She reached the vent opening and wrenched it off easily, tumbling town to the ground outside. She had no idea where she was and didn't care. She just hit the ground and ran.

She landed out on the ground perfectly and bolted toward tree cover. Once safely on the forest she swung to the tree tops and made her way over branches, leaving no trace on the ground of her presence. Soon her trees came to an end, but that didn't stop her running.

She ended up finally by a small stream cutting through a flat grassy area she found herself in. The stream babbled and brought back her memories of home. Her mind became pleasantly lethargic and she sank into a dreamlike state, although she was never asleep. She drifted back to a week ago...

"NO! I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!" She screamed at him.
"What?" Her father had asked, hurt and confusion clouding his eyes. He turned to look at her. "Why?"
"Hmm... I wonder... Because I've been living all my life a lie!?" She had shouted back, tears clouding her vision.

That had been the day she found out she was vampire. Then her relationship with her father crumbled, until she found the letter. His death letter. She had collapsed on the river bank hopelessly sobbing and Seth had come to piece her back together, but he was her friend, not the one who held her heart.

He thoughts strayed to a few days ago when she found the one she loved lying crumpled and broken, as she was just days ago. She did the best she could to help him, but she could never tell if it would be enough. All she could do was be a friend now... Then the day she had to say goodbye. She couldn't come to tell anyone herself, that she had to leave because she didn't want to endanger anyone at Hogwarts.

She had written a note. A note that she hoped someone had found because it explained everything. It replayed in her head:

Dear... Everyone,
I hate to leave, but there has been an emergency that needs my attention. It is of the utmost importance and I'm afraid if I hadn't left, it would involve all of you too. I may not return and if I don't within the next month, it is likely I am dead.

Come and find me then. Find me some how. There will be a locket in my right front pocket along with a note. The note gives instructions and another important matter I did not have time to discuss before I left.

My sincerest apologies,
Jackie

It was simple instructions and Jackie knew they would protect her locket with their life. It contained her family's prized possession. A tiny jewel. It may not look like much, but in the wrong hands it could be used for terrible things. She could feel herself drifting back to focus, the lethargy subsiding.

A twig cracked in the forest and she jumped up backing against a tree and assuming a defensive crouch. She bared her fangs and hissed in warning. The figure moved from the forest. She saw him and gasped.
