Stacey shook her head slowly. She stared up at the house with large brown eyes. She was worried. Worried what her mother was going to think, what she`d say.

"No. It`s not your job to, and she`s more likely to freak out at you saying it than if I do. I`ll do it." She squeezed his hand once more then knocked on the door.

It opened a few moments later, her mom standing in the doorway. Her poofy blonde hair swept back into a ponytail. She had jeans and a light green tee shirt on. She looked down at her daughter with a surprised look.

"Stacey, I wasn`t expecting you to show up." Her tone wasn`t exactly welcoming."

Stacey nodded, looking down at the ground for a moment. "Yeah, well... we`d just thought we`d stop in for a visit. Haven`t seen you in a while." It was obvious that she was lying. She never really got along with her mother, she wasn`t going to stop in and visit.

"Huh. We`ll, I guess you`d better come in." Carrie replied, stepping aside so the young couple could enter.
"Get out of my way! I'm a free spirit!"

"And now I understand a phrase I once thought odd;
I guess to love another person is to see the face of God."

Aiden

Aiden nodded and smiled politely to his mother-in-law as he walked past her and followed Stacey into the house.  He looked around as he suddenly notice the nervous feeling setting in his stomache.  Slowly, his eyes turned a dark brown.

He turned around, looking at both Stacey and Carrie.

Stacey squeezed Aiden`s hand again, leading him towards the living room. The curtains were pulled back and soft sunlight was spilling in, making everything look light and delicate. Stacey seated herself on the couch, avoiding her mother`s eyes.

"Well? What`re you here for? It must be something important, or you wouldn`t be here. Did you`re father die? You broke? Pregnant?" Carrie was just ranting on, but she had guessed right. Stacey swallowed the lump in her throat and stared at the floor. Her eyes were suddenly dark blue; she was actually scared of her mother.

"Um, yeah." She replied softly.

"What?" Carrie demanded. She was still standing, but now she seemed to loom overhead like a vulture waiting for its prey to die.
"Get out of my way! I'm a free spirit!"

Aiden

Aiden stood up quickly, looking at Carrie and the dark expression on her face.  He pulled his face together to make him appear strong and unbothered by the way his mother-in-law looked.

"Now Mrs. Black, before you get angry, I'd just like to say that I am going to do everything in my power to show that Stacey and my unborn children are safe and well cared for.  I won't let anything happen to them, and I will make sure that they live comfortable lives.  I understand that you're going to be angry with me and that's fine.  However, I love Stacey and I won't let anything happen."
Aiden paused, watching her expression.  He snuck a look behind him to peek a glance at Stacey.

Stacey`s eye were wide and an anxious yellow. She knew her mom to know that what Aiden said would probably push her past her limit. If Stacey or her father would have said that, she would explode. She couldn`t imagine what Carrie would do now.

"Really? That`s great." Carrie said, smiling and sitting down in one of the armchairs.

"Wait, what?" Stacey asked dumbly. Of course, in her mind it was more like "What the hell?!" She glaned between Aiden and her mother. What had she said?

"That`s great, Stacey. I`m happy for you. You`re young, but you`re eighteen now, and you`ve always been mature. You can handle it if you think you`re ready." Carrie explained calmly.

What the hell?!

Aiden

Even Aiden, having barely known Stacey's mother but only heard stories of her rage, was dumbfounded.  Without thinking, he sat down beside Stacey.  He looked at Carrie with a look of surprise, the relief not quite registering in his face yet.

He took Stacey's hand automatically.
Aiden turned his head to the side, and looked at Stacey.  Her expression was clearly showing her surprise which was about as much as he was feeling.  It was only now that he let out a sigh of relief.

Aiden wasn't quite sure if she approved of this, but she wasn't yelling at either of them.  He suspected that that was the best approval he could've hoped for.

Stacey started playing with Aiden`s fingers absently. Her mother wasn`t yelling at her, and she just couldn`t understand it.

"So... you aren`t mad at me?" She asked tentively.

"Well, I`m not glad your pregnant. You are young, but you`ll learn. You`ll be able to handle it. I know you will."

An emotion swept through Stacey, something she hadn`t felt very often growing up: acceptance from her own mother. Tears welled up in her eyes a little and she turned towards Aiden. She didn`t want Carrie to see her tears.

Aiden

Aiden sighed again, but this time more quietly.  He looked away from Stacey and up to his mother-in-law, Carrie.

"Thank you."  He said quietly.
"I'm relieved you aren't mad, and I still mean it that I'm going to take care of them."

He squeezed Stacey's hand.

"Hm," Carried sighed, "Well, I suppose I should be a little angry. You two are young, you have a lot of time in front of you. Now you have to grow up quickly to take care of your child. Still, I wish you the best."

Stacey tensed up as her mother spoke. She had forgot to mention one little detail.

Um, mom... I`m going to have twins." She said softly, turning back to the older woman.

Carrie raised an eyebrow.
"Well, good luck."

With that she stood up and walked out of the room, clearly dismissing them.

Aiden

Aiden watched Carrie as she walked out of the door.  Yet another reaction he wasn't expecting of his mother-in-law.  He raised an eyebrow and turned to Stacey.

"Uh, were you expecting that as much as I was?"  Aiden asked, feeling as if he had missed something.

He turned towards the room where Carrie had walked into.  He waited for a moment to see if she was coming back.  However, apparently she wasn't.
He turned towards his wife again.

Stacey snorted, on the verge of being hysterical.

"I don`t know half of what my mother does or why. That was... odd." It felt like a big weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She had been stressing over how her mother would react, and now it was all over and no harm had been done.

Aiden

Aiden pressed his lips together in a way that almost mimicked a sarcastic smirk.
"I wouldn't be surprised if she came back with a knife."  He joked halfheartedly.

Aiden flipped his hair out of his eyes and looked at Stacey, tilting his head.
"What do we do from here?"  He asked.

Stacey stood up, a smile on her face for the first time in days.

"We can do whatever we want, my moon." She replied.

((Want to skip a week or so later? We`ve kinda fallen behind?))

(( >.< ))

"Are you ready to go?" Stacey asked, bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet. She was excited for today, really excited. Today she would be getting her first sonogram, she would get to see the twins for the first time. "Come on." She laughed, linking her fingers together behind her back. She was feeling incredibly impatient, but she was happy. She hadn`t felt sick for over a week, and that made her feel even better. Things just felt... better somehow.

"We`re going to be late." She added, "Aiden, where are you?"
