Harry Potter Books / Re:Recommend Books

Hello Everyone! I'm back from my vacation. While I was gone, I have picked up a couple of books that I'll tell you about. But first, I just want to say to Sway, that I've read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, for school, and my class was the last class to read it because it was put on the banned reading list for my school district the year after. It was very different though. I like Ray Bradbury...but I think that if you're going to read him...start out with his short-stories so you can get the feel for the type of crazy and wild....uh...ideas he comes up with.

Okay, so, while I was on my trip, I read....

1. The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
Oh my goodness!!! Such a great book!!! I loved it. It's one of the first suspence fiction novels ever written....I think the second. The first was also written by Wilkie Collins. Anyway, it's a great story filled with all the great components of a great novel; suspence, intrigue, deciet, romance, and great characters. I loved this book. I reccomend it to everyone.

2.  Walden by Henry David Thorough
Don't read this book until you are forced to. It's not even a book...it's a bunch words put together that keeps your attention just about as well as an educational science video. (science really isn't my thing) Henry David Thorough is a genius, yes, but that doesn't mean that his genius is easily appreciated. I recommend this book to philosophers, but if you're not a philosopher...then I don't even have to warn you against the book because as soon as you read the first sentence you'll put it down and never want to pick it up again anyway. In case you're wondering...for me, it's required reading for school.

3.   A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
Okay, I know I said this was a good book on a previous post...but I finished it, and looking back on the whole thing, I didn't like it. Throughout the whole book I was hoping it would get better and that Hemingway's thoughts would have strayed a little bit away from...um...well, like I said before, think Moulin Rouge. But it never got better. It ends ubuptly (did I spell that right) and without any morals...any that were clearly stated or made any sense to me, anyway.

4.  The first four chapters of my history textbook for next year....
The only part of my review that may interest you is....I found it ten times more entertaining than Walden.

Talk to you all soon!

What I could never understand was...Why do they call Harry Potter sac-religious...when he has a godfather (I will refrain from putting anything extra due to the 'siriusness' of this thread...LOL) and they have Christmas and Easter celebrations and holidays...I will never understand that.

Okay...here goes. Tomorrow I am going on vacation for about a month. I don't know how often I will be able to get to a computer with internet access, so it may be awhile before I come back again. Aug. 1 is when I'm getting back from vacation, so I'll be back sometime around then. Sorry I have to leave again!! I'll come back this time though...even without hpcoolest hounding me!!! LOL. No, she didn't hound me.

I'm so happy you are reading Just Ella!! It is really good. I liked it a lot. I originally got it for my sister, but I read it before I gave it to her...I couldn't resist! :) During my absence here, I did read Ella Enchanted, and it was good, it kept me very entertained!! I liked it a lot! Let me see...Some more I have to recommend are...

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Ann Bronte and also Agnes Gray. I've gotten into my Bronte kick, and these two books were really good! tToWH is about a woman in the 1800s (Bronte's time) who left her husband and started her own life...it sounds kinda boring, I know, but it tells the whole story of why and new people she met, and it is actually pretty darn good! I loved it! Agnes Gray is about a governess trying to support herself because her family is poor. It talks of her experiences with her different students, which was very entertaining. You can never go wrong with the Bronte's!!

Let me see...I started the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and from what I read, it's good, but I haven't read very much...

Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, is very good, but very very very PG13...like almost on the verge of it. Think Moulin Rouge people! LOL. But it is good. I'm having to read it for school next  year.

Well, I think that just about covers it.

Keep the recommendations coming!!!

About the news, which I am so happy to have heard, by the way!, I just want to say, that Shui once said that snakes were majestic...this would explain her obsession with the evil characters of HP...J/K Shui!! Well, what is more majestic than a black horse!????

Talking about me behind my back, are you!!! Well! Nah, just kidding! I could never get mad at you guys!! LOL. Well, to answer your question, Shui, yes, that was precisely what I was thinking!! ;D

Okay, being that I saw hpcoolest state her facts earlier in this thread....let me copy her, and state mine.

1. Daniel Radcliffe is okay...but people....my goodness...talk about obsession!!!! LOL
2. I shouldn't be one to talk about obsession over someone real....(for an explanation...look at who started this thread in the first place...LOL.
3. I'm not obsessed...it's just that Sirius is so cool!!!! He is awesome, and if he was real, then this statement may be revised a bit.
4. Shui...I will never understand you. LOL Snape????
5. Draco people of the world...oh my...I'm so worked up I can't even think of the right thing to say!! You all know how I feel about Draco...If only there was a disgusted looking smiley up there, this would be the perfect time to use it.
5. I'm glad to be back.
6. There are way too many threads on here for me to read all of them!!!
7. I am so mad about the 5th book being delayed!!!!!!!
