Chapter Three:  The Beginning of The End

Six months since Kiara had sat next to Max on her mountain top and she now stood in the room, her room, facing Evan and asking the questions he didn't want to answer for her.

"Why must I stay here."  It wasn't a question but a comment, one that cut Evan to the core.

"I'm sorry it's not to your likening Kiara, I'm sorry if I can't please you, although I give you everything you want, make you laugh and .."

Kiara  cut him off with a glare.

"Look ,Evan, it's got nothing to do with you and you know it.  I have had a great time with you, I will miss our flights across the night sky and everything else, but it's time for me to go home.  Max needs me."  Kiara started, looking into the incredibly gorgeous blue pools of Evan's eyes.  "You're not being fair, you could at least let me in on your little secret.  I know that you keep me here for a reason other than your own selfish wants and needs.  What is it I have to do to go home.  Tell me, please, don't turn away and walk out this time, I need to know Evan, even if it's some horrid feat that might kill me to find out, you have to tell me."  Kiara finished, her tone not angry but pleading.  She had a need to know, a longing to know why it was she had been told she could return but not allowed to do so yet.

Evan motioned for her to sit.  Kiara shook her head.

"No, I think I'll stand if you don't mind."  Kiara replied

She hated it when Dumbledore always told her to take a seat when he had something more than a little depressing to tell her.  What?  Did all the men in her life think that she'd pass out at the shock of some horrible feat she'd have to perform or that some one else had preformed?  Were they all blind to the fact that everything she had been through was horrible, her life in general seemed to be surrounded by death and killing.  Nothing, it seemed could shock her any longer so, she stood, waiting for his reply.

"Ok, suit yourself."

That too, was annoying to her, Dumbledore always said the same thing when she decided to not take his offered seat.

"Go on."  Kiara said, crossing her arms and looking at him.

It's not what you have to do necessarily, Kiara, the reason I keep you here is because once you make the choice, the one you must make in order to save Max, and I know you'll make it, you'll not be allowed up here again."  He started then stopped, thinking how to explain with out telling her exactly what it was that had to happen.  "You will need to help him and when you do, shortly after, you can go home.  I promise."  He finished.

Kiara stood staring at him.  He had just managed to tell her what needed to be done with out giving her any details as to how or why.

"You're holding something back Evan, but ok, I'll wait and play the game, so long as I know one thing."

"What's that Kiara?"

"Max won't de, will he?"

"That, will depend on you Kiara, when the time comes, you'll understand."  Evan replied.

Kiara didn't like the underlying emotions she felt in him.  Something terrible was indeed going to happen but she knew she wouldn't get an answer from him so she let it drop.  She figured as with everything else in her life, she'd have to wait and deal with it when it came.

"Here you go Max, it's that paper you were wanting, the one from that Muggle trader over in the back ally of the Ministry."  Harry said and handed him the slip of paper.

"Thanks Harry, this is just the thing I needed."  Max replied as he turned the paper in his hand.

The texture of it much lighter than the parchment used in the magic world.  He wondered why Muggles always used paper instead.  It didn't last as long nor did the ink put to it last.  He shrugged at his thoughts then looked up at Harry who still stood there, watching him.

"You're not planning on going after Malfoy on your own are you Max?:"  Harry asked, knowing that look on his brother-in-law's face.

"Harry, I will just look into this lead, if I come up with something solid you can trust I'll be coming back here for help.  Don't worry about it, I'm not trying to get myself killed.  Kiara would kill me again if I did."  He replied with a half laugh.  Knowing he wasn't too far off on how Kiara would handle his going off alone to try and take Malfoy down, knowing that he had someone backing him that could quite possibly kill him.

"Ok, then I'll see you at dinner tonight then?"  Harry asked.

Max nodded then smiled.

Harry left Max's office and Max opened the letter he held and read it.

Kiara laid on the cloud, her head resting on her arms and she stared at he night sky above.  Evan, as always was right next to her.

"I will miss this when I go, you do know that, right?"  Kiara said.

"I'll miss you.." Evan replied.

Kiara turned her head to look at him.  He laid much the same as she, his head resting on his arms, looking up into the night sky.

Evan understood her now.  He knew Kiara loved Max with every fabric of her being.  He only wished she'd love him the same, although, he knew it wasn't possible.  He was just happy that he did have her love, even if it was only a part of her, at least he had it.  He turned his head and smiled at her.

"I'm sure the skies will not be as beautiful once you've gone.  The earth, on the other hand will shine like the stars when you return to it."

Kiara smiled back.

"You know you can come visit when ever you wish.  I will undoubtedly need your help, from time to time as well.  We'll see each other even if it's not the same as now, at least you will be able to come around."  Kiara replied, knowing he wouldn't come to earth as much after this time spent with her in his world.  He'd want it again, knowing he couldn't have it.

"Don't be offended if I don't come around as often as I would like.  You do understand, I hope."

Kiara nodded her head then kissed him softly.

"I do understand Evan, more than you know, I understand."

Evan smiled.

"I knew you did."

Max walked along the paved street and turned in to the ally where the Muggle trader operated his store and stopped just before him.  He was dead.

Who ever, and Max believed he knew just who, killed him, left no mess what so ever, the only evidence that he was murdered was a burn at his temple.  One that suggested he died in much the same fashion as Voldem0rt.  A bit of black magic known only to those taught by Belgarian.  The one who did this, studied under the same master as Kiara had, only difference, Max thought, was that perhaps this sorcerer had finished his training.  That meant that he would indeed be a very hard wall to pass though when the time came.

"Oh Kiara, where are you when I need you."  Max whispered.

"She's dead Max, or have you forgotten already?"  A familiar drawling voice came from behind him.

Max whirled around to come face to face with Draco.  But, before he had a chance to do anything, he was once again, hit from behind, the light of the afternoon sky faded as he slipped into unconsciousness.

"Kiara..."  Was the last thing he said before slipping into total blackness.

Kiara sat bolt upright.

"Max, he's in trouble."

Evan sat up slowly then stood, holding his hand to her.

"Yes Kiara, he is.  He's in bigger trouble than he's ever been before.  So, it's started then..."

Kiara standing now on the same cloud as before spread her wings to take off.

"Wait Kiara, you understand that once you go after him, you'll not be the same again, never again."

"What are you talking about Evan?  I have to go, if I don't, he'll die."

"I know, but a part of you will die if you do go.  The part that creatures love, a part that you can not get back."

"Evan, tell me what it is, it makes no difference though, I would go to him even if it meant I would never have breath again, for any reason."  Kiara replied.

Evan nodded his head and sighed.

"This, I know and was afraid of..."

Kiara narrowed her eyes.

"Tell me.."

"There is one sleeper left to awaken in you Kiara, it's a part of you that has slept all these years, waiting for this moment to show it's self.  It's not another person but the true you.  The one that was supposed to be, you were not meant to be a servant of good but of evil, the only reason you came to be who you are is your brother.  Even before you were born, he locked the evil with in you; it stayed where it was imprisoned until this moment.  When you go down there, it will begin to take you over, take it's rightful place in the body meant for it.  You, Kiara, are nothing more than a dream of a boy who refused to live with something so terrible for nine months."

Kiara narrowed her eyes again.

"No Evan, you are wrong.  I am the one who was supposed to be, not this evil you speak of.  I will not let it take me over and Max, he'll stand by me help me keep it at bay.  Nothing can ever change who I am, I am I, Kiara Johnson, destroyer of the darkest evil known to human kind and the one who will keep it that way.  Make no mistake Evan, Guardian Angle or not, I won't let you try and detour me into staying here and letting the one I love more than life it's self die at the hands of some filthy Death Eater who just won't give up the thought of taking his former masters place."

"Ok Kiara, but just so you know what it is you are up against, his name is Moloch.  You remember him, right?"

Kiara gasped and took a step back.

"No...why had Draco.."

But she knew the answer.  Moloch was an assassin and would work for anyone who paid him the right amount.  Not only that, Moloch was also quite a bit more powerful than she was in her self.  She now understood just what trouble Max was in.

"But why.."  But she knew that answer too.  Draco must know what will happen when she goes after Max and faces Moloch.  He must have talked with Voldem0rt more in detail than she had thought.  Draco was certainly more intelligent than she gave him credit for.

"Yes Kiara, he seeks to win you over once you change.  I do hope that the link between yourself and Max is as strong as you think it is.  If it is not..."  He left it hanging.

"Thank you Evan, you have helped me more than you know.  I will see you shortly.  Then I will return to earth and to Max."

With that said, Kiara once again spread her wings wide and flew off toward earth and the last known position she felt Max was.

Evan watched her go and even as she flew off, he could see her angel wings changing, their white becoming darker by the second, there soft, featheriness taking on a harsher, more leathery form, reverting back to the fallen angel form of dragon-like wings.

"Good bye Kiara"  Evan whispered then turned a solemn face to the other direction and took off toward the sky and his castle in the stars.

Chapter Four:  The Appearance of Evil

Max opened his eyes and winced as his head began to spin, his vision was blurred but his hearing worked great and he heard now, the sound of footsteps coming towards his cell.

After what seemed to Max an eternity but in all actuality, was only a few minutes, the door to his cell creaked open with a sound of rusted iron against stone.

"I see you've woken.  Good.  I have some one for you to meet."  Draco's voice came to Max from the opening in his cell.

Max tried to stand but only managed to make his head hurt even more with the effort.

Draco laughed.

"Don't bother Johnson, Moloch did a good job on you this time.  I think you'll be dead before you have the strength to stand again."

"Piss off Malfoy."  Max managed the insult, even though it cost him again in his head.

"Tsk, tsk, Max.  I would think that one in your position would be a bit more polite.  Things might not go as bad for you if you were."  Draco started.  "But, then again, you are who you are and I do indeed owe you a lot."  He finished, his voice changing at the last sentence

"What do you want Malfoy."

"Me?  You're actually asking me what I want?  How rich.  Max Johnson asking me what I want.  If you would have let me have what I wanted years ago, you wouldn't be here now.  Alas, that is in the past and now, what I want is much the same, only this time, I will get it."  Draco answered in a peevish tone.

"Not upset are you Malfoy, that I have everything you wanted."  Max chided.

"Not at all Johnson.  Why you might ask, well the answer lies in the fact that Kiara is not what you thought her to be all these years.  If only poor little Max would have listened to me when I brought her to the school, too bad you have to find out now.  Too bad she will find out too what she truly is.  However, it is good for me so, what difference it makes that you loose your wife and your life, all in one day.  I gain a new master and a new lover all in the span of your suffering.  It seems to me, payment enough for everything you have done and taken from me over the years."  Draco replied with a low growl.

Max once again tried to get up, he actually managed, in his anger at Draco's words, to lurch forward and grab Draco by the throat.  Despite the fact that his whole entire body felt as though it would rip apart if he didn't sit back down.

Kiara Johnson

#44
Draco, startled by his strength, fell back and they both hit the floor as Moloch stepped in the cell.

"Problems Draco?"  Moloch almost laughed as he picked Max off Draco and pushed him back against the wall.

"You shouldn't play with Max like that.  He's stronger than you give him credit for.  It's no wonder Kiara was so attracted to him.

"Who are you?"  Max growled.

"Me?  Why my names Moloch, have you not been listening?  Oh, you meant to ask where I came from didn't you."  Moloch answered on his lofty voice.

Max studied him.  Moloch was impressive to look at, even if he weren't a sorcerer, he'd impress the heck out of most people.  He stood a good six and a half feet tall and was very strongly built.  His silvery-black hair hung down to his mid-back and his eyes, that's what set him apart from most.  The pupils were elongated, much like a cat's.  The color of them was a deep crimson red with a speck here and there of silver which could only be detected when the candle light flicked off them.

Max could feel the power emanating from this person.  It was like nothing he had felt before and wondered why it was that Belgarian would continue to teach such a powerful man.  Kiara always had the same, feel, about her but nothing compared to this man.  No one, for that matter seemed to have what he had.

"Well, I am not from here, I come from America, I grew up with your little wife until she left at 13. I am sure she would remember me.  Out of all the people on that Isle, I was the only one she was truly afraid of.  For good reason too.  I never liked her.  She was always the favorite student, that is, until she left.  But enough of my child hood, the pressing matter just now is how I want to kill you."  Moloch paused and turned to Draco then.

"She'll be here Moloch, all you have to do is keep him alive long enough for her to change, that's all, then he doesn't matter any longer."

"What are you talking about Draco.  Wait, your trying to wake up the thing sleeping in her."  Max growled and tried once again to stand but failed as Moloch simply looked at him and pushed him down again.

"So, you do know then.  But, do you know that it isn't a someone sleeping with in her but a something?  That's right Max.  Kiara is not what she seems and I will prove it to you and just before you die you will understand."  Draco explained in a rather joyful manner.

"What ever Draco, you know she'll kill you before she sleeps with you so don't get too excited over it."  Max spat back.  "And I seriously doubt she'll let your thug here kill me either."  Max grinned at Moloch.

"Are you sure I have to wait?  Killing him now seems like such a better idea."  Moloch glared at Max.

"You'll do as I say and wait, if you kill him now, Kiara would likely destroy the whole earth to punish you for it.  Then where would you be?  All that money I'm paying you would go unspent."

Moloch had his own plans and never really intended to kill Max at all.  He wasn't stupid.  He knew of Kiara's true self and had trained most of his life to set her free from it.  Draco had contacted him and Moloch immediately saw the opportunity there.  he knew he'd get the chance to talk with her again.  He also hated Draco for wanting to bring her to her true self.  He had hoped, Max would have kept her stable for ever, but now, it looked as though he'd actually have to do what he dreaded, al these years.

Moloch grinned then his grin faded as he looked over at Max again.

"She's here, some where, probably right..." Moloch started then stopped and then threw a red flame next to Max, Kiara's form became visible for just a second then went away again.

"I love you Kiara."  Max said.

"Shut up Johnson!"  Draco yelled then hit him.

"You stupid.."  Moloch started to say again but stopped when he saw Draco go flying out of the cell, the door slamming shut behind him.

Moloch grabbed Max and pulled him away from the last known position of Kiara and smiled.

"Touch me and he dies."  Moloch growled.

"Moloch, it's been entirely too long."  Kiara's voice entered the room.

"So, Draco was actually right, you are angry.  I bet I can make you even more angry then."

Max slumped over as Moloch set a hand on his chest.

"NO!"  Kiara's voice thundered in the cell, making the mortar crack and the ground shake.

Max opened his eyes just as her form appeared.  She became just as solid as the rest in the room, only difference, she was surrounded by a blackish haze. She didn't notice that Max was fine.  Max couldn't move or even speak to tell her he was.

Moloch actually backed away a few steps as Kiara took a step towards him, the room went cold and the candle flame turned black, the only light coming in to cell now was the flaring bolt, thrown at Kiara from Moloch.

Kiara only laughed at this.  It was that same laugh Max had heard in the fortress, right before she killed her father.  This wasn't the Kiara he fell in love with, this was the Kiara that was meant to be and Max knew it.  This was what Evan had told him about, the thing he had to keep secret for all this time.
